That is a pretty judgmental statement considering Lin was the high of my time as a Knick (and many a Knick fan) since the Ewing years. Even during the Ewing years, going deep into the playoffs, I NEVER experienced the nonstop excitement like I did with Lin. It was truly like a Cinderella experience. I don't think sometime like that happens again (to a "nobody" player.)

We F'd that up. We didn't communicate to him during that time and it really looked like we didn't want him back, even without the poison pill.

Sometimes people just play well in NY (or not) and I have a feeling his miracle run would have continued (if health allowed) because he embraced the city, they embraced him and he rose up here.

Hype, LOL, you got some bad memory bro.

I noticed a lot of posters have a bad memory of Linsanity. I'd love to go back to their posts or thoughts during that once in a lifetime stretch.

This is exactly why threads like this are utter garbage. I think its disgusting how insecure some Knick fans are. To the point that they start trouble with other diehard fans with bait threads like this one. Is it really necessary to fight all the time when we are all Knick fans? I am pleading that you people learn to be more accepting of others viewpoints. You don't have to agree. Make your points. This is a discussion forum not Kim Kardasians Twitter account for crying out loud

How do you manage your own hypocrisy? In the other thread you are praising a list of posters for being true to UK and not stirrng up st1t with other posters.....and here you are continually trashing the OP on a personal level simply because you don't agree with tenet of the Thread. LOL.

Lin was great for a couple of months and we all loved it. Lin has not lived up to performing to the contract he signed in Houston, had to be dumped (traded with a first round pick) to LA and has since signed a miniscule deal by NBA standards to play in Charlotte. $2 mil per year based on Linsanity and the Houston contract is now considered "bust" territory.

You're asking him to explain how Lin being a fluke in NY is changed by anything else?

If you honestly think what amounted to 15 minutes of fame for a bad NBA backup PG needs to be explained to you, there is no hope.

And no one's approving racism, guns. I'm just intrigued by your misty-eyed love for this guy who has turned out to be nothing like the fluke he was. And I enjoyed Linsanity as much as anyone else. Did you shell out $300 for Bauerfeind Lin knee brace? I don't think so.

It was a brief shining moment. Like when Ray Felton was good. And Landry Fields hit that one jumpshot. Do you miss those days too? <--see, this is about basketball.

Best days since the ECF? Give me a break.

I was against signing Lin to the contract Houston crafted, though who am I to begrudge Lin his gold, BUT if you look back a few years- you will find that two Knicks on that team broke the sacred rule about publicly commenting on another player's contract. One very prominent player on the Knicks called the contract "ridiculous," and another said if the Knicks signed Lin to this contract it would cause trouble in the locker room because "some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

These comments were made during the process, by the way- at a time when the team was debating whether to sign Lin.

You can make a case that Lin made a career mistake by leaving a team with a coach who desperately needed someone like him on the team, and might have crafted him into a better player than he has become.

I never thought he would be a good fit with a player like Harden. He had to agree to sign the contract, though, and must have realized what Houston was doing and what the Knicks were not going to do.

Would he have done better to reject the Houston offer and play for a team where he might have had more value? We will never know.

Have to ask, did you watch the summer league game where Melo was interviewed in the team usa locker room and reacted to the amount of the contract? In context it wasn't what it has been made out to be in my opinion and Alan Hahn had a nice commentary on it during the game. Just curious because I haven't encountered anyone upset by those comments that was watching that game.

I made this response because the OP has some major issues with certain subjects and I always like to take shots at hypocrites.

I did not start a Lin thread.

Linsanity still seems to be a bone of contention for many, it would seem. You can even make a case that the MDA experiment ended with Lin's injury. I'm sure that I could find other things to bring up if I wanted to.

Did not want to mention specific names...but it was obvious, I suppose
Googled and got this: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8168386/carmelo-anthony-says-ridiculous-jeremy-lin-deal-new-york-knicks

The unwritten code is that players don't disparage other players and their contract situations, especially guys who play on their team. Their job is to play with whatever teammate their team puts on the floor with them and play with the same level of intensity, even if they are unhappy with certain things that are going on. Express your issues in private if you have to. Best rule of thumb is to ask yourself: What would Jeter say?

It is clear from the comments in the article what message certain players were trying to send to the front office- not sure I needed a Hahn to interpret anything for me.

