I don't see the Aldridge trade taking place. Particularly the Knicks end of it.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Riley's trying to get Spree. I'm 100% sure Riley is thinking out the one key move he needs to make to compete with the West. Look for him to make a big deal a couple months before the playoffs.

We need the Penny's expiring contract to get a big man.
Exactly!! thank you!!

And Tim Thomas doesn't also have an expiring deal of about equal $ value?

I think Tim is more attractive as he'd contribute to a team in the last year of his deal, unlike Penny.

So then we have 2 contracts to get us help up front, where we need it the most.

as I said, the trade proposal makes no sense from a Knicks standpoint.

Isiah obviously thinks like us and knows TT and Penny have no purpose on this team. JYD, and Ariza need to play.

I also believe that he thinks KT is overrated.

Penny for Jalen Rose? Rose is a very reliable scorer. He also has a killer instinct and a will to win. Why wouldn't he be welcomed here in NY? He can help the Knicks with ball handling, scoring and leadership.

Jalen is head and shoulders better than Tim Thomas.

Why not trade Jalen for Penny?

While you are at it.....Why not try to get Webber too? Sactown might want to end the days of Webber and try to reload built around Bibby, Peja and now Cuttino when he comes in. Tim Thomas, Moochie, and KT for Webber, Ostertag and bobby jackson might be something they would do cuz they could eat Timmy and Moochie off the books and start the process.

Webber
JAlen
Nazr
Marbs
and Craw looks like a solid bunch of guys that all like each other and would make a serious push to go for the title at least for the nest 3 years.....by then Ariza will be ready and the Knicks can begin to reload themselves.

GO Isiah!!!!

I'd like this trade. I don't care about contracts. It's not my money; it's Dolan's. One thing you'll learn about me is that I don't mind spending other people's money!

Jalen's a good player. He instantly becomes our best player at the 2 or 3. Yes, he's better than Jamal right now even though Jamal has more upside. He'd actually also be our best backup PG.

was that a sarcastic post? you of all people are always harping about the value of expiring contracts.

for the last time Enyspree... Penny and TT's contracts are extremely valuable commodities to team looking to get under cap. We can land a heckova player dealing these "contracts"... like someone said, we should deal them for the big player we desperately need.

Jalen Rose acquisition would be very short sighted by Isiah... and everyone knows how much I'd like to have a plan B for Housless.

the reported trade proposal has already been shot down. Like we expected, it's not happening so we can put this "bad" Rose trade discussion to bed.

p.s. only way we'd end up with Rose would have been taking Toronto baggage to land Vince Carter. That would have happened if Raptors were willing... to take Rose without getting VC would be absurd.

there's 2 ways to look at this...
One is with this team in flux and a large portion of the roster not a part of the future you dont do this because Rose's contract is a year longer and the money is bad. You have a glut of wing players and Rose isnt the best guy to have around when he's not 100% happy in the first place. Keep Penny and stay flexible.

The other way to look at it is Rose is a decent player that can do a lot of things (a lot things we already have, but still). And your trading him for a guy that cant do anything. Penny isnt a stopper, scorer, a PG or a productive anything. He's shot. Who's got more value? Jalen's skills or Penny's contract? I dont know, Im not a GM. Considering we are still turning this team over maybe its not a bad idea to just get the best players you can and go from there.

Everyone is harping on expiring deals being instantly translated into All Star Center- who exactly are we getting? Rose, quite honestly, might be the best player we could get for Penny. And both contracts are about $29 million- are we going to get Shaq?

i'd honestly much rather be getting the package going to MIN (Jones & Donyell) instead...i don't see why MIN & MIA need to even get involved here unless there are some picks or cash considerations going from either TOR or NY to 1 of those teams if they are set on trading Penny for Rose.

... no need to be a smart ass, Franco... we can do a lot better than Jalen Rose... and it's a position we don't need to focus on.

i don't know...did you think we'd be able to get Jamal & JYD for 4 expiring contracts of non-impact players before this season?

personally I would rather not trade TT and Penny at all now or this summer. Use the NAzr/Baker/Moochie combo to get something done in a sign and trade for Dalembert, Curry, Kwame, Chandler or even Swift. Use the MLE for a guy like Hunter. try to move KT for a mid-late pick to strengthen the bench.

Then you go into the season with Penny and TT, two HUGE assets to have during the season. When teams go into the crapper and have a bad season those contracts can get them INSTANT cap space and flexibility for the following year.

You just never know what happens and keeping Penny/TT until the final hour is my favorite scenario. If no deal is made than $30m comes off your books, the boss loves you and you have that much more flexibility with Houston's contract the following year or to make other deals.

The best thing is to draft well and be patient.

Plan well thought out. That is exactly the thing the KNicks need to do. The Knicks need not panick and make a dumb move that will back fire like signing KT to an extention. Have a nice young team starting next year. Ariza, Sweetney, Brown, Craw, Marb. I think that team will be so good that they might just let Penny and TT walk after next year and get role players to take their spot at a lesser price.

Rose is better than Penny right now.

Penny has a better contract.

Unless NY gets the pick, no way you make this deal. Even the pick would have to be top 15, otherwise no.

Either let them walk or move them for Young potential. That's it.

I think Isiah needs to be really patient with Penny and Tim's contracts. I'm hoping Rose and/or Webber aren't his idea of how to move this team in the right direction. Isiah's next trade is going to be veeeeeery interesting.

This trade scenario does not work contract wise. Minny would have to add another contract similar to Donyell to send to Tor to make this work.
