He may very well opt out next year. If not contract is over year after that. Now you tell me. Is it wiser to trade Melo for low ceiling playing whose contract goes past Melo's OR simply wait?

I think that's what's holding the trade up. Houston and Melo think the Knicks have to accept bull****. We don't... Melo could sit on the bench for a year and opt out. Stick that leverage in your pipe and smoke it

And that does what? Frees cap space? Freeing cap space should be the least of our priorities when it comes to trading melo.

The Future is Bright!

To me, it is really obvious the negative effect that Melo has on this team. For that reason - he has to go. The negatives are - ball stopping, bad defense, uninspired play and that stupid smile he has when he misses shots or messes up. The man is not a leader that you build around. He never will be. He is best as 3rd wheel. No pressure, just go do his thing.

It would be SO unwise to have him around this YOUNG team for another minute, let alone a season or two.

I like that NY is holding out for as much as possible, if that really the case. They should, getting him cost many assets at the time.

If a trade does not happen, he should be informed that he needs to stay home and not report to camp or to the team. Pay him to stay away. Yes, I feel that strongly about his negative effect.

Thats the problem he already has ruined Porzingis do you want to ruin every young player on the roster. Do we want Tim Hardaway Jr. to go back to his putrid play?

Most of what you saying is your perception. From watching on your TV set your saying he has this terrible effect on the team. Cant say ball stopping when teammates are not scoring. I would call his D bad either..how was Rose, Noah and KP playing on D? And he smiles? Seriously? Thats just who he is. Its a oh im having so much fun smile.

Influence? Isnt that the coaches job? One thing i respect about Melo is he gives his all evey game. I respect he took the high road when Phil was talking the bs in the media. Melo showed class how hevcarried himself..yet he is this bad influence. Melo haters just dont like him. Simple.

Not sure what you mean here. Phils unprofessionalism was the reason KP blew off the exit meeting. Not only did KP take note but players across the league. I dont think ive ever seen a team executive or owner bash their player like this in the media.

Don't be fooled by Melo's "who me?" Disposition. This MF does his dirt away from the cameras!!! Also being LIKED by fellow players is not the same as being a good influence or example. Melo does in fact stop the ball and force up bad shots. Melo is very talented but it's time for him to go.

Bash? He told him the truth probably did it behind the scenes and Melo didn't want to hear any of it. Only thing left is the media outlet or social outlet. Phil had to get Melo to change his game when that didn't work he had to get him to think about Winning only place to do that was another team not a rebuilding one. I didn't see any bashing. Phil has been professional in everything it's that media paints and depicts thing differently here. They always paint the victim aggressor picture when in reality it's just Phil tell Melo the truths. Need to move the ball- true. Need to win championship-true. We are rebuilding- true. Where is the bashing?

KP skipped out the exit interview because of dysfunctional behavior by Phil? Maybe he he skipped out because he and his camp have learned wrong from their mentor Melo. Brain warped KP. Of maybe KP was telling Phil to change this dysfunctional group altogether. Like get Melo the out of here and Rose too. Maybe just maybe KP wants nothing to do with Melo hence the Knicks still trading Melo even with Phil gone. Maybe that was KP's demand.

The media doesn't give us the truthful picture. They give us a story and that is what their job is a story and drama to sell.

Too much speculation buddy. Phil was a failure. His job was to built a roster not instruct them how to play. He was not the head coach. He brought in no talet to surround Melo. R Lopez and Affalo when there was space for 2 max contracts?? THJ for Grant..Lopez and Grant for Rose. Make up your mind. Noah 70+ mil. Trade Shump/JR for peanuts so they can help Lebron win a ring?

Please don't use Phil in any argument as your defense. Straight up failure and on top of that runs his mouth to rub knick and other team players the wrong way. I still dont know how good of a coach Phil was. Lets not forget he was winning with Jordan/Pippen/Kobe/Shaq

How about screaming at KP privately for having the unmitigated gall to say something good about the triangle offense? That's what I call "dirt away from the camera".

Once again max players were never coming to the Knicks via free agency. They just don't and the reason is very simple why deal with NY media when someone else will give you the same amount of money elsewhere. You have to over pay for marginal to good players to get their services.

If you were a max player and knew what NY was all about you would stay away too. The media plays such a massive role in the players decision to come to NY. That is why they over pay. You know how big the Knicks are that Peyton Manning at the ESPY dedicated jokes about them. Players pick this up and so do agents they tell them stay the f' away from NY unless they break the bank and they can plan their escape from NY.

Dont think thats correct. We've seen the trend free agents typically re-up with their current team or jump ship to a winning team. Alternatively players plan to jump ship to the same team i.e Miami big 3. Go ahead and look at the trend. Really its the knicks losing record not the media thats made it a challenge to sign free agents here. Please dont make it to be more that what it is.

Not sure what you mean here. Phils unprofessionalism was the reason KP blew off the exit meeting. Not only did KP take note but players across the league. I dont think ive ever seen a team executive or owner bash their player like this in the media.

Melo had nothing to do with ruining kp as you put it

Wrong again. The record has very little to do with it. Even if the Knicks were winning they will not be breaking down the door to join the team. It's a fact. All major FAs think they can change a situation. Ragardless the trend won't happen here never will. The Knicks major acquisitions will come through draft and trades.

Simple.

This is my point. "Dirt away from the camera". How would you know? Your assuming this with no facts. Not being objective here.

How about screaming at KP privately for having the unmitigated gall to say something good about the triangle offense? That's what I call "dirt away from the camera".

Cmon now

The story came out...can remember when...You want to call it a lie, fine, but if true it is very revealing.

You can reach your own conclusions.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Michael Jordan got in fights with Steve Kerr, John Paxton and I believe Will Perdue. He also used to dogged Rodney McCray so bad in practice that it ruined his game and his confidence to the point where he was useless. And then there was the story where his used to try and dog Bill Cartwright (because they traded his boy Oakley to get him) until Cartwright threatened to end his career if he continued. Then there was his reluctance to want to run the triangle (sound familiar) when Phil arrived calling it an "equal opportunity offense."

So how good of an influence was Jordan on his teammates? I guess when you win rings people conveniently forget all of this.

Michael Jordan doing something doesn't make it right. He was absolutely horrible to his teammates but Phil Jackson made it all work. To his credit Jordan didn't sulk about Phil and didn't get him fired.

Pleasd give me an example of a highly regarded free agent that signed w a team wirh a losing record w no future stars?

I'll wait.