It was good business sense for the team NOT to sign Lin to that contract...no comments were needed from non-front office "employees."

You absolutely don't need Alan Hahn to interpet it. But ignoring the context would be ignorant in my opinion. The guy was overseas did not know what was happening and approached in a locker room, told the numbers and asked about it. To paint it as an effort to sabotage a guy's career in a Knick uniform is wrong and agenda driven in my opinion. Maybe it suits some that are searching for reasons to not like a player or to find a place to put their anger about Lin leaving but if you saw it live I don't know how you could come away with that impression.

+1 Really, that's all there is to it.

Sheehit, I miss Chris McNealy, but I'm not blaming anyone for him leaving and not making the HOF.

I want to see the Knicks win basketball games.

I want to see the Knicks play real team basketball.

I want to see the Knicks play the game the "right way"

When Jeremy Lin was a Knick, and Melo was off injured, Lin led the team, and they were winning basketball games, they were playing team basketball ( the defense and team effort had as much to do with the wins as Lin) and were playing the "right way"

Right now, and after Lin left and D'Antoni got fired, the team has lost more basketball games than won, they struggled to play team basketball and often simply did not play the game "the right way"

"You can only play the games they put in front of you " - Bill Parcells

"You are what your record says you are..." - Bill Parcells

You can feel anyway you want to about Jeremy Lin. Your opinion, your right to it ( Though you don't seem to give anyone else that courtesy)

But I would hesitate, in my view, about anyone calling themselves a Knicks fan and openly mocking ANY Knicks player who helped and led the team to victories, played true team basketbll and played the game the right way.

Win or lose, the Knicks with Lin, without the artificial restraints of Melo, Leon Rose, CAA, Stephen A Smith and their cronies, would be playing team basketball and playing the right way. Instead, the Knicks have been losing and are still trying to find a way to just play basic team basketball again. Interesting that some folks who call themselves Knicks fans seem to embrace falling two steps back in order to mock a player who helped the team take a step forward.

For whatever limitations Jeremy Lin had or has , real or perceived or fabricated, you never had to worry about him playing the game the right way, buying into the team effort, sacrificing for the team's greater good, acting like a true professional, handling the press with class and composure and putting 150 percent on the floor each night.

Remember when Ruben Sierra had a stint with the Yankees and then left, then complained to the press while on some other team - "Those Yankees, didn't get along with them, all they wanted to do was win"

All they wanted to do was win.

Some folks here scream out about agendas then want to mock a player who actually led the Knicks to victories by playing team basketball and playing the right way?

Total BS..The Knicks went 18-6 after MDA quit...Won 54 games the following season...Woodson left the Knicks with a winning record...

Loved Linsanity but it occurred at the weakest point of the schedule. Knicks minimally go 5-2 at that point with or without Lin. Didn't think Lin would struggle as much as he has post his knick career. Wonder if he could take it back if he wouldn't have gone for the money and stayed in NY.

Linsanity occurred during the perfect storm in the NBA..It was the lockout season when they crammed a lot of games together... I remember us facing a Laker team who played its 5th game in 8 nights and was playing us after a back to back with Boston I believe..Lin scored 38 I believe with a spin drive on Kobe during the game...This board was running with that victory as a ground breaking event...

Didn't Lin put in for a trademark of "LINsanity" all while deciding not to help "his team" in the playoffs because he was only at 80%?

All that text wasted without disproving thread. Again, Jeremy Lin was one of the most over rated hyped players in Knicks History. And yes the one month of
playing over his head caused that to take place. You can not argue
that he was not over rated as the following three
years of his career were played in public and recorded.
Btw, all your made up reasoning of better team play with him would
have some basis if not for the 54 win season that folllowed.

Few people in the history of the world can play basketball as well as Jeremy Lin. Think about the best athlete you ever saw in high school or college and J Lin is 5X better basketball player at a minimum. There are a billion Asians and J Lin is the best Asian guard of all time. Think about it.

