This thread's not about Marbury. It's about the fifteen man Knicks roster coached improperly last year.

I thought it was about the new Knicks "formula". Hard to talk about formulas without talking about formula killers.
If you want to be picky, then my initial post was about the fifteen man roster. Then you (stunningly!) focused nonstop on no one but Marbury.

Is it okay with you if I don't re-read and dissect our conversation? I've been attempting to speak to the point of this thread, which you might recall begins with these words:

By HOWARD BECK
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 14 — Stephon Marbury’s assist totals seem destined to take a major dip this season, but if they do, the Knicks will not complain.

The algebra is changing for the Knicks under Coach Isiah Thomas. Marbury’s playmaking, a subject of consternation for some former coaches and teammates, will apparently not be an issue. In fact, under Thomas, it is almost necessary for Marbury’s assists to decline.

The offense Thomas is running calls for a number of players to handle the ball and initiate the offense. The team as a whole is expected to generate a lot of assists, but with the ball moving around a lot, no one player is likely to collect a majority of them. So it was not particularly bothersome to Thomas that Marbury had no assists in Friday’s preseason opener, or only one Saturday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now remind me, what are you speaking to?

My argument is it's comical that articles like this are coming out after the second pre-season game. It would be just as comical (although very cautious) if the Knicks were 0-2 and there were articles stating the team was doomed. If you look at the pre-season standings to date most of the non-playoff teams from last yr are in the Top 8 of each conference respectively. They are trying to win games that's obvious, while the other teams are just going through the motions or aren't as healthy. I've never seen so many random DNP's in my life.

I think it is important to remember that Isiah's system with the Knicks is not the system he had when he coached the Pacers. Similar to when Pat Riley came from the ShowTime Lakers, Isiah has adjusted to his personnel. If it continues to work during the regular season he will have accomplished what many considered the impossible. Despite his new offense I still think Francis and J. Rose will be traded.

You are right about Riley, but I believe you are wrong about Isiah. He called it his "quick" offense in Indy, where he developed it, as he calls it that here.

Whether he implements it differently to our personnel remains to be seen, but as he's discussed it so far it is largely the same.

Isiah says it's the same system. Perhaps he's refined it over the years. His concepts are very interesting and much more creative than anything we saw from our previous coaches. All I know is that the way he's using these players may just work for this team.

As far as what someone else said about us not playing like PHX, well we really aren't playing like them. Not exactly. It's the approach to the game that we're imitating. Open up the floor and let your players great natural skills shine thru. We're not hamstrung by being able to shoot the lights out every night, cuz this isn't a jumpshooting offense. PHX is VERY dependent on their good shooters. We play with a more powerful attack of the basket which is a very high % style. It's also hard to stop and here's why. You can't stop players from moving when they don't have the ball and with us having so many VERY quick guards and Forwards all we have to do is move and make those quick short passes and teams aren't gonna be able to react fast enough to stop it. You know what it's like... The west coast offense in football.

if presented correctly, knicks could emulate any offense or defense out there. but before we get way ahead of ourselves about what system works players have to buy into what the coach is selling. in a nutshell, coaches are good salesmen. and if zeke is the salesman i think he is, our rookies will not be as confused as the rookies from last season were.....lets watch

If you look at frye, curry and crawford and to some extent marbury, we are currently built for the playoffs style of basketball.

Toss in JJ2 at the 3 and you have pick and roll, wing defense, a strong post up game and shot blocking.

That's playoff basketball. That wins championships.
