I would take Dwight Howard, but the price has to be reasonable.
A 3 year deal, with a 4th year team option, at $20M per season.

Howard/Porzingis/Melo as your starting frontcourt has to be one of the best in the league.

Lopez would become trade bait, to see what we can get in the backcourt. I would even like having RoLo as the backup. We're pretty weak at scoring points in the paint. When you have a Dwight Howard to throw the ball into when he's open or got good post position, you will have many more points in the paint.

What do you mean? Dolan has the final say on all decisions.

He made his decisions based on what will apiece the fan base and make them spend more on the Knicks.

All of that said if Phil can get him for a reasonable price he almost has to do it. The rebounding and D is still strong and the depth he would add is hard to knock.

He is the opposite of what the Knicks should seek. A cancer? No thank you.

it appears that Howard's body is already starting to break down. Nope. No thank you. This guy ran away from LA because he couldn't deal with Kobe being mean for a couple of seasons. He would have been the attraction in LA... How do you think he's going to handle NY?

Does he want to win? Last big contract?

IMHO he is not a max player any more and because of his back, going on a 4+ year contract is insane. 3 years starting at $18 and I'm in. $20M at 4 years and I'd think long and hard about it.

yea man its a really tough move. Hard to envision a starting point lower than 4/$80mm. I cant even say that I would do it if I was GM. High risk move, but the upside is great. The upside is if he's the same player in Houston without a crappy attitude than he puts the Knicks back in the playoffs. So the team gets better, and you get you flip Rolo for a young guard and or a pick, so you improve at C and you fill the team's biggest need by upgrade the guard spot. I mean there are some really center starved teams with assets. Boston jumps out with 3 first rounders and a handful of guards to package for a player like Rolo, and Rolo could really move the needle for them. Interesting

So we sign D.Howard and C.Lee and trade R.Lopez for A.Bradley and RJ Hunter.

PG--A.Bradley
SG--C.Lee
SF--Melo
PF--KP6
C--D.Howard

Bench--J.Grant, T.Wroten, KOQ, W.Hermangomez, L.Galloway, RJ.Hunter, L.Thomas (re-sign) D.Williams (re-sign)

That's a playoff team for sure and a hellz of a defensive starting unit.

Or we can trade R.Lopez to Atlanta for J.Teague with the condition that of him signing a new contract. Atlanta is most likely gonna lose A.Horford to free agency and they've obviously already took plenty of calls about Teague around the trade deadline.

PG--J.Teague
SG--C.Lee
SF--Melo
PF--KP6
C--D.Howard.

We traded JR for a smile and a handshake just to clear the locker room of a knucklehead. Let's not double down on Dwight.
When JR went on his shoelace craze and Dwight was the only one willing to match him man-child for man-child.

Sounds crazy but I'd only want him if he proves he truly wants to be here by taking a team friendly deal: Rolo money or less. The guy is loaded, and other things should be motivating him at this stage in his career or we shouldn't want him. We would need to convince him this isn't about what we/Phil thinks he's worth, but if you want to transform the team you need to work for less so we can get other guys.

Judging on his appearance the other night with Chuck and Kenny he wants to win and be a major contributor. That limits his options. If you consider the current contenders: GS (no -- not enough touches); SA maybe; Clevland? OKC (don't see it; they have some good bigs); LAC (no they have DeAndre); Miami (they'd rater keep Hassan; Toronto?

You have to take into account durability as well. It's not a sure thing of course but Lopez has been durable, Howard has not.

Ha! Yeah we wish. He has a $23 mil option he'd be opting out of. Hard to imagine him taking anything less then $25 mil. He may want $30 but I doubt he could get that with his rep. I still think Phil would have to try and sign Howard if he wanted to come here.

We need another big and the depth would be incredible. Add Howard and a 3-D SG and you have a much tougher Knicks team.

Center is not a position of need for us. O Quinn is not a beast but he costs nothing, can be a good passer at times and has a nice mid range shot. Plus I think he was not as focused as he could have been with what happened to him last year. I expect him to bring more next season. The only focus should be the guards.
Howard does not deserve $25 mil and I doubt he'll get that much.

The name of the game is to maximize your talent. If Phil can get Howard he should. He'd be an upgrade over RoLo and the depth chart would be stronger with RoLo off the bench.

We can address guard even if they signed Howard. People were suggesting Pau so why not Howard? He's younger and still able to rebound, defend and score efficiently at the rim.

what "talent" exactly does dwight howard have besides a jump hook?
