I wonder what Mariano's record is for blown saves in a season is. He's got to be getting close.
Bet Joe's still begging Mo to stay, especially since it's now documented in stone that Joba's obviously not the answer.

Betances might be the guy. Had a real good year in the minors (finally) transitioning from starter to short man. Robertson will probably become the closer though -- just concerned with the wavering velocity throughout a season he always shows. He starts off around 90 in spring training then gets to a level in early summer where he's throwing 94-95, then regresses back down to 90-92. Happens EVERY YEAR with him so far. Can't sustain velocity for the long haul. It's a minor issue I suppose -- his fastball is still a plus pitch -- he cuts it and he has a long stride to the plate where the ball supposedly gets on the batter quicker than normal. His hook is outstanding as well. Betances to D-Rob might be the 8th/9th inning formula next year.

The bullpen seems to masquerade as a gas can every time Pettite pitches a good 6 innings.

I hope Briggs doesn't find out about last night's loss!

Final 20 games:

2.5 behind TB
.5 behind both O's and Indians.

Definitely doable. Lucked out with the Rays hitting a 3 game slump the same time we did.

Jeter's out. I doubt he was ever healthy.
I'll be pissed if Girardi puts Ichiro or some other unproductive hitter 2nd

Mariano blows #7. "Unbelieivable"

Then Ichiro bails him out. Maybe batting him second gets him jumpstarted again?

Mariano has converted only 6 of his last 11 save opportunities

Is this Tillman guy related to the Special Forces guy?
It seems like he'd go down 2-0 on everyone but still end up striking out the side. I hate him. Can we sign him for next year?

A-Rod #2. Guess we move Overbay to cleanup? Things are getting truly desperate.

Would have loved to see what a truly enraged Gerardi would have done to Buck. It would have been pretty ugly, and really really fast.
Then again, maybe I wouldn't have wanted to see it.

Overbay was 7th. Soriano was cleanup.
Even if the team makes the 2nd wild card, we don't really have an ace to put up against the other team's.

Soriano is going to get Cashman Executive of the Century if we get the wildcard.

It's weird pulling for the Red Sox. For any reason.

Why was Ryan out in the top of the 9th? If you strikeout but the catcher doesn't catch the ball, you can run it out to first base, right?

Soriano and A rod have been God sends for the Yankees who have had 9 lives this season. Cant give Cashman credit there--it was the owner who made that call. Also nobody wanted A rod--not 1 fan management other than the owner. Steinbrenner helped the Yankees this year. Give A rod some credit--hes played very well hen he couldve been terrible in many aspects. It shows that his stupid personal mistakes with Steroids shouldve been avoided--the guy is a great baseball player who did not need the drugs. Hes going to get some sympathy now and people rooting for him to beat his case when NOT 1 person wouldve otherwise.

The owner made the call on Soriano? didn't know that.

Everybody loves anybody who's batting 2nd, hitting .300 and getting doubles in the gap and slamming game-tying homers. Let him choke in the playoffs, or down the stretch, and everybody will be back to talking up his banishment and how the Yankees should be able to void his contract and invest it in some other starphucques.

Cmon, bonnie, pay attention to the radio. Susan Waldman informed us that the ball hit his shoe, so he's out.

I know I've probably posted this before, but I'm growing weary of Mo channeling his inner John Wetteland.

2 outs, 1 and 2, and he gives up a double, a single and a run.
And then strikes out Muchacho swinging on three straight pitches.

Still, he's not ever going to be replaceable.

I didn't realize that if it hit you when you swung, that meant you were automatically out.

It's not only the that A-Rod's hitting very well but also the 3rd basemen before him were terrible .180 hitters. He's made a gigantic difference. Soriano has obviously helped but I wish he could be more consistent. Granderson has helped too. It will be very interesting to see what happens to Cano and Granderson in the off-season.
I disagree with the "not 1 person would have otherwise." Until MLB shows me the evidence, I won't convict A-Rod. Even then, if he used steroids he should either get the same 50 game suspension or the 65 game suspension Braun got if they show he did something worse than just use (like obstruction). This is just Selig looking for a scapegoat.

You are not out if you are in the batters box or in foul territory.
