The Courtney Lee deal "would not have happened without Joakim Noah," a source close to Lee says. Lee had several offers to decide from and chose New York in part because of Noah's recruitment. "Courtney understands what playing for the New York Knicks means," a source close to Lee says. "He wanted to play in New York and Joakim Noah was instrumental in recruiting him. Would not have happened without Joakim. Courtney couldn't be more excited."

Beat me to it...Think Lee jumps aboard if it was Lopez who was doing the recruiting

Sure, the way he has been built up since being traded Lopez would've convinced Durant to sign with us.

I like the signing. I would have liked 4 for 40 but the cap increase has made the market insane

Not sure but Curry would be awesome and would be a nice fit as the back up point guard.

I don't understand how much money we have left. My understanding was we had $29m if we didn't renounce DWill. Noah got $16.5m year 1, Courtney Lee would be around $11m year 1 with raise to get to $50 over 4. So I think we might have DWILL's cap hold plus maybe a million? Curious to see if we target DWill or a backup PG

With the way the rest of the roster is set, now I would feel good going after Seth Curry. Now if Sacto matches, we aren't screwed. Just move on to the next option.

Lee is about as good a pickup as we can expect given our funds I was afraid he would take more elsewhere.
At least the starring 5 is set.

could have worse.

He does not pass the ball and as a starter he would have learn how to be much better passer. He also attempts very few free throws

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I still might have tried to go big and sign Crabbe to an offer sheet by trading O'quinn for cap space. That could have created $19m or so in funds.

We will need that cap space to find a backup PG and a backup SG

The Nets may do that. It will be interesting to see if Portland matches.

I don't know if it will be Rivers but we absolutely need a legit backup point guard and it should be at the top of our list now that we signed C.Lee. There's some pretty good guys that would be really good backups out there and a couple i like are......

A.Rivers
M.Chalmers
S.Curry
J.Crawford
K.Martin
R.Sessions
G.Vasquez

K. Martin doesnt play PG....Vasquez, Chalmers would be great

+1

compared to who? What type of litmus test are you putting out there?

Lee had more FTA and assists than Danny Green, compatible type of role.

They only have 4.3m left to find both unless they trade O'Quinn. They may find someone but I'd rather they invested in a young guy with upside instead of a 4yr contract to a guy over 30. He's an okay player so it is what it is

I think they want to win now and saw Lee as the right guy. Fournier resigned with the Magic. I think Portland matches an offer to Crabbe. I don't think Rivers was leaving the clips/dad. Waiters may have been attainable but I think Lee is a better choice. Batum resigned. I think Lee was the guy. Maybe Holiday continues to develop. Not much out there. Marks may make an offer to Crabbe and if the Blazers don't match we can certainly second guess the Lee signing.

I like Crabbe, and he is 6 years younger with a greater upside, obviously, but Lee has some significant playoff experience in his favor, is a similar player in many ways, and he's been a starter before.

Crabbe has started all of 17 games at this point in his career.

I would've been very happy if we had been able to grab Crabbe, but Lee was a VERY solid catch.

The idea is to put a vet group of starters together with KP. Phil had the same thing with Bynum when they went to the Finals. He said that he wasn't really on board with having Bynum cuz he didn't think he was ready but they were able to win and it changed his mind about having a young up and coming player in his starting lineup.

The Netsdaily guy, used to post on njo sports forums as netincome, is really pushing for the Nets to make an offer to Crabbe. I hope they do. I am curious as to whether the Blazers match especially after the Evan Turner signing.

that's because he's a spot up shooter who does not get too many shots as he plays within the offense.
