Really good stuff.

A couple tidbits... kind of sheds some light on Melo's shock at the draft when Mill's said he was high on the Knicks wish list.

I like the path we are taking now. Im still a big believer in Grant as a future piece. I like the culture we have and I think we will churn out some good players via old school development. My god could you imagine if we landed Jordan to pair up front with KP? Sigh...

Would've been incredible.

I wonder if Jordan would take that decision back if he could. I've already seen CP3 barking at him on the floor this year.

makes you think that we should have kept tyson (if we knew)

I hated the Tyson trade when it happened. Took me a while to come back around to Phil after that one. But apparently Melo and Tyson had bad blood - I think trading Tyson right before Free Agency as they did might've been a move Phil made to keep Melo around.

Did they? I remember Melo talking about considering going to Dallas to play with Dirk and Tyson when he was an FA.

I think you are right. If I remember correctly Broussard mentioned an alleged rift that was never confirmed by anyone else. I think Lowe cited Broussards rumor with a link to Broussard back around the time of the trade.

All smoke and mirrors. My guess is that they really did not get along and that Melo to dallas talk was just to cover it up.

Did Melo even meet with Dallas? I believe he did but it was very quick and not much was made of it other than Melo enjoying being wine & dined by billionaire Mark Cuban.

Melo's entire free agency campaign was a huge ego boost for him, his agent & the rest of Melo Enterprises which was confirmed by that nauseating Carmelo Anthony free agency documentary MSG was forced to air by Melo Inc. in the midst of a long losing his streak and low point of our 17win season last year.

He was never leaving the Knicks max money on the table to play with Kobe & Dirk or take a significant $8mil per year pay cut to help Chicago become a top contender with Noah & Butler. I wonder how much interest these teams even had in Melo being that he was breaking down and would've been a weaklink defensively. Certainly didn't believe Chicago or Dallas had any interest. Thibbs & Carlisle? Was kobe going to share shot attempts. I think they were just doing Melo Enterprises a favor

Really? It is documented that they met for 3 hours but the Mavs didn't have enough cap space. Apparently the dallas news was in on the ruse too.
The Mavericks met with Anthony for about three hours Wednesday evening. This came after he’d spent more than four hours with the Houston Rockets earlier in the day.

Just as they did with the Dwight Howard pursuit last summer and the less-than-full-court press they put on Deron Williams in 2012, the Mavericks elected to keep all details of their meeting with Anthony hush-hush.

They met at an undisclosed location and did not advertise any bullet points from the meeting that started around 5 p.m. and went well into the evening.

The Mavs tend to go all out when they really want someone. It's possible they were just gauging his interest. I don't think the Mavs were ever listed as being high on Melo's list. Melo wanted the Knicks, Bulls, with the Rockets a sort of distant third. I think even the Lakers were ahead of the Mavs.

I mean, watching the Knicks, you could see the apathy and bad feelings developing between Tyson and Melo. Tyson would point his finger at Melo a lot and get really frustrated on defense. Phil mentioned that as a reason he had to get rid of him.

Tyson was my favorite Knick, but it did make sense that he had to go. Knicks needed a fresh start. RLopez isn't having a great season, but he's still averaging more ppg and more blocks than Tyson - and it's been well noted that RLopez doesn't pad his own rebounding stats, but boxes out for Melo and KP to clean the boards. And he's 6 years younger than Tyson.

The four-man package of Ty Lawson (sunk cost on an expiring deal), Patrick Beverley (a perfect triangle point guard!), Terrence Jones, and Trevor Ariza matches the combined salaries of Melo and Jose Calderon almost exactly -- a key bit of math synergy, since Houston is hard-capped. Toss in a Rockets pick, and you have the kind of mega-deal that makes both sides a little anxious.

Make it happen!

Between Melo's salary and No Trade Clause, he is a more likely candidate for the Amnesty provision then as a trade chip. This would also coincide with the 'patience' approach. If we spend our entire cap in 2016 improving the roster, we could then free up cap space again in 2017 by amnestying Melo. The 2017 FA class also looks a little deeper and we could build around KP, until then it is still Melo's team and personal stats will feed Melo's ball hogging ego.

amnesty Melo... I have really heard it all here.

33 y.o. Melo with 2 years left on his contract, or 1 year till he can opt out. It's going to be hard to trade aging max salary Melo with the looming opt out. What do you really get back, and would he waive his no trade clause to go to a competitive team that guts it's roster to get him...basically another rebuild. If you want to build around KP, you have to amnesty Melo.

No... you dont

So you are saying that we will be a contender in the Melo era? (trying to have a conversation, not an argument here)

Good luck with that

Yeah. Amnestying Melo is always a good conversation starter.

I guess the trade melo now with the no trade clause is running out of gas. Next up, Waive Melo!

Don't think even Dolan would eat that much chunk of 124m. He's untradeable and unwaivable due to his contract size. That and the fact he's playing the worst offensive ball of his career, doesn't help matters, never mind the No Trade Clause. Would have to convince Melo to waive it to help out his boy Dwight and Chef Harden in H-Town. Seems like the best suitor at the moment for him if they can take back Hose-A.

I've said this before and I will say it again. It's not a bad thing to have two stars. There will be a night soon where KP struggles and Melo goes off for 30pts. The team has balance and that is a very good thing.

we saw it last night, we really did.

They are just getting started. Watching KP's passing last night was really impressive. This team is going to get better as games go on. Grant looked better also. Galloway's slump is painful, but now Grant has taken over the role of hitting every shot he makes so OK

Seraphin is also looking really good. Bouncy even. Im really coming around on him

wow! he is so damn good.

Melo is a smart player (agreed) yet why does he do so many dumb things like refuse to pass out of the double team in the 4th quarter .... FINALLY!

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I'm hoping that the emergence of KP will lead to us seeing Olympic Melo. He won't have to try and be the lead player anymore and could just start playing more like he does on the Olympic Team. More catch and shoot and less pounding the air out of the ball. It seems that at least in some capacity the Knicks are trying to develop KP and Melo at C and PF. It's just the beginning so I can imagine things getting better as they play together and develop more chemistry and figure out the most effective plays with each other.

don't see that happening unless they get an olympic guard.
