But therein lies the problem: there’s no guarantee Rivera will be able to close out the game. The National League team could have a late lead, meaning Rivera might have to come in in the eighth to assure an appearance. http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2013/07/15/sports/doc51e4a2403df8a981531825.txt Maybe Leyland was concerned about the remote possibility that they would give up 4+ runs in the 8th inning and Mariano wouldn't get a chance to pitch in the 9th?! |

Jeter returns to the DL. It should have been but apparently wasn't obvious already that we can't rely on our injured old players to come back and contribute. By MLB standards they are elderly. I can't believe we've spent the whole season so far with 6+ respectable starters but only 1 or 2 respectable hitters. |
