I think the FO up to this point have done a marvelous job holding their ground not to cave in to Danny's demands. I think the Knicks have now reached the Melo trade territory or even beyod that if they want this trade to happen.

I can only see 3 scenarios:

1. They make a trade with RJ and Atleast 3 unprotected 1st.(atleast now RJ is signed for 4 more years and its not a rookie max, might still be appealing to Danny)

2. Knicks keep RJ but gut the 2nd unit by sending out Obi, IQ, Grimes, Fournier and 2 unprotected 1st.

The 3rd option which now i would prefer is the knicks to just simply walk away and see how this team is with Jalen.

Lineup still has eFG problems, but not sure we are solving that without Barrett and Randle doing something different.

Honestly the raptors team with too many 6’8 combo forwards. Depending on if their position less basketball fails a package of Derrick Rose, Fournier and some of the protected picks we got for OG and Thaddeus young might be enough. Then again I don’t know if the Raptors would want to trade OG in the division or if he is even near the top of forwards they would want to move. They have so many… plus Masai is a screwed GM. He would probably charge the Knicks an arm and a leg.

My alternative is Fred Katz mentioned Kyle Kuzma might be a interesting trade target. He isn’t the defender OG is but he isn’t a liability like Fournier. Plus Kuzma is a better 3 pt shooter. The Wizards might not want to pay him to stay mediocre. It makes more sense to see what they have in Rui, Kispert, and Davi to keep cost low and then let KP expire and try to get Beal a star level running mate in 2024.

As for the Knicks Kuzma outside shooting and size could let him play as a starter and maybe help move RJ away from having to share to touches and the left side of the court with Brunson and Randle.

Could be a really interesting playoff team.

I really hope the Knicks value 3ptbshootingbas much as last couple of years and remember what we were like three years ago. There seemed to be an effort to bring 3pt shooters that could defend. Bullock, Burks were good additions. Both gone. Grimes is that. EF can shoot but needs to be more diligent with commiting to defense. Feel it will be a mistake to get rid of both.

I have a few more issues with that lineup. The reason OG reportedly wants of Toronto is that he wants a bigger offensive role. If EF, a more complete offensive player, relegated to a less role, what do you think happens to OG? How happy will he be to go from a spinning Siakam to a Beyblade Randle. And to be honest, I'm not sure OG's ball skills are good enough to warrant and increased offensive role. Also, that trade package is too much. No more than two pick. No prospects should be given in any deal.

You can find bench guys even during the season like we did with JR a few years back

You lost me with RJ off the bench. I doubt you give a bag worth 100mil, who is true 22, trending up, were Grimes has not come close to showing that kind of upside. Thats not a knock on Grimes BTW. After being sick, then Covid RJ shot over 35% from 3 and his efficiency was not awful. It was not great. He gets rejected at the rim a big. But he gets to the line too! That athletic piece in him posted is good reading. outlines his weakness's and strenghts. Not tilted one way or the other. Writer discusses him being a polarizing player with some not convinced. Its why he is not getting max. On the other hand he is in elite company for his point totals at his age.
Kuzma was not known as a good defender although I expect he has improved.
My guess is for now:

Brunson
EF
RJ
Randle
Mitch

I'd be suprised if both EF and Randle even if DM is moved here.

Rose
Grimes
Obi
Cam
iHart

Where does IQ fit? 3rd string? Wait for Drose to sit? I don't see that and IQ agent should demand a trade if so. I'd say we can trade for picks but we have more than enough. We need a consolidate trade which DM does fit other than his standing height. But I get not everyone wants DM but if Grimes is the price well do you really not do that? Leon made a statement by signing RJ. It sends a message to agents he is a man of his word. By that he likely told RJ he was possibly being moved but if not by a certain date they'd take care of him. They did. Its a business and RJ by the sounds of it would have been moved to another team and if so likely signed. Read this pissed Leon off. Not sure why though. Thing is as a former agent he player friendly. While Leon is at this just 2.5 seasons he seems to not dick around and be cut throat. It matters, but so does winning!!!! Ultimately that's how you get measured.

We have a glut. If no DM trade I don't see us much more than .500 team and if so rather see IQ get minutes over Rose. Would not lose sleep if Randle was traded either but I am highly intrigued with how he performs this upcoming season.

IN return Lakers retool with role players? I can see EF moving there, and DRose. Can't see Randle as a Laker. Front line of Lebron, AD and Randle is kind of scary size wise and each has 3 way skills.

Great point. This is about 2 vs. three protected and from what I have read that's were Leon balked. Danny wants three. We can give two and three protected. Then its about salary and serviceable yoot with upside and contracts. Utah still has conley, Bogo, and Gay whom I suppose they want to move. Lakers get solid role guys. Lakers by rumor might still want Cam Reddish.

Other than danny getting what he wants I can live with that. I suspect further down the line we continue to grow out players and cultivate picks.
Randle can be used as salary as base for future deals if need be. I expect him improved and at the very least play up to his contract. not the high bar of allstar/all nba. Be nice though!!
Rokas too as trade capital looms. I trust Leon is thinking beyond the moment.

I'd have to think something else comes back to knicks. Minor piece. say an "errant 2nd rounder" for good measure!

Cam the birthday boy has requested a trade off the team to get him more playing time. With the Laker rumored interest in Cam and the willingness to be part of the mitchell deal, can the FO grant Cam's birthday wish?

Relieved we didn't make the trade for DM. Great player but really not a great fit for our roster as currently constructed. Also believe someone out of IQ, Toppin, Reddish and Grimes will emerge as a legit starter... maybe even 2 out of those 4.

Hope we pivot now to relocating Randle and D. Rose (who I like but think he's best off going to a contender).
