I read an article today that said Lonzo ball might require 2 number ones.

Getting lucky in the draft is the best outcome while still making the playoffs.

How do you get lucky with Cade or Suggs AND still make the playoffs? Got strategies to cause a total meltdown in Dallas?

With our and the Mavs' 1st rounders being low and all the ravings about the cusp of greatness of Lonzo, I am beginning to crack thinking that flipping both of them for him might not be a bad idea.

No I don’t just hope lol

Yea he might be worth it but I wouldn’t give 2 number ones from the same year. I like Corey kispert and a few others in the teens from this year draft. He is a 40 percent plus sniper. I feel every winning team once they acquire a few all stars need a sniper/player like that in the toolbox 🧰
You need different types of weapons in the tool belt.

Also we have like 10 draft picks in 3 years. We won’t have the cap space to keep them. We have to utilize them in some way.

Out of 10 draft picks we need to find 2 gems to complete our bench.

My goal is to have a bench that is as strong as half the leagues starters through the draft

PF Randle (all star)
SF Barret ( future all star )
C Robinson ( top 5 center in 5 years) he needs grown man body and a skill
SG cap space ( all star )
Pg ball ? (Iq) ?

Bench

PF Toppin ?
SF drafted player
C drafted player
Sg IQ (drafted player) ball?
Pg IQ or ball ?

Obviously through all of this there will be veterans sprinkled in but the drafted guys and our starters are for year 2023-2025 when we should be competing for a championship.

If we start coming up short like the Knicks in the 90s we then have 10 B+ players and picks to trade everyone for a big 3 ( what the nets did)

My master plan

So to conclude

Every player we draft or sign we have to also assess their future value to possibly trade them in their prime for a a big 3

If team building is done correctly the Knicks can be top tier the entire 2020s!!!!!!

But a lot of fans I read are thinking in a 2 year window. Anyone who doesn’t see my vision is seeing short sighted or they are trying to build their favorite fantasy squad or get their favorite player on the team.

This is why Lonzo ball is currently my fav because he fits the timeline l (best fit plus talent for us) (age)

trust the coaching staff. They have done a really good job balancing winning and player development. Its also clear they LOVE Quickley and are really invested in him. What does Thibs want? Quality shots, be aggressive, play top flight defense.

IQ is really good. Def has star caliber upside. I heart this kid so much but he's also really REALLY raw. Its fine. He's a rookie. Let him learn the right way. There is a process and its fantastic to watch. We are seeing RJ's ups and downs as well. Lets go draft two more like them this year and keep this going.

I agree. Just develop his strength and body. More handles dribbling. Maybe go all the way to the rim. Absorb some contact against the brick walls and trees. Become a better facilitator/game manager. A 20 foot jumper sometimes vs a 13 foot floater.

I know Lonzo fits the time line, but I'm not sure he's the best fit for the current team. At least with the current roster. He's restricted, so you probably have to throw him a large bag to keep the Pelicans away from re-signing him. I mean, we're not even sure if IQ is the PG of the future. Nothing says the Knicks have to spend their cap space right now.

I hear you. We need more time to see what happens as far as draft standings and available pgs.

I expect a smaller rental move by the deadline for a guy like jj redick.

Atleast one will go and our cap space for this year for a player and second rounder I believe

Why would you believe this? Does nothing for the team who have 2 similar and better players in Burks and Bullock.

Does this pass the Does this even qualify to make sense Test?

You thinking we are not trading one of the three doesn’t pass the sense test.

Never thought that. Rivers is all but gone. It's the type of trade you suggested that is dead in the water

So I understand that magically getting Lonzo Ball on our team *today* (without losing any rotation players) would help our team. He does basically everything Elfrid does and has the upside to do all of those things better. In fact, he's even hitting his 3s and free throws this season. (he's like RJ in that respect!)

My issue is what does this do to Quickley's development? I'd be hesitant to add a player that would be a significant roadblock to Quickley. Ball should still dreaming of becoming all-star/superstar. He's still young enough to make big improvements to his game and get paid for that potential.

Quickley has shown flashes of becoming an extremely special player... will he be given a fair shot at owning the PG role (EVER?) or has it already been decided that he's more of a 6th man type?

Today imo he is a super 6 man ( big fan of his)

If he plays well as a starter vs the nets tonight I’m open to changing my
Opinion

It’s on him. Show me iq..

(Imo he will be a Knick for a long time. Charlie ward longevity type of career if you remember him. At sone point down the road he could end up being our starting pg)

Agreed. IQ right now is a Lou Williams type player. Not an elite starting PG just yet. To be a true elite PG, you have to be able to do so many other things besides score. I think he will get there and Thibs is the one to get him there. I do not see anything wrong with how they have handled him.

He's like prime/veteran Lou Williams, and even then, it might be selling Quickley a little short - Quickley is a better 3pt shooter/ft shooter than Lou Williams ever was.

I suppose you can also say: "So was Steve Novak..." and that didn't make him a good PG.

Interesting fact I just looked up about Novak:
Over his ENTIRE 11 year career, Novak shot 100/114 from the free throw line. (yes, ~10 free throws per year is no major achievement)
Quickley has already surpassed his makes: 104/113. Wow.

Heard about this kid on the radio. Looked him up and he looks like he is the goods. Not rated high in mocks though. Which means very possible for where we will land in the draft.

His jumper reminds me IQs

Need to compete more with higher competition to see if his talent translates.

Interesting player.

He isn't a point guard. His ball handling still needs work and his playmaking is miles away. Dosen't mean he should be a starter/6th man but we need to stop this lie that he is a PG.
The Future is Bright!
I’d leave Quick at starting pg next ten years
