Oh man, the guy is built like Marcus Camby! With a guy as huge and injury prone as he is, I can't help wondering if he did many years of steroids. Obviously the size and injuries could just be a coincidence though.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit, who isn't or hasn't used steroids in the past in baseball?

Ken Griffey Junior???

Anyway, this isn't funny. He could have died and it is a real shame. Cashman was really broken up about this. People are fond of this kid. I wish him a speedy recovery. Adversity can help shape a man to be his best!

That would have made a hell of an epitaph: Here lies Joba; died in the bouncy ball room during son's playtime

This just sucks.

And what's with Pineda not even being mentioned as a starter???? Did I hear that right???

God, we suck already.

Tex is once again mired in his normal spring septic waste, our starters can't get out of their own way, and Jete's being rested two games into the season. And Mariano's another year older.

Despite the homer, it's got to be some sort of Phillies curse from Ibanez!

Then again, the last time we opened the season like this:

1998 AL East Champions
1998 AL Champions
1998 World Series Champions
The 1998 Yankees won a total of 125 games against 50 losses, an MLB record. They are widely considered to be one of the greatest teams in baseball history. The 125 games (regular season and playoffs combined) was the most by a championship team, surpassing the previous record of 116, set by their cross-town rivals, New York Mets in 1986.

The Met's thing, given their opposite start this spring, could be the makings of some incredible irony.

It seems the Yankees eternally start slow every April.

I miss the late 90s - when the Yankees used their financial advantage to put together teams that were simply miles ahead of the next best team and almost a guarantee to win the WS. I don't know what's changed since then.

I love the Orioles. Always there for us to stop a losing streak.

Petite pitching Single A ball. Not terribly encouraging.

Heal quickly, Pineda!

First win of the year! Let's pop bottles! Now hopefully shipping out AJ wasn't a reverse curse for us.

I don't know whether to be happy or embarrassed that the old ex-Phillie is saving our bacon consistently.

Rauuuuuullll be seein ya! Raul! So cool!

John Sterling is the greatest homer in the history of homers.

Possibly the greatest come from behind, beat down from out of nowhere win in the history of the franchise against the Dred Sux Notion, and no posts!

Yankee fandom is at a low ebb....must be all the age on the team...

Maybe we get to see Petitte come back in rare form, and Pineda becomes the push to CC for Ace status... It is a happy thought, dream...

This is really a bad situation, but let's see if we can rise to the occasion. AL East is one tough division this year. We are lucky to have both Robertson and Soriano.

Is there some league sanction that's making our games all have to end 6-2?

Petitte looked good except for those two mistakes that gave up 4 runs. Beats watching Garcia self-implode in 3 innings.

A-bombs! from A-Rod! Yeah, against KC, so nothing big, but it's still nice to see his bat wake up finally.
Would love to see him go on a tear and hit over 40 home runs this season, just to shut Mike Fatincessant up.

6 and 3 on the road! and we apparently have Verlander's number!
El Capitain!!! with the lead off, first pitch, hope-you-enjoy-your-lousy-career-in-Detroit-Justin homer!
Hughes --> first complete game of his life!

I could guess all the baseball attention is on the Schmets finally pitching a no-hitter...but dayum. We beat verlander! Again!

The Yankees are in an OK position actually as long as they make the playoffs. We have a very good offense and for four of the first six games of a playoff series, CC and Pettitte will be starting. One more big bat would certainly help.

Imagine what happens when this lineup clicks, spots 1 - 9. I don't think we need another bat. I think we need a true, bonafide, 3-4 starter. I don't rely on Phil or Kuroda, but hoping that both prove me wrong. Nova looked great last night. I'm lovin it!
