A couple of things from last night and from the paper:

(1) A big FU goes out to Josh Beckett. So you get banged around a little and you start drilling people??? WTF man. Robby, Jete... Then he drops Cervelli after the kid just asked for time and stepped out (Beckett was taking a long time between pitches at different times - why this idiot took umbrage with Cervy right there I couldn't tell ya... If you wanna take an inordinate time between pitches, like he did all night long, guys are gonna step out on ya. Deal with it..). F this A-hole man, seriously. Nothing better than seeing him walk off the mound to some boos in his own joint after we cleaned his clock for him. I wonder if there's any carry over today by CC? I wouldn't be surprised if CC dusts a few of these jerks or puts a guy or two on his backside today..I know collectively we're bigger than that but enough's enough with the Red Sox over the years man, seriously....They actually showed A-Rod from the dugout mouthing 'F$%#@^%' A-Hole' at one point in Beckett's direction. Good. He's lucky nobody charged the mound and choked him out last night...

(2) Speaking of A-Rod -- this kid Dallas Braden won't shut his damn yap about what happened a couple of weeks ago. Still jawin' away about A-Rod and now insinuating he might hit him next time they meet...Is this f-in' dude kidding me?? Let it go bro, you made your point already. You sound like a real jerk-beef now carrying on about it...A-Rod countering by saying, "I'm done and don't wish to contribute to this guy's 15 minutes of fame any longer." Lol. Classic. Supposedly MLB and Bob Watson have addressed the matter by calling up the As and instructing them to tell the young fella to knock it off. I was kinda feeling this guy a little bit when it first happened but no longer - Now I hope we tear his head off the next time we face him...

(3) Pettitte's actually a little annoyed that Girardi's skipping him a start. Andy says he feels fine and that "he'd rather be skipped if something was really wrong." Girardi more concerned about the bigger picture...Good news..

(4) Johnson's apparently going on the disabled list and going to see a hand specialist after he tweaked his wrist last night. Man what next with this guy? Dude just can't stay healthy..And this was after he just had a great game to wrap up the homestand where he went 3-3 with that missile into the 2nd deck...Hope it's not too serious but it doesn't sound good to me..

(5) Phil Hughes has looked fantastic....Leiter and Kay were speculating last night on what's made the biggest difference, namely citing aggressiveness & confidence...That may be so, but to me it's the velocity on the heater. This guy's fastball has always been on the straight side, so 93-95 makes a huge difference between the 88-91 we all saw when he first arrived on the scene. He looks good now -- 93-95, with that curveball, cutter and occasional change (which he needs to throw more) is plenty. So happy he's stepped up and assumed a big role in the rotation now. They definitely made the right decisions with Phil & Joba. Those guys are exactly where they need to be now...

(6) With all the injury issues we've had so far, I think Cash really deserves a lot of credit for making sure we had some quality depth to fall back on..He's done a real good job constructing this year's club.

(7) Looks like Mitre's going against the Tigers to open up that series Mon. in Detroit. I'd like to see Nova or Bleich make that start but whatever and leave Mitre as the long man but whatever...Not a big fan of MEAT-tre to be honest. I think we would've been better off keeping Chad Gaudin over this dude but whatever...I think they knew Gaudin was the better pitcher but it came down to dollars and cents -- they just didn't want to pick up Gaudin's pricey option for 2010. Too bad because he had some nice ability and would've been an upgrade over Mitre. Oh well. If that's our biggest problem, we're in good shape I guess.

Go get 'em today fellas. Keep it rolling!

