Would be like CP3’s mega deal ending a year early and replacing a 50M contract with 8-10M at age 35 or whatever. And either way we will have to see if Brunson’s goal is to ever get a mega deal or keep giving the team flexibility to continue the winning. |

There is no guarantee that a +30 year old Brunson will be paid $81M per year in the future in a 10 year vet max agreement. There is also the time value of money to consider. Invested revenue and assets are worth more up front rather than on the back end just purely due to interest. Example...if you take $10M per season extra up front over 3 years and make a simple 5% fixed investment, it would yield a compounded to equal $33M+ rather than recieving the $30M at the back end. He is both taking one for the team and gambling on himself for the future. Not many athletes do this as their careers are relatively short. Gives the team more flexibility over the next few years and can keep us under the 2nd Apron. Might even let him play with his college buddies for more years. Great to have him do this for his mates and the Knicks. |
