I didn't know you could even do that but apparently Ty Lawson made his final year of his contract a TEAM OPTION
That is such BS, I understand Lawson wants out of Denver but he shouldn't be put in a position like that, more importantly, it puts pressure on other players in the future

They barely gave up any assets for him in the first place, it was basically a swap of non guaranteed contracts and some bad players stuck in rookie contracts, along with a swap of 2nd round and protected 1st round picks

Koustas Pap is an unguaranteed contract for 5m

Yet players continue to sign with Philly and Houston Rockets, as they constantly sign and dump players in trades

On Lawson, he is struggling probably with issues in his personal life in addition to being heart broken with Mudiay
He has been their engine for many years now and went through a lot of injuries with an undersized roster

Outside of last season, Denver has been a contending team in the West and that is pretty impressive with their injuries/lack of size
However, starting with the MosGoV trade for 2 1st rounders, in addition to selling Affalo for a 1st rounder, the extra picks they have in recent years, and the players that they can continue to trade for assets, they can rebuild rather quickly if everything continues to fall correctly

I like the 3 BIGS in the 3 J's

Jusuf Nurkic
Jovic

Joffrey Lauvergne

I think Mudiay will be TOP TIER PG and like Nikola Radicevic and Will Barton as well
Wilson Chandler signed an extension for 4years at 12m per year

Gallo/Faried could be next in a trade

Randy Foye and Hickson will also likely be traded this year for 2nd rounders at least

Not so high on Erick Green and Garry Harris
Do not believe in Nick Johnson either *despite his low salary, I think he was a negative value player with his size*

Ty Lawson - G - Rockets
Ty Lawson has agreed as condition of the trade to the Rockets to make the final year of his contract non-guaranteed.
The final year of his deal is 2016-17, so that means the Rockets will have the option to keep Lawson on his set contract value. However, if things don't go well, they can essentially cut their losses and not have it affect their salary cap. The reward clearly outweighs the risk for the Rockets.

Not a great decision for him- if he can't kick his issues, then he has likely lost his last ever $13mil pay check

by being a 13m unguaranteed contract and on Houston's roster, it almost instantly becomes an trading chip to match salaries with
Just like Pablo, Koustas Pap, and many of their deals Morey has made in the past

They probably will offer something like

Lawson
Ariza or Brewer/KJ McDaniels
3 1st rounders, maybe another piece like Terrence Jones/Decker
Some 2nd rounders

For

Durant

Whether OKC accepts or not would be another story but Morey will offer something like that for him

Maybe this alone is why phil don't pick up the phone.

Priggy. We all like him. at 38 he is not or should not be a knick going forward. I would imagine he has a situation he might prefer as well.

I don't think rockets have what it takes to make a good trade for Melo.

Moot point now but just curious -- what is it about Lawson that doesn't make him 'a triangle guard'? The fact that he's a couple of inches shorter than your average PG? I dunno man--I think this whole 'ability to see over the defense thing' is overrated. What does that mean exactly? Lawson averaged almost 10 dimes per. He can find open teammates..Outside of the size issue, which I don't see as that big a disadvantage really, he fits all the other criteria -- not a knockdown shooter but he shoots a decent 3-ball, he's fast and can penetrate/get anywhere he wants to go at will, he's a good passer, one of the league leaders in assists in fact. I agree his defense could be a little better but he's hardly a complete liability on D -- dude averaged 1.2 steals per last yr, 1.6 and 1.5 the prior 2 years (good steal numbers in college too). Is he a better defender than Calderon? Upgrade from Jose Calderon in every facet of the game sans 3-pt FG % and he only would've been a 2 yr experiment..

Two DUIs since January makes Lawson a walking time bomb. Better to leave such damaged goods on the doorsteps of another team than to take him in and hope for the best.

UPDATE!

Plus it turns out he has FOUR DUIs, which indicates a serious longer term alcohol issue- 30 days mandated in rehab then being surrounded by the nba lifestyle,I'm not sure if that's a recipe for success. Really the desire for change has to come from the person, not be forced on them. Also, addiction issues do seem to drain the talent from players- especially as they come up to 30. Look at Lawson's increase in injuries and decline in efficiency. Eventually dogging it in practice and not working out or taking care of your health, catches up on you, usually around mid to late 20s
Two DUIs is a red flag. FOUR DUIs is a big Hell No!
Also, I didn't realize he took a video of himself smoking a hookah on draft night saying he was going to Sacramento.

Josh Kroenke detailed the final months of the Ty Lawson's tenure with the Denver Nuggets in an interview with Marc J. Spears.

Kroenke said he had repeated conversations with Lawson about his “life struggles,” adding that Lawson often said he would attempt to fix his issues but he could “never fully shake them.”

“He always had an affinity for burning the candle at both ends,” Kroenke said. “We want to give our players freedom to be young guys as well. We’re not going to be drill sergeants. But we want our guys to be able to handle their personal lives on their own.

“Ty … there were times when he was better than others. But the problems have been there for several years, going back to when we were having a lot of on-court success. I don’t want to go back too far. There were just a lot of times where you were at practice and you just know. You could smell it. You know there is probably deeper issues than he would probably let on.”

Lawson returned from the All-Star break late after spending time in Las Vegas and Kroenke hasn't spoken with him much since.

“I love Ty and will always love Ty, but once I saw him going down this dark path, we knew that we probably were going to end up in a situation where we were dumping him,” Kroenke said. “It creates a weird dynamic.”

Lawson now gets to join the Houston Rockets in a great situation.

“[The Nuggets] understood what was best for Ty,” Lawson’s agent Happy Walters told Yahoo Sports via text. “They actually care, and it’s rare for owners and GMs to put players’ well-being first.”

So he's been turning up to practice drunk for years- this isn't going to be fixed after 30 days in rehab. I always think this is where nba teams are irresponsible- I get that they just want to win, but I agree with what Vin Baker said a few weeks ago- Ty Lawson needs to forget about basketball for now and just focus on his life and health.

That is pretty alarming. Hopefully he gets help. I think I read somewhere that Houston is going to try and have John Lucas work with him.