Any professional athlete who makes it to that level is extraordinary. We are talking more about the exagerration of a players ability as a result of short term sucess in sports today. Due to the higher demand for markatebility rather than substance. What happened to him was a result of the perfect storm. Injuries led to Knicks having no one to score and he was given the playing time other role players would have never had. And yes he took advantage and had an amazing month. However, this does not take away from what resulted, an ordinary player hyped to be better than he really was. Something Lin himself may have known but didnt mind as it resulted in a lucrative contract. And yes the fact he was Asian was a accomplishment and probably one of the biggest reason he was so overhyped by the media.

you need to develop reading comprehension and analytical skills. this is some pretty shoddy stuff which, given the clown contingent here, is saying a bunch

But Lin and his fans can take solace in the fact that, for one short month back in 2012, the man lived every young basketball player’s dream. Fans cheered his name, wore his jersey with pride, and wanted nothing more but for him to lead the team to glory. It was a short honeymoon, but one that nobody, especially Lin, will ever forget.

Loved Linsanity and really wanted Lin back but his leaving was all about business and getting the most he could off of that run.

you too need to improve your reading comprehension level and analytical skills.

So you would have paid the 15 million for 3rd year that would have meant a luxury tax poison pill in exchange for one month of hype and three year bust?

this was the first chance for the knicks to use melo as a sixth man, a role he was destined to play. when he came back, according to the writer, the knicks lost a half-dozen games and d'antoni resigned. ahhh, yes, the outrageous unfolding of events recaptured quite matter-of-factly.

They won 5 straight and went 18-6 after he resigned. They won 54 games, the atlantic, got second seed in the east, the following year and Melo was an mvp candidate (3rd).

He was going to get his money either way at that point-just didn't know who was going to be paying him. The comment about the contract causing trouble in the locker room was worse than the other one, by the way.

I was probably more upset with Lin, to be honest, although I thought it was strange that the Knicks were not proactive going after him, despite comments by Woodson.

Went back and looked at threads from that time-lots of issues going on, and many of the folks involved don't come out looking too good, and this is especially true about the MDA resignation.

I just figure that when people say foolish things, no matter who they are, they should be called out for it. People want to do that to me...fine- I can live with it.

Just a thought- Wonder why there was so little reaction to the racist title for the video posted by the OP or the comment the OP made in another thread. Both were clearly insensitive and say a lot about the guy who started this thread, but no comments about agendas, or in his case, bigotry.

The continual and tiring issue is that if you are a supporter of something with the Knicks.....you are somehow assumed to also have to take a position on Melo.....then lines are drawn and the personal shots are fired here.

Lin was great for the short time he was with the Knicks. He gave a shot of energy to the Team, Fanbase, Media etc. However here's the thing(s).....

MDA should not be credited IMO as he had Lin on the roster and did not use him until desperately forced to.

Lin played great during his run with the Knicks - but did not play in the Playoffs

Ultimately Lin chose to take the most money offered and play in Houston. This is not a bad thing - but ultimately it was his choice to do so. If I'm an owner of any business, I'm hard pressed to offer a significant amount of money over an extended period based on a small sample size of performance. As it turned out, the correct decision was not to re-sign Lin to the $8 mil contract per year (& $15 mil Balloon Payment in year 3) based on his performance after his brief run with the Knicks.

Not sure you have to be a polarizing Melo Lover or Hater based on how you feel about Lin.....there are too many who try to bring Melo into every single topic.

Walt, Walt , Walt..... You must of really hated my attempt on another thread to figure out what type of person your were to hate "A certain player" so much. My apologies that I was so on, as it clearly may of hit a personal nerve. If you noticed the Title to this thread has no Racial tones to it at all. You can put any name in front of it you want. I also mentioned a few more over hyped players as well. Good try though. Would have expected it from you. The ability to hide half truths with a long drawn out intellectual facade. The video was one of three top Lin fails posted to respond to a poster that talks constant gibberish. There are plenty on there calling him The Ninja Assassin" ,funny, no personal outcry from you, to date, about those? Maybe we can start a post about other famous nick names which Walt will not stand for, "Black Mamba", "The Hick from French Lick", "AK47".

BTW...Great Segway back to your favorite subject. If it has already been established that Lin was the biggest Hype and those that recognized true basketball ability could see through the media hype...then to call it a "Ridiculous Contract" was right on. In case you did not see my previous post, which you probably have as you were up till 2am searching my "other posts", you would have seen that a big key for picking him "the biggest overhyped player in Knicks history" was the ridiculous contract Houston gave him and his performance that followed the next three years. As for saying that a contract would have hurt the locker room. As already established, you did not play pro sports, and you cannot know therefore discount the possible animosity that results when over hyped less talented players are being compensated more than those who deserve it. It does effect the locker room.
