I was going to say I could see Memphis snapping up Vogel- I think that's where he'll end up and it would be a nice fit for him.

Every team without a head coach is gonna have F.Vogel at the top of their list so seeing that Memphis will be interested is just what i expected when i saw they fired Joerger. If Phil wants Vogel i would think he could easily have him and the only other team i could see him chosing over the Knicks job would be the Houston job since they already have a good team and a owner that will spend money.

Vogel to houston? funny

Houston is talking to Vogel's reps.....Hmmmmmmmm, you were saying??? FUNNY!!!!

Thibs was available all year; so was McHale for the most part; so what's the point? Does that mean they sucked because they weren't hired by other teams who needed coaches?

Joerger in particular is misleading. He was supposedly talking to Sac LAST Year, and again this year and it's one of the reasons he was let go; so why act surprised that he went there?

This isn't a time to be jumpy. I get it that people have doubts about Rambis -- and they are justified!

the issue is Phil is weighing the pros and cons of the devil he knows versus those he doesn't. He doesn't want FisherII

Well said. Also, what is up in Memphis. Chris Wallace interviewed with the Kings to be their assistant gm. It isn't clear whether he didn't get offered the job or if he decided to stay in Memphis but it is a weird turn of events.

Not a big MDA fan. I think his deficits make him not successful in most situations unless he has a very unique roster like in Phoenix. Kerr wanted more defense from him in Phoenix. Kerr's team is amazing and unique offensively but they play great defense.

Yes, without Nash and Amare, MDA is not as good. WIthut Jordan or Kobe, Jax is not as good, without duncan, Pop is not as good......Long list. MDA had a unique roster and like the knicks in the 90's was haunted by the Spurs and the Lakers.
His unique roster was enhanced by his system. When Kerr wanted more defense, he in effect castrated the teams offense. When Kerr and Sarver hired Terry porter to fulfill Kerrs vision, it was a disaster.

Kerr inherited a 55 game winning team on the upside. No doubt he has ENHANCED that team and perhaps has taken some from MDA, Phil and Pop along the way. Good for him.

MDA is solid, but he has his system and if the roster is not there, it don't work.

Actually, Kerr did not make good decisions in PHX. When Sarver bought the team that Collangelo built and was winning like crazy and fun to watch, Kerr had the idea that a stronger defense was what was needed. The team with Shaq fell short because you don't add a guy wth 25 games left and rethink the team into the playoffs. What Kerr should have done was evolve the team over time to be more complete. What happened instead was nothing short of ruining what they had. The league has emulated more and more MDA style ball!!!

Kerr was not the architect of the GSW. They are a good defensive team in the same mold that Miami had good defense in that they have great athletes and are very quick. Kerr came in and loosened up the offense.
By the time Sarver and Kerr were in PHX, that team had peaked. Sarver should have embraced that system and hired a GM that would have worked to replace the aging players with MDA style guys. That is "building a culture".
GSW build that and when the weakest link was the coach, they bought in Kerr. Then they were complete.

Teams that stick to an Ideal often do well. Some might see that as being inflexible or narrow minded. If you have experienced success with that, you tend to gravitate to it.
Thus, Phil is inflexible and narrow minded.

He was a atrocious for the Nets- pretty much gave up and started coasting- very unusual for a coach to do that so blatantly

Looks like MDA is the serious front runner. I don't think that Vogel stood a chance.
