Just for giggles, would you consider this trade - would be a reason to wait until September 6. Basically combine the healthiest and most efficient of both teams (except we pray for time machine Randle). This one may break your computer.

Donovan Mitchell
Malik Beasley
Bojan Bogdanovic

for

Barrett
Fournier
Reddish
Rose
Grimes
McBride
2023 Dallas
2023 Wash
2023 Detroit
2025 Milwaukee
2024 Knicks Top 5 protected
2026 Knicks Top 5 protected

Sign Melo, Tony Snell and Dennis Schroder (Bi Annual). Hopefully some of these guys take the vet Min to be here.

Brunson/IQ/Schroder
Mitchell/Beasley/Snell
Bogdonavic/Melo
Randle/Toppin
Robinson/Hart/Sims

Giving up Derrick would hurt. Love that guy. Hope Utah turns down his next option and he can come back next year. But you would have a solid core, keep the 2023 pick to hopefully get the SF of the future. Need a couple more vets to fill in that roster.

There are other variations that work, but the premise is to strip Utah of high efficiency win now players in order to create the best 10 man rotation and still hold back enough picks to get the final piece of it becomes available.

We can take out Rose and Bogdonovic, but we would need to find a SF somewhere unless we can get comfortable with what’s available for the Room exception, Biannual Exception or Vet Minimum.

You know I gonna spin wit it

Curious. Why do you need Schroder?

My issues with that deal is trading RJ, and bringing back Melo. Id like to see RJ finish out his contract before the FO makes a decision. Said it before, if we were a clear contender and Melo would accept a bench role, sure. Dont see this making us an instant contender.

Confident it would be a matter of time before Melo starts pushing for his old job back as a starter. Dont believe his ego could handle a bench role on a low seeded team. Not in NY.

More is better. Doesn’t have to be Schroder. Just trying to pick up the best FAs available. With IQ coming into a contract year and the lack of depth at SF, I could see a deadline move to shore up SF. Better to do that if you have some depth there. In theory, Elf Payton could fill that role.

I hear you. I go back and forth on RJ. But to get back Mitchell, Beasley and Bogdonavic, you need to include some salary. I don’t want to give up Rose either.

The logic in my head is if it is worth trying to get Beasley also. Bogdonavic is older, can play both SF and PF but might not be worth it.

As much as I want RJ to succeed, I don’t think he is going to take the next step here if we bring in Mitchell. Just not enough balls to go around.

I’m not worried about Melo. My guess is that he wants to be here in NY this year. Just a hunch. I’m only guessing he gets 20 mins. In LAL, he played his role.

He has players Lakers “covet” as might we have one or two.
The deal gets bigger but its hard to say what “Danny wants” as he still has to roster a team and meet salary minimums. Westbrook to Utah is massive salary to just dump and leave at home. Westbrick will likely seek a buy out and find a team.

Laugh if you want (I am), but vets min at Nets would add to the delicious drama as Kyries back up or on Clippers.

EwingGlass, that deal is big on paper! Hard to digest but it might be close to what happens.

Let's examine the Colin Sexton situation in Cleveland. Sexton had a big year in 20/21 but little team success. After missing a season due to injury he has the option to sign long term with a team on the rise. The only caveat is he has to leave millions on the table. Unsurprisingly, he will probably play on a qualifying offer and be a UFA next season. Cleveland loses him for nothing and Sexton also has to produce on a prove it contract year. Everyone loses.

This scenario is already playing out with Obi behind Randle. How does bringing in DM not make this happen with RJ? The whole logic behind getting DM is to shave off RJ's shot least efficient FGAs and give them to DM. Does RJ see himself as a max guy? If the Knicks give RJ and Brunson sized deal, does he sign that? If RJ puts up similar numbers as last season in Utah, does that get him a bigger deal? I say- Yes. No. Yes.

I think for a fringe playoff team like the Knicks, those late round potential picks from Dal, Was and Detroit are a lot more valuable than for Utah. Those picks all have 3 years of protection as well. The value for Utah is unprotected picks.

LA gets

Rose
Conley
Gay

Utah gets
Westbrook
RJ
Knicks 2023,25 picks, 24 swap rights
LA 2027 Pick

Knicks get
Donovan Mitchell

The problem with the Knicks is that they never allow thier home grown players to grow in the system. We get rid of them. Now I don't know how good Obi really is or RJ because we don't create a system to let them grow. We get rid of them for a pie in the sky. Donavan Mitchell was a great player for Utah but that dosen't mean he will be the same for the Knicks and if he isn't. after 15 game you'll be shouting trade him he is a bust. We've been bad so long I would say keep the team as it is and give Obi much playing time and see what the rest can do then lets talk trade.