Yup. 6-0. Picked up #6 today. All out of the bullpen. For two years now, he's become one of the better relievers in the National League. This kid could make the NL all-star team, that's how good he's been so far this year. He's become a very reliable relief pitcher that can strike guys out...Over-the-top, max effort-type motion with a fastball in the 90-92 range -- not the hardest thrower in the world but guys just can't seem to get around on that fastball of his...Different pitchers entirely [one was a short-arm 3/4 lefty, the other a direct over-the-top righthander] but Clippard kinda reminds me of Sid Fernandez in terms of fastball effect. Doesn't throw much harder than 90 yet guys can't seem to catch up to it for the most part.. Great change and a very good curveball as well. I liked him ever since I first saw him throw that gem against the Mets at Shea for us a few years ago. Unfortunately he was mediocre for us after that 1st start and was then traded..Washington has since converted him into a full-time reliever..That was a good trade for the Nats, they got a very good young pitcher. Looks like he's rockin' the glasses now - I didn't remember that when he pitched for us...Good for him, I'm glad he's pitching well..

Albaladejo hasn't shown much since we traded for him -- however this year for SWB, he's closing games and pitching really well -- 9 saves with 18 Ks in 15.1 innings & a 1.76 ERA.

Disappointing loss tonight. AJ was bad once again in Boston (which is very surprising considering he always pitched well there with the Jays)...Small silver lining with tonight's loss: Romulo Sanchez's performance. 3.2 innings of shutout ball with 3 Ks. Dude has a good arm - was really bringing it, hitting 95-97 on the gun with a very good changeup with good arm action and a decent looking slider. We've been using him as a starter at AAA since we acquired him a couple of years ago -- with his stuff he might be better suited coming outta the bullpen. Could wind up being a useful pitcher for us in middle relief, esp. with Aceves hurting and expected to miss some time...

Minor issue but what was up with calling up Kevin Russo to take Nick Johnson's spot? Granted he was hitting over .300 in the minors but we already have a utility infielder (Ramiro Pena)..He got in yesterday's game but I don't see Russo playing much if at all...Wouldn't Juan Miranda have been the more logical choice? Miranda's been up before, has good power and like Johnson, he plays a decent 1st base and can give Tex a blow here & there when needed...

Whats looking bad for the Yanks right now is trading Jackson, Kennedy and Coke. Granderson is gonna have to come back and put up some major numbers. Jackson looks like he has some star potential, Kennedy has been very solid and Coke is looking great out of the pen for the Tigers. Granderson is a really good player and could be that for the Yanks, but at this point the price appears to have been very steep as the Yanks gave up 3 young and very solid major league players.

"In hopes of adding some pop to their depleted ranks, the Yankees will call up Juan Miranda today, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. The move was first reported by the New York Post.

The left-handed Miranda is hitting .260 with five homers and 15 RBIs at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Miranda, a first baseman/designated hitter, would give the Yankees a powerful left-handed bat off the bench.

A corresponding move has yet to be determined, though the Yankees are carrying 13 pitchers, one more than they would typically carry."

LOL, I'm not trying to rag on melky.. i just don't think he's a huge loss. he was clutch tho last year for sure.

He was a streak hitter, a pretty good base runner, a good outfielder, and came up with clutch hits and added a lot of flavor to the clubhouse (Or at least the dugout.) He was a good Yankee and we could probably use him about now.

I don't remember where I read it, but I do recall an article after Cano's hot start saying he was much more focused and serious this year without Melky in the clubhouse, taking his lead instead from vets like A-Rod and Jeter.

I think the whole "we lost Melky what an awful trade!!!!1!11!!!" business is misguided. TMS, i think you finally hit the nail on the head after months of Javy bashing by saying "we would have saved about $7M on Javy's salary for this season &... with that extra $7M we could have easily retained Matsui or Damon." Screw Matsui, not having Damon in the 2 spot is going to hurt. I would have still made the Granderson trade, because Damon sucks in the OF, but Johnson is definitely going to get hurt more this season and we will be wishing we had Damon on a 2-year deal. I still think Javy will turn it around, but that's essentially the trade-off, save money on not signing Damon and trade for Vasquez OR keep Damon and use the Nick Johnson money on a cheap 5th starter. I think Ca$h Money was sick of being tossed around by Boras and finally said enough is enough. Can't let it get personal, this could hurt us if Johnson has a debilitating wrist or back or leg injury (the guy is prone to get injured getting out of bed) and it stretches the Yanks thin on the offensive side.
