KP also has Melo to mentor him and take alot of pressure off of him, Pat's Melo (Bernard King) got hurt and then the dumb organization just let him go.
I bleed orange and blue for life.

20 games into his career and KP6 is a smarter b-ball player than Patrick Ewing at retirement.
Anyone disagreeing with this statement didn't watch Pat play enough.
I would absolutely agree with that.
how so?
KP's Bball IQ is already through the moon while Ewings was always questionable at best.
Wow.....really? Be aware of some back lash for that statement! You know when somebody has high IQ, when they can't use their knees anymore, and still play at an All Star level......Ewing lost his knees early into his extremely long NBA career. His skill set was limited, not his IQ. KP has more tools in his skill set, and he doesn't even have facial hair yet.
don't care about backlash. Ewing was a freak of nature in many ways. He was also a black hole which was ugly. Was this an IQ issue or just selfish and a bit of narcissism?
KP seems to see the floor like a guard. He still has a lot to learn about the feel but he will catch on really fast.
black hole who carried his team to 10 straight years of making it to at least the 2nd round. 10 straight years. Want to call him disgusting as well?
lol I'd welcome that black hole any day of the week and twice on sundays

it was also a different era- kp would have already been to a hospital the way they played. less fluid & I think the biggest criticism I have of Ewing was his hands/passing wasn't the best.
yes. I loved ewing and he was a warrior with a huge heart and hunger to win. I just had a big problem with his (lack of) passing.
sure maybe if Starks put up 36 shots and went 4-36 off Ewings passes instead of only 2-18 we'd all have rings

I had no problems with Ewing taking every shot at a 50% clip. Melo in the low 40s and 30s is a different story. He tries to do more than he is capable. The more Melo stops trying to be jordan/kobe the better off we'll be

different players bring different things and have different skill sets. Thats what makes the sport and team building so interesting. The same traits that made Ewing the great warrior we all remember are the same ones that contributed to the holes or lacks in his game. You do understand this right? Im not trying to ride you, but when you knock these guys like Ewing and Kobe with words like black hole and disgusting I feel like you are missing something. Some guys can make mental adjusts in their approach, but not all can. Sometimes it takes a great facilitator to accomplish that, or a very strong personality. Look at Jordan's numbers before and after Phil Jackson. Not many people would have been able to coax those changes out of that player, but Phil did.
Its not as simple as a choice. I read your posts and I get the impression you feel guys like Ewing and Kobe didnt pass more because they just couldnt be bothered. You dont really beleive that do you?
love the way you ask these so condescendingly like when you asked if I watched Draymond Green .... eeeeeeesh.
yes. I get it all. Kobe does it on purpose because he is a narcissistic pig. Ewing was just a bit stupid. Melo just can't believe that there is another shot on the court better than his. The great Zach Lowe (my new hero) pointed this out and I gave him a standing ovation. I don't really think that Ewing is stupid, just trying to make you mad.
lol... Ewing was not the sharpest tool in the shed
How so? he was very well spoken and did very well academically. He never mis-spoke

Ewing came out with a college degree and in short time established his NBA game to include an offensive skill set not seen in College. The era of big big men it was common and effective to get the ball and pound it down. Ewing in his prime was worthy of the superstar status and top 50 status. After the best runs in the absence of Jordan, in 1996 the knicks hired Don Nelson at the time ewing was starting to slow down. This did not happen over nite but he was creaky, cranky and a potential free agent. Knicks were a cash cow to MSG and while Don Nelson never won a chip, he has won a ton of games and who knows if allowed could the knicks in that era produced a champ. Ewing was seen as the culprit of the mutiny and the threat of leaving was real. Knicks bowed and thus Ewing was empowered with JVG as the coach. Still good years followed but Ewing was less willing do what Wilt did and be a defensive and rebounding presence while his offense declined. We saw in 1999 what speed ball could have been. If nelson was kept and ewing traded who knows what other moves could have happened.
How it ended was not ewings full career. I saw the whole era. Ewing like most stars thought they were best to handle the ball. There was truth to that but no championship banner to back I up.
KP plays in a different era, has a different skill set and I can't see even as rookies we can begin to parallel.
era definitely plays into it. Players are taught today that selfish is just not ok.
KP's bball iq and off the court iq seems to be very very rare. That is not an indictment of ewing. Ewing also played in an era with Shaq and Hakeem who were much smarter than him. Again, not his fault.
The refusal to pass is still on him no matter how great of a player he was. He just could have been much greater IMHO.
We all can be greater in hindsight!!!! My beef was not with Ewing but with the lack of patience that did not develop a roster around him but by trading picks for aging vets. We did not have shooters around him to open things up. Shaq was a great passer, especially in the championship years!!! Get it, he had a great team around him and he was great. Hakeem was a better player and out west had a smoother ride to the playoffs in the window that produced two chips. Ewing was over worked and did not report some of his injuries which is warrior like, but also selfish at the same time. The finger roll was because he played hurt.
how's that?
no lift.....
This. I was 12 at the time and was well aware of this despite opening the papers to see the media rip our ultimate warrior

Most rookies have bad WS48 and other advanced stats. I remember once when I looked at a lot of data, I estimated the average rookie WS48 was .060. KP and Towns are off the charts for rookie production.

Agree .Im a Melo fan, I appreciate the fact that he has tried to make it work here without a supporting cast until now and is generally a good teammate without the diva act of some other stars . He has an ego and his game isnt complete but the shot selection of most perimeter scorers can be questioned especially if the team is not that successful. He does take one or two low percentage shots a game that are unnecessary that make me cringe and negatively affects fan perception of him as a selfish chucker but his positives outweigh the bad. Glad he has a few running mates to take off some of the load

LOVED EWING! It was more about the team around him than Ewing hisself. KP is a rare talent!!! Totally different player who may be perfect for this era! A 7'er who can move like a much smaller player but also has the skill and shooting range of a Dirk with a touch of Anthony Davis hustle and D. I'm just ecstatic that we got a player of this caliber from the draft!!!
