OKC should compensate a team for taking Paul of their hands. If they don't, well keep him and pray all known deities he remains as healthy as he had.
If he doesn't and there is a great chance he suffers an unfortunate injury, you're stuck with a 40 millions for 2 years bench warmer.
No way the FO should make this kind of risky move without a compensation of some sort in case it goes sideways.

Agree. We're the ones doing them the favor. They need salary relief more than we need an aging point guard. Paul is good, but he still doesn't make us a playoff team. They need to give us one of those picks or step off. That Tobias Harris contract should work for them.

How anyone in favor of a proper rebuild fails to see this as just another starphuck is beyond me.
What exactly does CP3 do with our current roster? Or moreover minus last years biggest producer? As suggested by some. We need to continue adding young pieces, assets and solid draft picks. Not cripple our flexibility for a 35 year old PG. And some on here are suggesting we give up draft picks and young assets? If anything, as mentioned, they will have to give up draft
picks for aomeone to take on such a ridiculous contract. This has old Knicks management written all over it. Hopefully our new FO shows it will not repeat those type of mistakes.

Not saying CP3 is not a good player but the idea he fits our current roster's timeline and that at 35 he has any chance of playing up to his contract is short sighted at best. PASS

Dude what roster are you talking about, we have 8 potential FA, and a few suspect young players (2 with one yr left on their contracts)
so who's TIMELINE ARE WE REALLY ON, you need CP as part of your developing process. your only going to end up over paying some BS role player(like we just did) with same money you spent absorbing CP's contract for 2 yrs

IMO if they wanted to continue with a young team and build with their picks they wouldn't have hired the coach they did, they would have probably went with Kidd or Atkison.

Dolon is hell bent on bringing a star here (WE ALL KNOW THAT) which is why he gets a TOP sports agent to run his team.

His contract can be traded in the final yr to any contender, its not that bad

So your claiming we have NO ROSTER but saying we are a team that would benefit from ONE player. A 36 year old making over 40 Million? Did you miss my point? Which you just also made for me by reiterating we do not have a roster with a one or two year timeline. Paul would be an addition that a team that is ready to compete for a chip but missing a Veteran PG would make. We are not that. So why would you want Paul here?

26 is the new 36, with technology, health consciousness, training, load management, guys really taking care their bodies..his age is the least of my worries..beside, injuries happen to anyone at any age

Again? What is the point? So he stays healthy and has a good year. Which does what for us exactly. Considering, as you said, we have "what roster?" We pay him 41.3 million and trade him for what I would think would not be a favoring return (As per usual). And you want to give up assets?

No, I actually prefer the Conley option. We do need efforts to change the culture and we have a bunch of failed PG's at this point. Last culture changing PG was Jason Kidd and we had a very good season (and Kidd was gassed after about 25 games). We keep trying to swing for the fences and I don't think Chris Paul turns everything around - but he is clearly better and more professional than almost every Knick we have (or have had in the past few years). Personally I can't stand his body language and I'm not a fan of him - but it's worth consideration is all I'm saying.

Will say it again. Chris Paul has no interest in changing the culture. Chris Paul wants a ring. He plays like he wants a ring. Rose brings Paul to NY, he better have a team Paul can take deep in the playoffs, or it will get ugly.

oOH that was a good one.

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

A rental for 2 years - not a savior! Forget Melo joining and focus on who could be a great teacher/influence to what we already have? Conley could as well! I'm not saying this is the move we have to make, but it does make some sense if we have the right mindset of growing pains and developing.

Do you think 40 million plus is the only way you can find a mentor? Just think the idea that anyone can really change the character/play of a player in a year or two is hopeful thinking.

Yes. It is beneficial. He isn't your end of bench mentor like how chandler is for the rockets
He is a leader on the court mentor, look at the improvements of Dennis and Shai this year with his mentoring. Paul yes is 80 million dollar gamble, but this is only for 2 years. If we want to trade him on the second year we can as he will be a huge expiring contract.

Despite his perfomance this year, we can get him for dime on the dollar due to the economics of the nba right now.

With Gallo sure not to resign, Randle, DSJ, cash, ellington and our LAC pick should be enough.

We have so much young guys already, they will end up disgruntled or shine in a different team if we keep losing.

1246 is under the impression what Paul just did can be replicated again.
What is forgotten is OKC traded Westbrook and PG13 and are stacked with youth and picks going forward.
It is not ok to give up future yoot or picks for CP3, and then have him eat one third of the cap.
OKC making playoffs was cool. The core of Adams, Gallo and Paul are Repeated here.
Yes, Paul makes knicks better! But not at the prices mentioned.
We have coaches to mentor young players. All teams have coaches, it’s their job.

