It gets even better -- looks like Javy's going down to the pen for at least the next series: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100516&content_id=10084632¬ebook_id=10084634&vkey=notebook_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Very odd considering we just got Chan Ho Park back and considering Javy just threw a pretty good game in Detroit. I mean if you're Joe, wouldn't you want him to build on that? Girardi can spin this however he wants but the bottom line is it comes off as a demotion -- it looks like they're scared shyt to start him against Boston and/or @ the Mets the following series. I think they probably feel that if he fails against either team (esp. against Boston at home although that Met game's practically a home game as well) it could break the guy. They'd never come out and say that of course but that's what this latest move tells me. I don't know man -- I'm beginning to feel like TMS now. I really don't want to feel this way and I really wanna see them give the guy a little room here to right the ship, but this is starting to look like a failed experiment [getting him for a second go-around]. I really want the team to look into acquiring Roy Oswalt - he's good and I think he may be available right now. He'd be perfect and I wouldn't even care about taking on his future salary (we're gonna need another pitcher or two when we let Javy go at the end of the year anyway. Plus, who knows how much longer Pettitte can go too - eventually he may need to be replaced as well..With Sabathia making $24M+ a year and AJ making $16.5M a season, Oswalt's $15M this year and $16M next year sounds about right for a pitcher of his caliber.)... Javy would have to be included in the deal -- I think he'd not only pitch pretty well for the Astros being back in the National League & in a much less stressful environment (getting a major-league caliber pitcher back in the deal esp. a guy with Javy's stuff might appeal to them and might be something they'll need to sell to their fanbase in order to complete the deal) but he'd be saving them a ton of money in the process. Javy & a couple of B-level chips (and by 'B-level' I don't mean scrubs, I mean a couple of good youngsters from our system - just not the top guys like Montero, etc..)....That's the deal we need to make right now. Get it done Cash...In the meantime, who's gonna make the next start or two in lieu of Javy? Nova? This move does nothing for Javy's confidence I can tell you that...Forget about him possibly failing in starts against the Red Sox and Mets, we could've just crushed the guy's confidence with this demotion to the bullpen... I couldn't believe Kubel's granny against Mo yesterday. What a shocker. When's the last time we saw something like that?? I think he's still got a lot left but it worries me. I think as long as he's healthy and his left side is feeling OK, we need to start getting Mo some regular work here so he can get in a groove. I feel like he's made only one other appearance recently besides yesterday. Besides that, I feel like the man hasn't pitched at all...I can understand Joe not wanting to push him (his days of challenging for the Rolaids Relief award are probably over) but we gotta get him rolling.. I think the offense is OK. I like Jorgie as the primary DH for now with Cervy behind the plate. For the time being, that's where we're at our best. Just have to sit tight and wait for Grandy to get back -- hopefully Granderson will come back strong and give us that extra boost offensively, kinda like making a trade for another big stick...That's what I'm hoping anyway...Gotta get Swish right too -- that left forearm problem worries me. He might need to sit for a week or so to get that arm right - I sure as hell don't want it to get any worse or wind up becoming a problem that lingers....I like what Park gave us early out of the pen - I'm glad he's back...The biggest problem right now is that 5th spot in the rotation. If they really don't have any confidence in Vazquez anymore, they're gonna need to do something. I guess you try to fix it from within first but if that doesn't work go get me Roy Owsalt. The guy would be the perfect solution right now.. |
