As soon as Randle came in for Obi, the teams offense and defense slowly went downhill. Was it all Randles fault of course not. But ironically this happens a lot which is why I said this team just runs different when Obi and IQ are in. I believe Sims was in the game as well. Yes Sims is undersized but sims Obi iq increases our team energy with momentum swinging plays. Something we don’t get from the starting unit (RJ and Randle) since they rely only on their shooting to impact the game. When shots aren’t falling, there’s no impact. Not the case with sims, Obi and iq. And recently Mitch has looked slower due to injuries. I’m excited to at least see these guys hit the floor again (sims Obi iq) and see if the momentum increases or decreases whenever Randle sits for a while or after he comes into the game. Yes there are times I’m like man glad Randle is in the game. But then like yesterday I’m like we was up 10 then Randle came in and it’s a tie game where we now need Randle to dig us out of this hole that was created when he came in. Granted there was no saving needed when he came in the game smiling and happy. He even took and made a quick 3 off the bench which might have been what caused the downfall. After that Randle took a heat check 3 multiple times and bricked it. He let his man blow by him just like RJ did in this game. The team went from momentum plays with second unit to depleting plays that kills momentum. There’s a mix of players that work (buried behind the starting unit) and some don’t (they are in the starting unit). Either the FO needs to make some decisions or there will be fingers pointed everywhere including at the coach.
Knicks were up and Grant was held to 2 baskets in first. Obi came in and Grant started to score easily. Which really got him going. But you probably missed that. The 14 point lead was erased with Grant on a roll, RJ being RJ, our big three going into one on one mode and oh yeah Simons hitting everything. Bigger change during that run was Grimes and IQ both coming out. RJ may play defense but man its like watching a middle school kid yanking up offensive shots and forgetting there are other players on the team. Frustrating. Randle is equally as frustrating at times but he seems to understand when he does not have it going and that he is expected to pass to others that can create. ie. Brunson.
Tired of cats saying Obi makes the team better. Trade Randle, fine. But stop with the Obi narrative. He cannot play defense. Grant drove on him like a rag doll. He has no clue what to do on defensive rotations. Has no idea how to create. Missed an easy pass off a drive to MR. He DOES NOT stay around on the defensive side for rebounds. Just watch him when the opposing team takes a shot. He forgets a PF has rebounding responsibilities. He had it going early with three. Maybe he gets that back. But what else is he offering? At least with the Frank BS, it was valid that the kid could play defense. Rather trade Obi for Frank immediately. At least the guys crying for him to play more will have some valid reasons.
Do agree that playing RJ 44, Randle 39 and Brunson 41 should not be the norm though. Feel we have several to take some of those RJ and JB minutes but cant really say we have anyone to take more of the Randle minutes. You would have like to see Cam on Grant? Mee too. Except he was hurt.
