If you want to bring race into this mess than you better also not be afraid to talk about the black culture in NO and the violence that is happening right now. Please don't forget to talk about the "Dirty South". And don't tell me violence in the black community is not an issue.

Violence in NO and the "Black Community" is immaterial to this situation.

It sounds like you don't realize that in ANY city if this happened and thousands of people are trapped and dying, there wll be violence riots, etc. Check out the great blackout in NYC '78. I lived in a VERY nice neighborhood and there was looting on my corner and a bullet came through my window and flew over my mother's head.

Now, last I checked those tax paying Americans down there in NO are not going to another country. Help me out here now. They're called refugees why?

Because they cannot go back to their homes. You can be a refugee from disaster, political situations etc. "Countries" don't really have anything to do with it.

The only point I want to make at this point is: before you blame the government for all that has gone wrong in NO, you must also look to the people who have been affected and how they are behaving in the midst of this crisis. Are they making the situation better, worse? The government should help the victims as much as humanly possible but to blame the government for the actions of all the individuals involved shows a lack of value for individual responsibility.

This is a load of BS Knight. Why do we have to look at how people are 'acting' first? Why not DO SOMETHING FIRST? Please tell me. Is this a situation where they don't get help because they don't deserve it? They'll get it when they learn how to act?

The governement did not help with prior evactuation and they have been sitting on their hands since then. The media has tried to make LOOTING the big issue, while forgetting that people have no food or water, how are they going to get it? I know, they should learn how to act first.
No, I agree that from what I can tell the government screwed this up, but I'm also saying the situation was made exponentially worse by the violent actions of some of the people down there.

Wrong again. The nuttiness in NO is to be expected anywhere when thousands of people are left to die.

No, I agree that from what I can tell the government screwed this up, but I'm also saying the situation was made exponentially worse by the violent actions of some of the people down there.

Wrong again again. Rioting and pillaging may make things worse, but exponentially? You are going out of your way to demonize the victims. The government screwed this up. Bush runs our government (Supposedly.). he declared NO area a disaster area BEFORE Katrina hit. How come he did not get evacuation efforts rolling too? What has he done? The point is that twice now we and Bush have been faced with enormous disaster situations and both times Bush has been caught unprepared. Does this let everyone else off the hook? No. But he should be the irst one on the hook.
Thanks Too Short. And the people especially need help because of the way other people are acting!

Geez, I guess if they knew how to act everything would be all right.

Junkmein: I can see that you are upset about this but I do think you went to far with the name calling.

Knight: Pease tell me: a) Why you voted for Goerge Bush. Was it because he is so good at "Protecting the Nation"? And please tell me what behavior has to do with rescue efforts.
