Thats Seraphins game....Thats the energy he will bring. Don't have to worry about that. Phil got the right guy. Even without Rolo, Seraphin can hold his own. The question with him is that he sees himself as a star player. So he tends to look people off and gets tunnel vision, when he has the ball in the paint. But for this team, I think thats needed. We need low post scorers. Players that can get to the rim and score at the rim.

But that block on a 7footer, shooting a running jump hook, was extremely difficult to do, without fouling. Thats all instincts and timing.....I believe we have about 8 guys now thats capable of that type of block / defense against their man.

Rolo
Seraphin
O'quinn
DWill
KP
Than
Admundson
Grant

That fear of getting your shot block will make player hesitant when driving into the paint. And KP at PF will be able to clean up any kind of blocks that were missed, due to pump fakes or dribble drives. I think Seraphin is added insurance to make sure we always have healthy rim protectors and low post scorers. Melo should be happy with this team. It's built for him (or any Durrant type SF/PF star) to succeed.

Phil is building a ready made championship team of above average roll players, that plays team ball.

Just saw an article that said Seraphin chose a 1 yr deal with the Knicks over more lucrative, longer deals. Nice to see free agents choosing the Knicks over other situations.

They might of told him he would be a starter. I wouldn't have a problem with that. Athletic guards to play against Calderon will find Seraphin and Lopez waiting for them in the paint

I'd much rather he doesn't until we see what he can do first for us and not rush them in. Remember, there is a reason why Seraphin hardly ever started a game for the wizards.

Nice lengthy Seraphin highlight clip I came across on youtube. Looking forward to part 2:

Very good pickup. One of the true highlights of our offseason..I wouldn't be surprised if this guy turns out to be one of our better FA acquisitions, maybe the best. Who even knew we could get this guy? How does Washington let him walk out the door on a 1 yr/$2.8mm deal like that and not match?? Question about the room exception we used to get him -- could we have offered a multi-year deal using that exception instead of just 1 year? Would've been nice to have him for more than just 1 season..

Do we have any rights to match at the end of his contract?
I just wonder, if not, was it worth a 1 year rental over losing Shved (who Phil spoke highly of and we would have had his rights on a multi year deal.)

Would Shved have taken 2.8 mil? I think I have read conflicting reports. Also, Shved is out with a back injury right now and appears to be frail. I am not sure about options on Seraphin's deal but it was reported he took less money to get more minutes with the Knicks. I think he is betting on himself with this contract which should benefit the Knicks.

I don't think so--he would've logged only 1 yr of service with us. At least with 2 yrs, early Bird rights could kick in and that would've given us some leverage. I think Seraphin's a good enough player where you consider a deal of more than 1 year if possible -- alas, it's just not how we do things. Again though, I'm looking for someone to confirm that we could've offered a multi-yr deal using the room exception. Not sure if we could've or not..

As for Shved, here's my take on how things went down based on everything that was out there up to his departure: we lowballed this guy with a vet minimum deal right from the start and never came back with a counteroffer above that amount. Shved didn't bolt for Russia right away--seemed to me the guy was standing by patiently waiting to see if the Knicks would up the offer. I think he would've taken the room exception for 1 yr, same as Seraphin. We never offered that amount--if we had and it was rejected, we would've heard about it... I think that would've been a fair offer for a talented versatile guard that played well here for us. Could he stand to get stronger? Sure, absolutely, but I don't think you let this guy get away because Phil thought he was too frail... Based on what honest Phil had to say--sounds like he asked Shved to get stronger during the offseason, he didn't, Phil got pissed and offered no more than a vet min deal...My thing: why not secure him for his talent alone and his ability to handle the triangle, handle NY, and work with him to build up his strength during the season? And I don't look at his current back injury as an "oh, see, told ya so--he's too weak" type of thing. Could've been a fluke thing, who knows...Wish this guy was still a Knick. I enjoyed watching him play. He would've upped the talent and solidified the backcourt to a passable level all by himself. Instead, now we're looking at a bit of a depth problem at both guard spots--something that's hard to believe and a little hard to swallow given that we had around $28mm to spend in FA...I think he should've been more of a priority to bring back.

I don't think so and here's why. I am a big hockey fan and there are a lot of great Russian hockey players. You see a lot of Russian players walk away from playing in America. I don't think everyone appreciates the lifestyle. For example, Ilya Kovalchuck walked away from a $100mm+ contract to return to Russia. You don't see people from other countries going back home. It makes less sense because RUssian basketball is no where near as good as Russian hockey but I don't know... you don't see many great, say, Spanish players wanting to stay in Spain there whole career and Spanish basektball is pretty good

If that was the case, why didn't he bolt for Russia right away?

What's up with some people saying Seraphin takes bad shots? I never got that impression -- he can knock down open mid-range looks and he works hard to get good high % shots in the post. Crashes the glass for put-backs well too...He shot over 51% last year from the field. If this guy continues to give good effort crashing the glass, playing defense, challenging shots, etc., I don't have a problem with him taking shots within the flow. I really like this pickup. Wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be a better player than O'Quinn. I like both players--turned out to be a nice luxury to have both in the mix (even though I really would've liked to have seen us add another productive guard with versatility), but if the situation calls for only 1 of those guys to be on the court at a time to go along with 2 of Melo, Lopez, KP, D-Will etc., it wouldn't surprise me to see Seraphin over O'Quinn at times... There might also be times where those two could work well together out there...We'll see how it goes.
