Was it just me or did you guys also think the home plate umpire was being ridiculously more generous for Verlander than for CC?

I agree that we did not get the calls last night but you have to agree that Verlander was the better pitcher. Here's praying to god that AJ shows some magic tonight and that A-Rod comes alive!!!

I guess. I thought CC looked *outstanding* in the beginning - he was hitting the corners perfectly and normally would have been doing great. But he was getting none of the calls and then had to come closer and closer to the middle of the plate. Verlander was getting almost everything on the border or even off the plate.

no... I think he's back. Everyone thought the BoSox would win the division and a healthy contingent thought they'd be third best in the division. They won that and there was national press about him maybe getting minor consideration for manager of the year. I thought he did a great job... I think he's done a terrible job this postseason, specifically game two and putting the B relievers in. The ninth may have played out differently if the gap wasn't so vast

You think Detroit goes Verlander with 3 days rest?

Yanks really breaking it open in Game 4. ARod with 2 hits in the 8th. Nice to come home with momentum, and I'm feeling good about giving the ball to Nova.

Well here's one post someone made after the CC-Verlander matchup:

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but there were definitely two strike zones on the field last night. I was counting the number of outside the box strikes (+) and the number of inside/on the box balls (-) for each pitcher and Verlander was about a +10 for balls called strikes vs strikes called balls. CC was -15. Verlander's strike zone was much more liberal, expecially on the outside (more than 6 inches to the outside) to lefty batters, while CC could not buy a stike on the outside corner to right handed hitters.

I just want to know who it was on this site that was calling out Grandy for his defensive liability. Guy saved the game twice last night. I think Robbie's laziness was also mentioned by said poster. That guy is so smooth playing second that he looks like he ain't trying. My wife, who is no baseball affecianado, calls him the smooth operator when she sees him play second. I think she may have a crush on him and I'm gonna have to just deal with it cause I have a man crush on him LOL! Go Yanks, **** Detroit.

I've been here much longer than you have supporting the Yankees. Maybe if you're here in six years you can credibly challenge long-time Yankees' fans support of their team.

So...your tenure of membership on the illustrious UK Yankee thread is directly correlated to your level of fandom and credibility? That's a strong point...about as strong as your points on how the team has been managed down the stretch, how we should have played the Red Sox, and granderson as a defensive liability.

I also pointed out articles that showed, statistically, that Robbie was not that great a fielder at times, that he seemed to lag on some plays and made some errors that were possibly just attributed to mental mistakes. They've also mentioned it on, of all places, the Yankee homer Sterling/Waldman radio broadcasts. Which I've suffered through for years.

Honestly, what do you think his manager and his teammate are going to say publicly? That he sucks? Gerardi has also spoken up for AJ throughout this season, how much cred do you think that carries?

That all said, I still know we're nowhere without Cano.

So, do you guys really think that Robbie and Grandy are defensively challenged? Robbie is an amazing second baseman and Grandy is a well above average outfielder (he's not Adruw Jones in his prime) but he's very, very good.

Cano makes some amazing plays. He also makes some stupid plays, ocassionally.
Tex is an amazing defensive player. Cano is not in that league in the field.
I have no opinion on Grandy; all I know is he is a definite upgrade from having Gardner roaming CF.

I want to see Nova strike out 20 tonight and win 15-0! 8-0 (save some offense for Texas)

Are we really arguing about Cano's defense right now? He's a gold glover, and deservedly so. Granderson should absolutely be in the running for this year's gold glove as well. I'll go to battle with those two in the field any day.

But anyways, here's to guys stepping up in a huge game tonight. I feel good giving the ball to Nova. Let's hope the offense can channel some of that energy from Tuesday night. Go Yanks!

How is ARod still the cleanup hitter? Striking out w/one out and bases loaded in an elimination game and then again to end the same game. The guy just isn't clutch when it matters.
