I knew that the Yankees weren't going to win so it made leaving YouTube easy. Once the NBA regular season ends and I need the TBS/TNT for the playoffs I will do the reverse. Yankees don't play playoff baseball. Fire Cashman and Boone and they analytics nerds.
Hal Steinbrenner already said Boone going nowhere. It’s likely Cashman still has a job for life
Cashman is obsessed with home run hitters whose only other way of getting on base is walks. That’s fine in the regular season facing mediocre pitching but it will always be exposed in the playoffs. Nick Swisher convinced him 15 years ago batting average was an antiquated stat that no longer mattered. Couple that with his stupid pitching moves more recent like trading for Frankie Montas
Yanks are not built for the playoffs. BUilt for the season. 5 straight post season entry to them. But understand you don’t get to the playoffs without 162 season and you don’t pay the bills without fans in the seats and viewership ratings high. That makes payroll!
Cashman was GM with others who also built winners so its not like he never did it. In the end its Hal who approves the direction of the team and where resources are applied. Fans want chips. At the same time this is a business enterprise that has very high overhead.
Cashman has a job for life based on the 25 years with them. Not “Failure” of coming one series short of going to the world series.
So who do you admire more Cashman or Elf?
At least Cashman is still in the mlb thanks to Hal Steinbrenner. Elf is still collecting unemployment checks
In 8 seasons Elf made just shy of $30,000,000. The kid from Louisiana was the 10th pick and did ok. With some decent investments and careful spending he might set pretty good. Im thinking he'd laugh pretty good at your mockery of him.
Cash was assistant for three years under Bob Watson who took over for Gene Michael.
He has 1 ring as assistant and 5 as head GM. No doubt he inherited a great roster but the GM of a team is the head baseball dude and he as the boy wonder getting the gig at age 31! In that time he like most great execs with long tenure made blunders but a very successful run.
You can say "replace him" but with whom? And how do you know that person will succeed beyond what Cash would have done? You don't. nobody does.
Who do I admire more? I suppose when you dumb it down to simple one liners its easy to admire both. Cash made $25mil in the last 5 years.
How much you pulling down these days? Whats your great accomplishment. Certainly none of us are making Cash or Elf money, but you doing ok in your field of work or life in general, or you live to yell at your sports team and release your frustrations on those who disappoint you?
