Horrible, horrible.

I just realized the extension is until 2027… They are a crap team.

I wonder if after the 2025 CBA is negotiated whether that will look like a deal. I’m kind of wondering the same thing about Brunson.

On the Duncan & Hollinger podcast they said the new TV deal could see 2.5X bump. They'll probably smooth out the cap increase so there won't be a sudden spike, but still... I don't see $25M being anything in the next two years.

Hmm I don’t get it. When you get a 2-way contract and you show you can play, are you stuck with these lowball contracts when you’re converted to an NBA deal?

He looks like a mid-late 1st rounder, perhaps akin to an Isaiah Stewart. If he were a free agent, he’d certainly be worth $2.5m/year if not 2 or 3 times that.

It’s like he walked right into the same bad (from a player perspective) deal like Mitchell Robinson did. Of course it’s a superb deal for the Knicks…

Danny Ainge said “a handful of teams” has already expressed interest in acquiring the No. 1 choice from the Celtics, and those suitors are probably just getting started

After the Gobert trade, a league source told The Tribune that more than a handful of teams called the Jazz to inquire about the availability of Mitchell — and the Jazz’s front office shut them all down. Those conversations, the Jazz felt, were league executives trying to pounce on a perceived opportunity to trade for Mitchell cheaply. – via Salt Lake Tribune

Odd how bizarre verbiage like "more than a handful" can help you pinpoint the source of a quote. I think Ainge is working on a KD deal but the Nets don't bite without Donovan Mitchell.

When you look at the salaries for late firsts, Jericho isn't too far off.

There is something to be admired and said when players like Dame and Beal decide to stay with their teams over chasing a cheap ring like KD. I know $$$ has a lot to do with it but still. Have to respect that in this era. As a fan rings to me are not everything. The journey and how you get that ring counts too! I respect a guy like Ewing, Mailman and Barkley 1000x more than KD tbh.

Never considered the “handful”. I don’t think I could fit one team on my hands.

Hmm, Sims basically signed a contract that makes him the rough equivalent of the 26th-ish overall pick of the 2022 draft. If you look at it that way, he did pretty well.

On the other hand, he already made ~$500k as 2-way player. So... assuming he plays through all 4 years, he'll make around $6.1m total.

A rookie 2022 26th pick who makes it through 3 years + gets a 4th year extension gets an 80.5% increase in salary over his 3rd year.
So $5.5m over the first 3 years of his deal, plus around $3.2m for the 4th season. About $8.7m.

I'm sort of curious if there's a Gilbert Arenas/Carlos Boozer/Brad Miller clause that keeps players under team control longer through these type of relatively cheap terms. (If I recall correctly, certainly for Arenas - because of lack of team control these guys hit the FA market super early and made big money much faster and easier than any lottery pick would have during their time)

Mitch did not have to sign that first deal. Could have done a two year deal. I thought it worked out great for him. He got the time to prove himself and get over an injury. sometimes have that length is a pseudo commitment from a team which is what players need. “A chance”. Once you out its hard to get back in.
Could he have done better by waiting it out? Maybe. He is third in the depth chart and I expect he’ll only be in the rotation if an injury occurs.

sims in SL is a man among boys. Very much age wise! Lol

Sims passing is opening my eyes so far during summer league. It’s clear he is working and 3 years to add elements to his game with the benefit of the big league club (and not a 2Way) is a fantastic opportunity. He can use the time. His athleticism will keep him around for a while but the skills he is adding Will earn him that next contract.

Feron Hunt has me thinking also. I think the Knicks could give him a similar contract to Sims with the remaining cap space before finalizing MR. Could be slightly off on the math. But he resembles the athletic 3&D I am hoping they add. The Knicks must get more athletic players on the court.

We did. From Reggie too. RJ is improved. Grimes added and improving. Brunson on offense, Mitch on the court vs. Thibs first year. (COTY SEASON) and then you add what is a more effective OBI and Cam. Yes we are more athletic. Hunt won’t crack the rotation and I doubt Simms doe either baring injury. But injuries do and will happen so he will play.

The summer league offense is worrisome because just like the regular season some zone and ball pressure is all it takes to **** the Knicks offense down.
