Precious is offense caused by his offensive rebounds, out backs on missed shots, fast breaks, and grabbing defensive rebounds at a rate higher then Simms. He will help the offense without having to have a play called for him. Can't wait to have him back. He is a more active and effective Simms. His defense results in more points. If he ever develops a consistent 3 pt rate then he can be parked in a corner and the team can continue to go 5 out without having to take the dunkers spot.

I mostly agree with you, except that I see huge upside in Precious that would be a monster if we could unlock. That 20/16 game against Charlotte in pre-season was that guy. He is as athletic and aggressive as they come. A little more skill added and some consistency on that 3 ball and he’s a rock star.

My guess is he turned down the Deuce-type contract to bet on himself and the Knicks gave him a trade chip contract instead.

I am there with you on the unlocking of Precious. I think he has got it in him with the right role and focus, and the Knicks happen to be that perfect fit and opportunity.

What is "instant offense" to you?

TO me its a guy that comes in, starts shooting, you know: "Microwave"! A guy that can create his own shot. Thats not Precious is it? Precious handle? Precious three ball? Thats not our guy. Reason Thibs played him last year was his defense and rebounding. That what got him a nice one year pay day and why he is betting he can get a bigger deal. Not like a lot of teams came a calling. Recall he did not sign with us early. To be fair I seem to recall we had other business to get to first and perhaps he had a promise from us? Perhaps a longer term deal is in the cards?

Precious is missed, but he is no savior off the bench. Like Sims, Im not sure he is in our long range plans. Not like many of the savants here, I have been known to be wrong. Lets be real, he kicks ass, his price will go up and we might not be able to afford him or want to put money there. He sucks, he gone. He go sideways then he did not really evolve into what we hope. I gather some of you are hoping on "Potential" to kick in. Toronto gave him the ball plenty and he really did not get it done offensively there. Here he had to show the defensive chops or he was trade filler on the bench. His minutes came up when injuries to Mitch and Randle occurred as did OG's. He filled in very nice. Look at his minutes after the trade. He was not playing much.
Credit to him and the staff for "Next man up"! Good for him and for us. Instant offense? Not sure. Add all the "He from the Bronx" or "CAA client" don't make things into existence.

At 6-8 even with the wingspan he is not big enough to play the 5, and lacks the consistent range to open up the middle at the 4. We have seen Sims at the 4 in previous seasons and wonder if Thibs revisits that again. Huk seems to have the mobility of a 4 but does he have the midrange shot? Mitch inserted to what role when he comes back? Does he start sending Josh to the bench (Not worried about his minutes/finishing)? We saw Thibs do that last year. Fact is a Hart/deuce back court is very disruptive and could finish many games.

There are many looks when we get our dudes back. WE have a nice soft part of the schedule in December and should be telling.

Instant offense potential? That our dude Warren getting his **** together Westchester. My guess is Knicks want to see his knee issues before potentially giving him a role in the big show rotation. That seem like a logical thing given he is NBA proven talent. I don't have his medical charts but recall he has had some chronic issues. That is a dude that can come in and give you 15 minutes of offense or better if hot.

It would be great if Precious became a threat from the perimeter, but he does the things you articulated so well that it won’t bother me if he doesn’t. On offense, he’s an order of magnitude better than Sims. The FO should be praised for including Precious in the OG trade. The Raptors are probably wishing for a do over on that one lol.

Agree about consistency, but in the things Precious already has proven he does well. As I said upthread, improved 3pt shooting would be nice, but he already has such a big impact from 2, that I would consider it gravy if he became a 3pt threat. He starts draining 3s with some consistency, and we might lose him to another team like we lost iHart. That would be another body blow.

I agree with your theory about Precious’s contract.

What is the max ceiling we can pay Precious? Your making a statement I assume has some info behind so why not share what that figure is?
iHart was signed as a free agent. What is the ramifications of a player with a team that owns his Bird rights vs. what happened with IsiahHart?
Improved threes? What will his price be if he starts shooting like Larry Bird?

What was his role in Toronto and why did it diminish? They still had Siakim on the roster but as a free agent he was destined to flee so with that in mind, and moving OG with RJ coming back try to think how little they thought of Precious to not include him in any future plans.
This was about Barnes being the 4 of the future and RJ the three. Precious was pending free agent and they were not going to sign him. Incoming RJ and pending IQ salary bump was the future. Precious was a disappointment in Toronto Gustav. His offensive chops were not to what was expected.
Thibs gave him a role. One he might not be thrilled with or get him a mega bag but he succeeded here. Very unfortunate he got hurt as this is a big year for him to show more offense.

What a Deuce contract does is keep you in the league a few years and a promised role which is worth a lot. The player has to execute from there. Young players get windows to show themselves. With IQ gone knicks presented Deuce with some nice money but if he don't take it perhaps we don't give him the role? We invested in him and if flies the coup we lose. Toronto gave Precious time to develop and perhaps with Barnes showing up as a great rookie demonstrates how tenuous and difficult the business is. Precious was going to lose playing time so trading him was good for all.
I hope he can fulfill his potential.

Agree about consistency, but in the things Precious already has proven he does well. You consider Precious "instant offense"? Not really what comes to mind for me. Solid player, good defender, but instant offense? Capable yes, but not a "scorer".

Id split the difference and say that Precious is capable of instant offense, but not consistent enough to make me not see the need for more bench scoring. Tbe more bench scoring, the less Thibs needs to lean on his starters.

Didnt realize we had Bird rights, good point. It will be interesting to see what he's going to command.
