Sounds crazy but I'd only want him if he proves he truly wants to be here by taking a team friendly deal: Rolo money or less. The guy is loaded, and other things should be motivating him at this stage in his career or we shouldn't want him. We would need to convince him this isn't about what we/Phil thinks he's worth, but if you want to transform the team you need to work for less so we can get other guys. Judging on his appearance the other night with Chuck and Kenny he wants to win and be a major contributor. That limits his options. If you consider the current contenders: GS (no -- not enough touches); SA maybe; Clevland? OKC (don't see it; they have some good bigs); LAC (no they have DeAndre); Miami (they'd rater keep Hassan; Toronto? (5)(7)

Hard to envision a starting point lower than 4/$80mm. I cant even say that I would do it if I was GM. High risk move, but the upside is great. The upside is if he's the same player in Houston without a crappy attitude than he puts the Knicks back in the playoffs. So the team gets better, and you get you flip Rolo for a young guard and or a pick, so you improve at C and you fill the team's biggest need by upgrade the guard spot. I mean there are some really center starved teams with assets. Boston jumps out with 3 first rounders and a handful of guards to package for a player like Rolo, and Rolo could really move the needle for them. His penchant to disengage if he doesn't get touches. All of that said if Phil can get him for a reasonable price he almost has to do it. The rebounding and D is still strong and the depth he would add is hard to knock. "winning is more fun... then fun is fun" -Thibs

Interesting You have to take into account durability as well. It's not a sure thing of course but Lopez has been durable, Howard has not. |
