Love played 46 games out of Cavs 53 games, Love will be getting rest and working out in therapy to be prepare for his role in the playoffs .. Love will probably return in 4-5 weeks.

At this point, why trade Melo for a bag of golf balls? KP has shown he likes having Melo around to help take the pressure off him. Melo can opt out at the end of next season - I think there's a high chance he does to go play with CP3 and Lebron. I don't see any reason to force it before then and lock ourselves into Austin Rivers for three years. Austin Rivers is not a playmaking PG.

I no longer think this is a positive, especially when I watch KP's role in the offense when Melo is on the floor. Much prefer running the offense through the young guys and let them take their lumps. Otherwise we are a 35 win team with Melo and that is the WORST position in the NBA to be in. Thats Jordan Hill vs. Steph Curry. We need to do this right. Willy is showing he's a build around guy. We have KP. Its not enough. We need another blue chipper.

35 wins would be a career high for Phil. I don't see this team winning 30.

The Love injury, to me, opens up Cleveland as a possibility for Melo where it was not before.

But you really want to take back Shumpert, Frye and a bunch of crap instead of just paying Melo for one more year and then he opts out at the end of 2018?

To me we'd have to get back something worthwhile to tie up the cap room. Austin Rivers or Shumpert aren't really doing it for me.

No.. I hate those deals. They suck. But long term? I think that makes sense. At least Austin Rivers is a good player. We are NOT getting great value for Melo, it just isnt happening. Its just about whats best right now. We have a smart coach. Its very possible, if not likely that this group rallies a bit and wins some games. I can picture something like that last Woodson year when we were 21-40 and finish 16-5. Granted we had no pick that year... my point is it would be the worst.

Its always about opportunity. Its such a deep draft and 5-8 slots will be the difference between a good player and a franchise player. Sure great ones fall and high ones bust but the averages tell a story. Higher = better.

That year, the Woodson one, they knew they had no pick and were rallying to make the playoffs after Tyson Chandler came back from a broken leg. That was a 54 win team finally healthy, racing to make the playoffs, knowing they had no draft pick.

This year Noah is no Chandler, their defense is terrible. Phil and Hornacek are hopefully on the same page that winning games after the all-star break is not as important as developing the young guys and positioning themselves for a good pick.

Hey, if there's a decent deal for Melo, sure pull the trigger.

But I could just as easily see a scenario where we have Austin Rivers on the books for three years and he's blocking the development of a young PG prospect. Unless there's a Melo deal where we can say "Hey, that's a good deal!" I don't really see the point of making a deal here.

Boston brings back Paul Pierce who gets to close out the remainder of his career as a Celtic and may offer valuable minutes as a bench player in the playoffs.

Toronto eases their luxury bill and recieve cheaper replacements that may be able to duplicate what Carroll brings.

LA upgrades their talent that are locked in at their current figures for several more seasons.

Knicks are able to get assets back for Melo. JJ Redick could be re-traded to the Wizards for another first round pick in this year's draft, giving us 3 first rounders in this years draft. Jamal Crawford could be peddled to the Sixers for cap space. Austin Rivers could be part of our rotation moving forward with KP, Willy and our lottery pick. Carroll helps with veteran leadership and culture building until he expires.

I'm totally down for this. Reddick is easily tradeable and should be flipped to another team looking for backcourt help. I think we could peddle Carroll off to another team next season when his contract is a little shorter. Crawford has a $3M buyout in 2018 so he really only has 1 year left on his deal. Toronto is currently picking 21 and with a little luck maybe they drop off a little bit and pick in the late teens instead.

The only thing I question is if Boston is willing to help out a rival in the Eastern Conference (that would be Toronto not us).

Thanks man. Do the Raptors really improve though? I think their primary motivation for doing the deal is the flexibility they'd get to keep the rest of their team together in the offseason. But I don't think the trade moves the needle for them on the court this season....unless they use that trade exception to acquire someone.....

I don't know that the trade improves Toronto this season, though James Young is a little interesting. But it does help them in the near future to potentially get better.