Exactly. Also agree with Gustav in terms of why in the world would CP want to be part of a rebuilding and "mentoring" situation in possibly his last two years. While he won't have a choice, that is all we need. A disgrutled CP3 who wants to play himself into a trade or release.

As for your point on filling the need of mentoring through the coaching staff, which I have also mentioned, seems missed by several who are arguing that giving a player 41 million and giving up assets is a more effective way of providing mentoring. Always thought that is what regular coaches were for. Hell,if that is what most are advocating for in regards to the CP3 trade, lets just spend another 15 million on "mentoring" coaches. We can even bring back Kidd, Knick mentor legend, to be on staff. At least he wont count against our cap and we won't need to give up young assets.

That Hawks guy says that CP3 wants to go to the Bucks, that's his preferred destination, apparently doesn't want to come here (and understandably so, we offer him no hope at contention)

If the bucks do trade CP3 to the Bucks for George Hill, Bledsoe, etc, I hope we don’t try and trade for Bledsoe (I’m presuming OKC would want to dump the contracts of whatever Older players they get back

I don’t see him as the piece that pushes the Knicks to a playoff contender. The $41mm max players use a whole lot of cap space where the cap is decreasing. I don’t have better answers than Paul and we might be lucky to get him. That said, you lose the ability to be opportunistic with cap space to add 5 or 6 wins. The value you state is changing the culture. In fairness, I thoughts that’s why we got Thibs.

My number one goal this offseason is to spread the floor. I’d rather keep cap flexibility and really develop the young players than pick up $42mm of veteran player. Especially if we have to give up any assets to get there.

Add Paul to the knicks they are absolutely the 7th or 8th seed next year in what will probably be a 40-50 game season. He’s winning with a not great team in the West

He’s production will definitely deteriorate and maybe he has injuries here and there but his leadership prescence and overall fit is much better than what Randle could over. FA for next two seasons isn’t looking great for us either

If the Knicks get Paul it will be a salary dump trade with the knicks giving up a couple picks

I read an article about a month ago. Knicks would have to cut all of their players to get far enough under the cap that they don’t have to match contracts which is what OKC will want. That’s fine with me outside of RJ, Mitchell Robinson, Frank and Brezdeikis I don’t care if they cut everyone else

Would Philly be simply better with Paul than Ben Sitting Simmons?
What would Philly like? Paul and Frank for Simmons? Just an example, I am not suggesting anything that serious.
Logic is:
OKC has a ton of assets. They can dump Pauls salary with, knicks can absorb it. Philly can't keep Embiid and Simmons on the floor due to injuries. Simmons can't freakng shoot. If Bucks can't with with Giannis, Philly can't with Simmons. He needs time. Embiid is biiologically 30. Its a win right the **** now move. Can philly do better? Conceptually yes. Im just a fan throwing shyt on the wall.

Knicks cap situation allows them to trade for Paul without having to send a matching contract

That’s why the knicks are the frontrunner to get Paul

Paul is a nice player to have but he is not taking us past the first round unless all of our young guys really jump... if we still even have them.

If it were something small like Randle and a protected first then go for it. It’s going to be way more though.

I doubt Paul even gets us into the first-round. We'd have to give Randle just to make the salary works. That leaves us with an even bigger hole at PF. Our cap is compromised even more, so who could we afford to pick up the slack? The front office already said, or at least was rumored to say, that they were trying to collect assets in a similar fashion to OKC. Unless OKC throws in a pick or two, a Paul trade would be counterproductive.

Take our best player, and here's a 1st round pick to go with him...Now where do I sign up for unemployment..

Cmon get serious dude..

If he's soooo good, why are they talking about moving him? Also, I hope we meet one day at a poker table.

OKC wants to rebuild and save money. The economy is wrecked

We’re saying “come on get serious dude” to you! Paul just lost in the first round playing out of his mind with good and talented players. He’s old with a ton of milage and injuries. You’re willing to give up a lot for him? I know I’m not.

Bingo.

CP_Trois could not win with 3 months of rest, a doggedly talented team, and a bubble that kept the team off the streets and out of the party scene.

So we're going to pretend in a place like NYC, a guy whose commercial ubiquity causes nausea between time-outs, will fix decades of losing. Yeah, *that* will happen.

Knicks1248 needs to be featured on that PBS show that analyzes DNA - I think he's the long lost brother of Scott Layden. There's an old Robin Williams comedy skit about Americans overseas bartering with foreign merchants by insisting on raising the price the merchant wants for the Tourist trinket.

"No, you can't have Randle - its Ntilikina, the 8th pick, and 4 future #1s or NO DEAL!"

How about the knicks actually make the playoffs? Then you can cry about Paul not being clutch

I can see a 3 team that includes us where Paul goes to 76ers OKC gets expirings( including Randle?) and we get Horford + considerations.
