Mitch has a contract until 2022 and that last year is a team option. That is not in dispute at all. What I want to say is if we take that option, he will be UFA in the summer of 2022. If we decline the option, in that case he is RFA this summer. It’s hard for me to imagine that FO will gamble and allow him to become UFA.
Understood. However, even if the team resigns Mitch this summer to an extension, we still would have a ton of cap space through cutting 1-2 players. We should be good with cap space until the summer of 2022, when we will likely resign Randle to a max contract. They should be able to create one max salary slot before resigning Randle. This is all the more reason why we should not trade away picks. We need to keep the cheap players coming in to balance out the cap.
