RJ just turned 22. none of us here really can project what he will become. Mitchell is a very good player and I wish him well.
Ainge should test the waters. Its his job.

Just like writers will suck us in over and over saying we are the front runners because:

1. He is from NY, and can read a subway map.
2. His father works for the Mets.
3 Any CAA stuff? Of course there is! Scroll down and take your pick. https://www.caa.com/sportstalent/basketball

At some point what is to become of those picks? Every one gives us a chance to both make a selection or trade for more picks, or cap space. They are currency with unknown value.
Im not convinced on RJ but at the same time its been fun as hell watching him develop. Blue chip from day one. So rare knicks have had the chance to draft one. Obi and IQ also.

Definitely inside the top 20. He can anchor a top 5 offense. There are a lot of parallels between he and Melo at that age where he can be built around but his weaknesses need to be taken into consideration.

However, people in touch with the Knicks prior to the draft said the club was wary of trading the combination of picks and players that it would take to land a player like Mitchell. The thinking, according to people in touch with the club at the time, was that there wouldn’t be enough left on the roster to field a contending team.

I don’t know definitively if the club’s thinking as changed since we noted this earlier in July. But I don’t believe that it has.

For example: People in touch with the club recently said New York has had no interest in trading RJ Barrett in any deal.

The quote has links in the article. Hope this is accurate.

Interesting idea. IMHO I think the Knicks HIGHLY value those 2023 picks and would be hesitant to trade them

As many have stated - we don't need two smallish PGs as our backcourt. Mitchell gives you points but little defense and RJ gave us 20 per last season. His efficiency needs a lot but why trade so much for a few more points and worse defense? Plus we lose our future options, youth, etc

We have excellent roster depth and maybe just one more season would tell us if any of our young players will evolve. IQ, RJ, Toppin, Grimes, Cam...feel confident at least one of them will show greater promise and we would regret losing them.

We prob need Pat Riley to save us from ourself.

Not sure Ainge would agree but its a fair offer. Issue is Utah gets 5players

Only able to read the headline at the moment. But I believe the same. Knicks will mostly be bidding against themselves. I don't see the team that has the assets that are rebuilding who will want to make this type of play. And the contending team that does want to make this type of play, I don't see the team that has the assets. Knicks are the rare team that has the assets of a rebuilding team, but also the desire for this type of play. Utah can look to swap Spida with another star, but I'm not sure that's what Ainge wants as a rebuilding team.

Spida's value and Ainge's leverage will only decrease if Ainge sticks to a rebuild. Which is probably why they made it public they are willing to deal him. Cuz they know this is the time to strike.

Ha, did we ever get a conclusive answer as to what happened there- was it the color that was unflattering, or was he wearing a fat suit under it? Or did he rapidly lose weight- I need to know!

Kind of off topic but OG Annuoby may be the smarter play. Will cost way less assets and would really really improve the team. While still setting the team up for another big play if presented due to the remaining assets and team success.

Just got home and not going to read the whole thread but I would be upset if we traded RJ for Mitchell. Straight up. Honestly.

this was exactly my point on negotiating strategy. you need to focus on the other guys concerns/fears -- not Yours

fold in that there aren't that many teams who have the draft assets and the potential appetite for Mitchell. AInge probably wants a lot of picks and Miami doesn't have that. Teams that do are very young and have young promising SGs, e.g., Houston and OKC (depending on SGA) and timeline issues

SO if we do trade let's make sure we calculate the leverage correctly. That said, i still have a problem with the fit now that we have Brunson

SergioNYK wrote:My offer would be something like 5 future firsts, a couple of seconds, Rose or Fournier, one of Obi/IQ/Grimes and that's it. I'm not giving up RJ and I'm not offering unprotected picks. Maybe one unprotected but that's it. Utah can take it or leave it.

But if they are looking for an insane package of RJ, Obi and IQ plus 3 unprotected picks, I would hang up the phone.

In order not to give up RJ....you are going to have to unprotect picks....the advantage for us is that RJ is due for an extension....does Ainge want to pay that or flip RJ for something else.... J Macri was saying that Ainge probably wants picks like he did with the Nets...I do not recall the players Boston even got back just the picks that turned into a Smart, Tatum, and Brown...i think there are two leaders in the club house us...and the Pelicans....because Ainge is betting that both teams will crumble 5 yrs out

Dont believe Ainge would flip RJ. Guessing Ainge isnt going to spend too many years rebuilding. He's going to need players like RJ for the foundation.

If it turns out that RJ wont be part of any deal, I agree some combination of Obi/Quickley/Grimes will likely be needed, in addition to picks. Lots of them. My guess would be Quickley and Grimes.

The FO might see Obi as a future starting 4.

Honestly, I can see him landing in BK with some multi team trade (possibly) with Durant involved. Blockbuster.
