Even if the Steinbrenners can get out of A-Rod's contract, the cheap bastards will probably just pocket the cash. They just made close to a billion dollars on a sale of the YES Network but they won't spend a couple mil in luxury tax to improve the team right now!?

"Cheap"?

Yankeeds cheap? Its not like they didn't have any debts to pay right?

Team needs an overhaul and you got into tax when the potential sniffs a Worlds series run.

Otherwise bank the money on prospects.

First Pitch: Where are the Yankees?
NEW YORK -- Robinson Cano said it best, the lack of Yankees at the All-Star festivities is "weird."

As Cano pointed out, there is no Derek Jeter, no Alex Rodriguez and no CC Sabathia. There are five Orioles in Queens (Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones, Manny Machado and Chris Tillman). But just two Yankees (Mariano Rivera and Cano).

Bonn, but how do you really feel about Hank and Hal?

Cheap? Your Boy George was out of the picture for:
Arod's contract
CC's contract
AJ's contract
Derek's contract

Hardly examples of insipient frugality.

Yeah, they haven't become cheap until the luxury tax issue came up

Why didn't Mariano close the game? I think that would have been more appropriate

Oh, just found this.

But therein lies the problem: there’s no guarantee Rivera will be able to close out the game. The National League team could have a late lead, meaning Rivera might have to come in in the eighth to assure an appearance.

Maybe Leyland was concerned about the remote possibility that they would give up 4+ runs in the 8th inning and Mariano wouldn't get a chance to pitch in the 9th?!

Jeter returns to the DL.

It should have been but apparently wasn't obvious already that we can't rely on our injured old players to come back and contribute. By MLB standards they are elderly. I can't believe we've spent the whole season so far with 6+ respectable starters but only 1 or 2 respectable hitters.

So what's the over/under on how long Arod goes on unemployment?
At least he's not getting paid for being banned. Wonder if it affects his endorsement contracts as well. Does he even endorse anything besides himself?

Time to rebuild. The core 4 are (almost) no more.

This is a really interesting time to be a Yankee fan and I think we need to consider doing something that we've never really done in all my years of fandom - start over. Our minor league sucks (can you say Betances anyone) and the freakin Mets are beginning to pull together a nucleas for years to come. We need to do the same and, having loved the dominance of the late 90's and 2000's, I think it is only right that we invest in our future for 2-3 years. I am a HUGE Cano fan, but seeing him hit in this lineup without any protection whatsoever is painful and is not doing him any favors. Amazing he is hitting 300 with the BS he has to swing at. I say deal him for a huge load, somehow make AROD never play again, and unfortuntaely, focus the rest of this year on celebrating the greatest closer to ever play the game. Cannot believe I"m saying this, but we really need to hit the reset button. Even fully loaded, this team is one stop away from the geriatric ward.

Yeah, there was talk of the Yankees being sellers at this deadline. They could deal Kuroda to a contender.

I would auction off the starters. The Yankees aren't making the postseason this year and even if they somehow pull that miracle off, they aren't winning a chip. Selling off Kuroda and Hughes would be a good way to jump start everything

I'd add CC but he probably doesn't have much value now.
I'd ask Andy if he wanted to be traded to a contender or to stay

I would say as much as I want the Yankees to rebuild, they won't. New York teams do not rebuild in general. They always diminish their young guys for old has beens. The last time we use what we have in our farm system was back in the days of Pettite,Bernie Williams, Jeter, Mo, and Posada. Our farm system is very weak currently

Rumors of trading for Soriano. I think he's overrated but still better than anything we have. If he comes very cheap, I'd support it but I hope the team has bigger plans before the trade deadline too.

Boston's dump last year sounded crazy but look at where they are now!

Does the team trade Cano for prospects?

can pineda come back next year and be good?

Can yanks give Arod 70 million and go away?

The Soriano trade is complete. The Yankees gave up a low tiered prospect and will pay him $1.8 mil this year and $5 mil next year. It's a reasonable trade but I hope the Yankees have much bigger plans before the trade deadline expires. This alone won't push them past the top teams in the league!

It's good that they got this trade done 5 days before the deadline. I'm hoping that means that they viewed it as an upgrade but they wanted to get it out of the way so they could spend the next 5 days focusing on bigger deals.

Quite the retro move. Can Sterling hitchcock still pitch? Iciro, Soriano, Rivera, Pettit...........old.

Yanks need to keep it together just to remain respectable. They are doing a great job considering the nightmare of injuries. Can't beat mother nature especially when they check for PED's now.
