I don't know how you can ask for a better environment for James than that. All on him to succeed and this has got to be one of his last ramps up to the NBA. Good environment for player and team if he earns it.It'll be kinda wild if he succeeds as a super solid 3rd backup C and then goes from there. Potential is there.
To succeed, he doesn't have to do much more than defend the rim and box out and board which will lead to every opportunity for him to score or pass.
Basically, Mitch 2.0 is his role
Agreed but with the caveat that Mitch did those things at a very very high professional level and consistently and within the offense and defense. Steep climb to get to a playoff level, even as a 10+ minute backup. Mitch had 3 playoffs to learn his job.
For a play-in level team, he may be OK, but perhaps not where the Knicks heading. But 3rd string with upside and a little time, not bad at all and probably really good upside scenario for everyone.
We shall hope for the later.
I would say Mitch Lite. He doesn't have Mitch's frame which made him a brute to deal with.
Mostly, I was setting the bar low enough for him to validate taking a roster spot, because we do need someone to fill that role, whether it is him or someone else.
Even if Drummond has an up year, he is still minutes limited. A 3rd stringer that gobbles boards would be ideal.
