Jerry Reese was quoted today as saying that the Giants could potentially bring Plax back next year assuming he's not in jail. Even if he's not in jail, it remains to be seen if there are any further suspensions...

i would welcome Plax back w/open arms... there really isn't a better fit for this Giants offense than him right now that we can get... but of course u'd have to make sure he was fully healthy & that gunshot won't have any lasting repurcussions on him physically.

And that's on top of the fact that he'll still be in legal trouble and could be ripe for a league suspension. I think health will unfortunately be the least of his issues.

I wanna know why the Giants and Jets didn't put a retractable dome on the new stadium. Eli pretty much has a lot of difficulties with the swirling winds and it looks like they are building another home disadvantage stadium.

four goats of the game
1. Gilbride aweful play calling needed to run more
2. Eli, terrible performace he definitely has to learn to throw a spiral
3. The Giants defense on 3rd and 20. Thats one time they didn't need to do a all out blitz.
4. Carney, this guy is in the pro bowl

i hope Gilbride goes over to OAK as their coach next season... i want an Offensive Coordinator w/some damn balls who isn't afraid to throw in a wrinkle or 2 in a big game... wow, that direct snap to Derrick Ward play musta taken 2 damn weeks to prepare! stroke of damn genius! not even 1 reverse play against an over-pursuing Eagles defense... not 1 misdirection play whatsoever... PATHETIC!!!

i'm still pissed about yesterday... we should be talking about the Giants' next game vs. the Cardinals next week... instead we're left to wonder about what could have been in a season where we were set up nicely to repeat as World champs.

let's hear some preferable candidates to replace Spags & Gilbride as coordinators if they both get hired this offseason for head coaching jobs.

Yeah, **** Gilbride. Offense has sucked since Plaxico went down. We have talented receivers. There is no way Eli sucks this bad.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Gilbride isn't going anywhere- the Giants were third in the NFL in pts and a really effective offense when they had a legit starting reciever in the lineup.

Spags, I'd think is gone. The top 2 names out there to replace him are Mike Nolan and Gregg Williams, but he will probably replaced internally by LB Coach Bill Sheridan.

I think I heard Nolan is either going to Green Bay or Denver and Gregg Williams is being heavily linked to the Titans (him and Fisher are close) who will probably lose their DC (Schwartz) to a HC job.

Even though Nolan isn't coming here, I think he would be a poor choice anyway. He is a strict 3-4 coach and we have a 4-3 unit in place.

Nolan ran the 4-3 for several years as our D-Coordinator in the mid 90's. He's used it elsewhere too.

Regardless, I think the replacement will be internal.

Is that so Des? I wasn't aware of that. Well, as usual, I stand corrected by you

If named Tom Coughlin's successor, Steve Spagnuolo may stay with Giants
January 13
New York Daily News

"If either the Jets or the Detroit Lions offers Steve Spagnuolo its head coaching job, there may be nothing the Giants can do to prevent their defensive coordinator from leaving.

Unless they're willing to name him their head coach, too.

Giants GM Jerry Reese said Monday the team would consider making Spagnuolo a "head coach-in-waiting" if it would keep him from leaving for another team. It would be an unprecedented move by the Giants, but since Tom Coughlin's current contract expires in 2011 when he will be 65, they could promise Spagnuolo the job would be his then.

"We consider everything here," Reese said. "We try to consider everything."

The Giants already made a big move to keep Spagnuolo last February, when they gave him a three-year, $6 million contract after he was nearly hired as head coach of the Washington Redskins. But at the time, according to a team source, they were not willing to name him Coughlin's successor, especially since Coughlin was about to get a new four-year, $21 million deal.

It's still not likely the Giants would do it. For one thing, they don't know if Coughlin will retire at the end of his current contract. For another, predicting the future can be dicey. What happens if the Giants' defense falls apart in the next three years, or another, more attractive candidate is available the next time the Giants need a coach?

But the fact they'd even consider it shows how much the Giants want to keep the 49-year-old Spagnuolo, who again is in high demand. He's interviewed with the Jets, Lions, Broncos and Browns. The Rams are expected to interview him on Thursday.

And while it's possible that the Giants' 1-4 fade down the stretch will hurt his head coaching prospects, he's earned league-wide respect for keeping the Giants' defense in the top five this season despite the loss of Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. The Giants have appeared to be bracing for his inevitable departure for weeks.

"He is one of those coaches that has certain attributes about him that you can't replace," said defensive end Justin Tuck. "Obviously he's a great football mind, but more than that he's a great person and he's a guy that everybody loves playing for.""

Manning & mates say give Plax second shot

January 13
New York Post

"Eli Manning could not lift his game, could not lift his team, without Plaxico Burress.

If the judicial system does not interfere with Burress, and he is lucky enough to escape the wrath of Mayor Bloomberg, if somehow he has been scared straight by the prospect of jail time for his latest and greatest mindless, irresponsible stunt that crossed over into recklessness, then some of his prominent Giant teammates would welcome him back to chase another Super Bowl next season.

The most prominent of whom is the quarterback.

Manning was anything but a Super Bowl MVP quarterback once his Go To Guy turned into a Go To The Nightclub With A Gun Guy. Burress was having an off year. And still changed the way defenses played Manning, and the way Manning played.

Asked point blank yesterday whether he would want Burress back, Manning said: "Sure. Sure. He's a tremendous player and ... we just gotta see what happens there."

There must have been close to 17 Burress questions for Manning. Naturally, he made sure to compliment his young receiving corps. All of whom are complementary receivers.

"Hopefully you learn from your mistakes," Manning said. "I don't know what the circumstances are, or what upper management thinks, and what's Plaxico's situation, so a lot is going on there."

Burress has caught 26 TD passes from Manning over the last 42 regular-season games. "I've called a few times and sent text messages, but that's it," Manning said.

Did you ever hear back from him?

"I have not."

Finally, Manning lost his patience with the line of questioning. "No more Burress talk," he said firmly. "That was a long time ago. ... He wasn't at the game yesterday, OK?"

Free agent Brandon Jacobs hopes he's at the next game.

"I think he will be back," Jacobs said. "I think he should be back. I don't think he has a bad bone in his body, and I think everyone deserves a second chance." "

No. Fuck you Burress. Someone who ruins a great season doesn't deserve a second chance. That is selfishness at its finest.

There was a note in Mike Garafolo's blog that the leading candidate for OC if Gilbride left to the Raiders would be WR coach Mike Sullivan

who's the dude that looks like a serial mass murderer that embraces every 1 of our D-linemen whenever they come off the field? the D-lineman coach i'm guessing but what are the chances he'd become the D coordinator if Spags left? he seemed to have done an excellent job w/our front 4.

The D-line coach Mike Waufle. He's an awesome coach, but he's one of those guys that really isn't interested in moving up to coordinator. He specializes on D-line and likes it. The guy on the staff that's more likely to move to DC is LB Coach Mike Sheridan. Or maybe DB Coach Peter Giunta (has loads of DC experience in the NFL).
