Eli is fine. He will be an NY Giant for a very long time. He's never gonna put up the huge stats, but he'll win more big games than any of his contemporaries.

Kerry Collins threw a nice tight spiral, but Eli's the one w/the SB ring on his finger.

Eli won that SuperBowl with wins on the road, not in the Meadowlands.

he beat Brett Favre at Lambeau Field in freezing subzero conditions in a NFC championship game... he's passed the biggest possible test & came through for us... the Giants will not be looking to trade this guy, trust... he's gonna be a Giant for a long, long time.

Goodbye Burress.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Ak.GDEfxXptJUrqSTIBU4II5nYcB?slug=ap-giants-burress&prov=ap&type=lgns
The New York Giants released Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress (PLEK’-sih-koh BUR’-ihs) on Friday, a little more than four months after the talented but troubled wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh in a New York City nightclub.

Burress’ four-year tenure with the Giants was highlighted by a game-winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl 14 months ago but it was also dogged by fines and suspensions.

Burress’ status has been uncertain since he shot himself on Nov. 29. He faces a felony weapons charge that could put him in prison for at least 3 1/2 years if convicted.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

it's a damn shame it had to come to this... like him or not we're not gonna be able to replace that guy in this offense.

i really hope we draft Kenny Britt now.

Not surprising. This probably means he's going to be doing some jail time.

If the Browns end up in a position to take Michael Crabtree, I think you can very much expect the Giants to be acquiring Braylon Edwards.

Question for the masses- considering age and possible cost, who would you rather look to trade for: Tony Gonzalez or Bralyon Edwards?

I think you see if you can get Gonzalez for one of the extra 2's, draft Britt or Nicks and hope Manningham steps up and Hixon continues to make some strides. Gonzo would be a great target to have at least for a year or 2 and wouldn't pose as much risk. And hopefuly by yr.2-3 Britt or Nicks develops along with Mario and/or Hixon.

i like the trade for Gonzo & draft Britt plan much better than trading Kiwanuka or picks for Edwards.

Kiwanuka will not be traded for Edwards. You're looking at a no.1 and maybe either one of the no.2's or a no.3 to get Edwards- and then you have to give him 7-8 mil per year. He is a long term no.1 WR talent for sure, but I think ultimately Tony Gonzalez is less risky and still puts us in the Super Bowl driver seat for this year. You go 2 TE most of the time, hammer it home with the running game as per usual- and when you need the passing game Tony Gonzalez is basically the most reliable safety valve in the NFL. He put up almost 100 catches, 1000 yards and 10 tds with no QB last year.

if we're trading to bring in an established veteran WR, i want Boldin.

Plaxico Burress' desire to leave the New York Giants is why they released him
by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger
Friday April 03, 2009, 4:07 PM

For months, the Giants had insisted they would welcome Plaxico Burress back if his legal situation worked out in his favor. So why today, with his legal issues still up in the air, did they pull the rug out from under him by releasing him?

The answer, according to someone familiar with the Giants' thinking, is Burress pushed back in his requests for a trade and in his lack of flexibility in a recent contract squabble.

The person familiar with the team's thinking, who requested anonymity because the Giants didn't give a reason for their cutting Burress in their press release, said the wide receiver's trade request through his agent Drew Rosenhaus was the most public sign of his desire not to play for the team anymore. The Giants were livid when Rosenhaus sent the e-mail to the entire league because the team had not granted permission for Burress or Rosenhaus to seek a trade.

Rosenhaus, who did not violate any NFLPA rules by sending that e-mail, could not be immediately reached for comment today.

Burress' attorney, Ben Brafman, said he hasn't spoken with his client since news of his release came down. But Brafman had something of his own to add.

"I think the Giants made a huge mistake, speaking as both his lawyer and a Giants fan," Brafman wrote via e-mail.

In recent weeks, the Giants tried to settle their grievance with Burress over the $1 million payment of his signing bonus they withheld last year. The person said each time the team believed they were close to an agreement, Burress refused to budge, saying he didn't owe the team anything.

Burress has yet to speak publicly on his situation, so it's unclear why he's so upset with the team, though their suspending him, placing him on the non-football injury list and withholding the bonus check likely didn't make him happy.

Of course, this comes after Burress recently received medical treatment on his back from the Giants' staff. So what appeared to be a sign of cooperation between a player who felt jilted and a team that was hoping for a change in attitude was merely an isolated case of peace in an otherwise contentious relationship of late.

From Si's truth & rumors
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/97992-report-plaxico-curses-out-cop

At least this time Plaxico Burress was only shooting from the lip. The pistol-packing punk fired a string of profanities at a deputy sheriff two weeks ago after he was stopped for erratic driving in Florida, police said. "-- - - you! You're going to be in a lot of trouble. I know the sheriff personally," the receiver raged at Broward County Deputy Sheriff Donald Harris during the March 18 traffic stop, police said. The embattled gridder -- who was released by the Giants on Friday and faces 3?? years in prison on a gun-possession charge after shooting himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub on Nov. 29 -- followed every question and command with a "-- - - you," according to the citation. It appears Burress' driving is as wild as his shooting; the ticket was his fifth driving infraction in Florida in the past month alone. In the March 18 incident near Fort Lauderdale, Burress, 31, was speeding south on I-95 in his black 2008 Toyota Sequoia at 10:30 a.m. when he crossed several lanes of traffic, cutting off vehicles to get on I-595's westbound ramp, police said. Harris pulled over the car because Burress was driving like "he was going to kill somebody," according to police. When Officer Harris approached, he couldn't see inside the tinted windows of Burress' SUV, so he opened a door and found the ex-Giant talking on his cellphone. "-- - - you! You can't open my -- - -ing door!" Burress barked, police said. That's when Burress issued his boastful threat about knowing Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

now to address our WR hole.

An sneaky move would be to sign Malcom Floyd. He's an RFA, but would only take a 2nd round pick to make it happen and we have an extra one from the Shockey trade.

Not too many young stud receivers out there any better than him.

John Clayton actually answered this one back to me. The Chargers would be able to match whatever the Giants offer, so it probably won't happen.

He was very impressive the season before last. Played like the best reciever in the league. Like Burress he has all the talent in the world- but is he going to do something with it? I think its a risky move, but one that could pay off immensely.

I think its certain he's going to be traded and I think I'd place it at an 75-80% chance he's coming here. Question is when and for what.

Anquan Boldin isn't happening...he's probably gonna end up in Miami. We'll get Edwards and we'll probably get them down to a 2 and a 5...

still wouldn't do it for a 2 & a 5... i say keep the picks, draft Britt & draft a LBer like Laurinaitis out of Ohio State who can take over for Pierce in a year.

I think Laurinatis is gonna be a bust.

If Shockey is worth a 2 and a 5, Braylon Edwards is definitely worth a 2 and a 5. Keep in mind the Giants will definitely be cutting draft picks this year b/c they don't have enough roster space to keep all their picks. They need to make some sort of move to get value out of all their picks.