Is it possible that report of the knicks not wanting to part with Grimes is just a tactic to lower the price of the Jazz? Will the Jazz feel victorious if they end up getting Grimes but the knicks still keep obi and IQ.

Im hoping for a 3 team deal with the Jazz, Lakers and the knicks.

Lakers get: Bogdanovic, fournier and Cam
Jazz get: Russ, Grimes, maybe Deuce and 1st round picks.
Knicks get: Mitchell

What are the chances of the knicks trading Randle to the Hornets essentially opening the starting PF for obi.

If the knicks get Mitchell and get to keep Obi, then trade Randle to MJ's team.

Charlotte gets: Randle
Knicks get: Kelly O, plumlee and a pick.

They will keep Kelly coz they lost Fournier, grimes and Cam. Probably waive Plumlee.

Im hoping to have this line up come opening night.

Starters:
Mitch, obi, RJ, Mitchell, Brunson

Bench
Isaiah, Hunt/Sims, Obre, IQ, Drose.

Lakers lacked shooters and defense around LBJ and AD.
They probably have interest in guys that have high shooting percentages.
EF, Bogdonavic fit that.
Beverley fits defense. As does Malik and Conley.
Jazz seem to want RJ, today. And rumors are they want Obi,Grimes or IQ. Along with a lot of picks. Do not see Lakers or Jazz wanting Rose, Cam, Deuce.
Been saying all along it will take a third team to get Jazz extra picks the Knicks do not want to include. Trading EF to Lakers for a first makes sense.
Clear Lakers will not go into training camp with Westbrook. Jazz will probably ask for a young player, and first from them and then flip him and money to some other team for picks.

At the end, still see Knicks giving up four picks minimum, Obi, EF and fillers like Rose or Cam. As well as a couple of seconds to Lakers. See Jazz also asking for someone like Sims, who no one is talking about but should have interest from Jazz. Assuming he can be included. Just hoping we can keep RJ, IQ and Grimes. Which I feel the Knicks want to keep. RJ has extension coming but do not think it is a fair deal if everything mentioned above is included along with RJ.

Way too much to make solid projections as to whats on Danny's mind. For all we know he wants RJ so he can retrade him.
All rumors and thoughts are that Knicks undestand they are not at a chip level and need to keep looking down the road. How far and what path is anyones guess.
Most of what can surmise is take the emotions out of it which is what fans stink at. I'm a fan. I get it.

I don't care if Danny wins or thinks he has or what letter grade are applied here. Outcome is not known until a year or two down the road. All I know is I wants wins, meaningful games, and thus meaningful Rivalries.
I suspect and said this many times not all fans will be happy if a trade goes down. Windhorst did a trivia question and the last Knick guard to make three all star teams as a knick was Michael Ray Richardson!!!! Fucks sake thats a long time. H20 and Spree 2x! Last three was Sugar Ray, Clyde, and Richie Guerin! Earl was twice. Besides the highlight of winning a chip Earl first three years as a knick was not great statisticaly and he had knee issues. seemingly at age 30 he regained some magic and was healthy again. By then the core chip team was no longer.
This has little to do with Today of course but DM is a 3x allstar and perhaps we are discounting him because he is exiled in a town run by a religious cult.

I like that our FO is pushing back and making efforts to make a sensible deal and not falling over ourselves to give away the store.

Think what we had in 2020/21 was good with me. Competitive, in playoffs and some promise.
Think we can do that again without giving up the infrastructure.
Agree about Ainge flipping RJ. Mentioned that in a couple of threads.
Ainge wants picks. Wants to rebuild. Does not want a guy who is facing rook max.
Think what he will do is use picks to move up in drafts.
Something I think we could have done. Although, no complaints from me on how FO faired with picks the last couple of years.

My hope for the team is that we get guys that can SHOOT and DEFEND.
Liked Bullocks. Liked Burks for that. Like Grimes and IQ as well.
So many high level teams are realizing this matters in playoffs.
Like EF for his shooting but defense is an issue.
If you look at guys most are excited about here, many cannot shoot and defend.
Pulling up last year's shooting numbers for this roster was depressing.
Do not want to get rid of anyone but if you look at our shooting %'s , there are not many worth keeping. For me, you need an alpha that can create for himself and others, (Ie DM) and A LOT of guys that can defend and just plain shoot like a pro.

How confident is everyone that DM can lure another star to NY? My concern is the question stars might be asking themselves. Brunson/Mitchell would likely be a ball dominant backcourt. Where does that leave them?

0% chance if we give Ainge what he wants. Which is why it is important that we don't overpay for him. Whatever we have left from this trade will be all we have left to acquire our last big player.
