the nba's "solution" was the introduction of zone defenses.

outside of these "minor developments" it was introduction of the 3-point line that has contributed most to the strategies behind the "modern offense," even though it has taken 35 years for that change to influence the game to what we see now.

the price you pay is a perimeter-oriented game with very few post up big men and more oh-so-boring drive and kick stuff, with most driving and kicking based on the aforementioned loosening of the rules about palming, traveling, and moving picks-- combined with the abolishment of the hand check. it's hard to watch this sort of basketball when there's so much league-sanctioned cheating going on, and it is mind boggling that the league (under stern) adapted these changes in the first place.

and to think this mess all started with magic and jordan.

all possibly true but does not a case for what is the best strategy to deal with todays game.

I personally have zero interest see big guys who can barely move back their fat azz into another player until he gets to the basket.

I think the three is one of the most exciting plays in the game even the old timers will always hate it since its not what they grew up with.

three point shooting is not the issue-- there has been little change to shooting as a skill since the 50s. but ball-handing and footwork and the pick are at issue. if magic and jordan were not allowed to palm and jordan not allowed to take an extra step, we would not have to endure the pistons and the knicks, iverson and his cheating, etc. shooting was never an issue for me.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Many teams run similar actions. Our offense isn't that similar to SAS. Pop is always adding things to their offense. They have a system offense just like us only they use their counters well and can adapt on the fly. Sometimes they just come up and run drag screens on the wing. Pop is very creative. To simply say all modern offenses are just high screen and roll is a bit ignorant. Every team uses a lot of motion. SA uses the swing motion which doesn't heavily focus on post ups like the Triangle, but they have their variations to get good inside position as well.

You win in the NBA with defense, and "making" consistent high efficient shots created by spacing, and ball movement. All offenses in the NBA seek the same end game of "making" consistent high efficient shots. San Antonio Spurs shoot the highest FG% in the NBA, Second highest 3pt%(6th lowest attempts), Second highest FT%(Behind Knicks), Spurs also shoot the lowest amount of FT attempts in the NBA which is interesting. They have the second best ast ratio behind GSW and the #1 Defensive efficiency in the NBA.

If you look at all the best teams in the league. They are for the most part the best teams in the league because they have the best players and not as much due to the systems they run. Rockets shoot the most FTs per game in the NBA and the most 3s in the NBA per game. They are mediocre and also play no defense this season, yet these are 2 key elements of the modern offense. So they can't just show up with the modern offense shoot a ton of 3s and hit a bunch of FTs and be a great team.
