Getting used to the speed should not be confused with not having speed, they are two different things.
I don't doubt that Russel has talent, I just think it is going to take him a while, if it is even possible, to become a much better athlete. Genetics might be more a factor than work there.

Russell will adjust but understand, this isn't the NBA yet, the talent level just went up is all. I don't understand why Russell is having so many problems. In his defense, Stephen Curry shot horrendous the whole summer league and then found his shot in the regular season, but he was getting open looks in summer league - Russell is having problems there. (And that is saying a lot because he has an interesting "on the way up" release, which really had been throwing defenders off in college - timing and habit is my guess.)

So far my college scouting reports are legit. Ive said this when he was in college.....Russell is a tweener.....hes not a PG....hes an undersized SG who can pass.......thats different from Grant whos a floor general PG. I know this because im in the Russell catergory......im a great passer....sometimes better than most PG.....but im not a PG.

Russell is the type of player that needs the ball....it will be interesting to see how he plays off the ball while kobe domonates the ball. LA might be having second thoughts picking him so high. But Grant is also 3 yrs older.....Russell will be better than Grant is now when Russell is 3yrs older. Or it could click in his 1st yr mid season after hanging with kobe.

Well, this is really interesting as he was thought to be one of the best passers (with incredible vision) in College. Call him an undersized SG sure, but if he has great vision and can pass great, isn't that a PG? Not to disagree with you, but I think Kobe is where Melo will be. He needs to take a back seat and fill a role, not try to be a star at everyone's expense.

I don't think they make Russell into a SG, with his vision and passing it (and their more open offense), it seems self defeating.

Yeah, Russell may be better in a few years, but that is a "maybe" and not a "will". He can flop just as anyone can. He is overflowing with talent, but so were quite a few guys coming into the league but the lack of athleticism killed their careers, just couldn't overcome it.

Russel is 6 5 right? Isn't that bang on average height for a shooting guard?

KP is 7'3.....isnt that more than enough for a center?

Height doesnt dictate position.

A good passer doesnt make you a PG. It just means your a good passer. Theres more to the PG position than just passing. Confining Russell to one position is a disservice. He needs to be the focal point in order to see his true value. Thats not going to happen with kobe on the team. The question is will kobe hurt or help his rookie development? Same with melo and KP.

That is not my point. Some one said that Russel was undersized for a SG.

I like the way Grant push the ball in transistion while having great court vision. Weve had guards like gallo and shump who can push the ball....but doesnt see the floor......Then you have guards like Russell who doesnt have that speed in transistion to push the ball....but has great vision.

Grant is a combination of both. Him and Mudiay should have similar impacts to their teams. The difference is grant can shoot. He can also defend the 1&2. Its hard to find a flaw in Grants game which is a great sign. His only issue is mental focus. When to pass and when to look for his shot.

But I said "if he has great vision and can pass great" and so my question is, what else does he need to be a PG? He has more than enough height, he can shoot great (in college) but IS NOT a good defender. So what am I missing. I am being honest here, why is he a SG and not PG? I can see with his height he can be a combo guard of course and I'm not trying to confine him.

No argument about Kobe, except to say that he doesn't bring the ball up does he? Yeah though, having ball dominant guys like him really does mess up an offense (especially if there isn't a Shack and Gasol to go along with him. You just have guys standing around and we know that.)

this conversation is going no where, phil clearly stated he was not in search of a traditional pg, but more of a lead guard. That fact that he penetrates at will should be music to any knick fans ears. we haven't had a pg that did that since lin, and that was for 6 wks.
