Exactly!!! It's so obvious what's going on and that Phil has made some progress with the roster, but clearly things still need to be addressed. This was never supposed to be the final product. This past summer was about establishing a foundation and continuing to build from there. There's no way Phil could fix every problem in one summer. We all hoped for more from this roster but it doesn't change the goal of building a winning roster. Getting a legit Backcourt is the new prime target.

It's frustrating but then it would also be frustrating if we were Philly. People act like they'd understand a total rebuild but in truth NY fans NEVER understand the process of building a team. No patience and no understanding. Thing is, this summer will be another opportunity to add talent and fill some holes in the roster.

The truth is Phil has revamped the team. Nobody wanted to sign here. With the progress made maybe teams will want to be here. Kp, Rolo and Melo are great guys to pass to. It's a point guards dream. The triangle is a shooters dream. Maybe free agents look at this situation and say hey if I sign there and this guy signs there, we could really make some noise. For instance, Rondo and Fournier or Jennings and OJ Mayo...just throwing that out there.

I totally agree. Rome was not built in a day. The way to judge Phil is does he make improvements from year to year. That would be a hell yeah! We now have a very good front line that can compete with any front line in the league. Phil is more than half way there and is building a very good team. We also have a solid group of role players in Lance Thomas and Derrick Williams. You can add Galloway to that group. Grant is a wait and see. Now, we just need to get starting backcourt. He messed up on Afflalo and Calderon. I don't expect him to bat 1.000 on every move.

The problem is not the system. The problem is affalo is one of the worst shooting guards in the league. Calderón is the worst point guard in the league. Galloway is one of the worst guards in the league. The rest of the team are filled with redundant role players. If we had a top 30 point guard (yes our guards aren't even top 30)... and a top 30 shooting guard the Knicks would not be where they are. Basically place any backcourt from any team in place of ours and we will have at least 10 more wins...

We have the worst collection of Guards in the NBA that could be a reson why the team is struggling

Phil acquired Jose, saying he was the perfect guard to run the Triangle. Phil signed Afflalo before anyone else in Free Agency - before Rolo. Phil traded Tim Hardaway to get Jerian Grant - a trade I loved, but I think a lot of us would admit Grant has looked best running the pick and roll, not the Triangle.

So to me the problem is either the way Phil evaluates players for his system or the system itself. Yes, Jose is an issue. But is it his fault he's starting? What's he supposed to do, bench himself? He's the only veteran PG on the ENTIRE ROSTER.

The Knicks 2 biggest problems are not Triangle.

It's that they've got no real perimeter defense. Every good defensive team has a player at the perimeter who can be a force defensively. Knicks don't have that player.

They've got a star/franchise player in Melo who can't carry a team throughout a season. He's in decline and getting worse each season.

We scored 105 points tonight despite Melo playing horribly. He was 2-15 at one point. Since Rambis has coached the Knicks they have averaged 101.8 points a game. That's really good. The bigger problem is defense. They can not stop anyone, and it starts with poor perimeter defenders.

Yeah this team clearly has issues in that you want your PG and SG to be guys that can get it done on both ends. At least at a respectable level. You look at a guy like Draymond Green and you realize just how impactful he is as a 3 and D guy. The closest we have to that is LT but he's not a starter!!! That's a huge issue.

Now the only way this team can overcome that is for the to be an exceptional offensive team. If Melo is going to be on this team going forward, his presence means that you won't have a great defensive SF, so you have to hope you can get that perimeter D from the SG and PG spots. If Melo isn't out there then you have LT who can at least give you some kind of respectable Defense. So then you can have Gallo and LT on the perimeter and that leaves fewer holes defensively.

Draymond Green plays PF and C for the Warriors. Lance Thomas could never do that. KP is the closest thing we have to Draymond and Draymond destroyed him a few weeks ago.

I mean, yeah. Lance is even more zero like Dray. At least KP can hit 3s and defend down low and rebound and pass a little. Lance does like one of those things.

I understand that no system will rejuvenate our aging backcourt, its not about that. Its about having every player that comes here in effect having to learn a new language on offense. If we had a core in place, if Phil were coaching, it would be the way to go. We have neither.

A ballhandler that can penetrate the defense (beat guys off the dribble) and pass would go a long, long way for us in both wins as a team and the Triangle execution. The Knicks offensive system is not the problem. This system has helped players like Lopez, Porzingis and Galloway considerably. Looking at our talent level, if a coach or system is getting 103 points a night out of the team and we're not playing high tempo/run and gun offense (Which we aren't, we are playing execution slower/medium tempo offense) then that's a good system. Don't know what other system would have had this team do better. The major difference is us being 30-30 or 32-28 and our current record of 25-35 is that Melo couldn't keep going how he was 5 weeks ago. Melo in his prime or a legit top 10 player would have us at .500 or better and in the playoffs.

We've been saying this all year, that the Triangle Offense isn't the problem. With the improvement from Jose, Gallo and even Jerian it makes things run so much better. You can see the level of execution is getting better. The players are starting to know what they're doing as a group.

I'm really impressed with the attention to detail from Rambis. It's the best Triangle execution I've seen from this team.
