We had under 3m to spend, so the trade puts us OVER the CAPRegardless, we would be in position to have the FULL MLE at under the 6m
I do not believe we can have BOTH the Bi Annual Exemption aka LLE to use and The FULL MLE of about 6m and raises that could be divided as we wish
It is one or the other
We may have some trade exemptions left to use, as some exemptions expire 1year from the date they were used before they expire, so from the Iman/JR Smith and Pablo's exemptions could be utilized, with JR's exemption being the highest and then Iman Shumperts, though not sure if we used any of these for Kyle O Quin..
I hope we can trade for James Johnson and his 2.5m expiring, the final of his 2year deal, who would elevate our DEFENSE as he can defend multiple positions
you keep saying the Knicks have the full MLE at just under $6M, I don't think that's right. Care to explain?
Knicks only have the Room Exception of $2.8 mil and Vet Min contracts.
That is what Berman is reporting, I guess it depends on the 2m (that the cap is suppose to be over than anticipated)
I guess we will know when the official numbers are out for contracts, regardless, there will be loopholes of going over the cap in order to have the FULL MLE
Prior to the trade for O Quin and after the signing of Derrick Williams it was reported that there was UNDER 3m of cap space, and the contract of Kyle O Quin should put us over that...
Not sure if we can offer a contract for Jason Smith of what he made last season with raises, on top of that, there is Cole Aldrich's early bird rights to offer him a raise just like JR Smith got with his 3year deal and player option after our 54 game win season
On top of that we have trade exemptions that we could use that expire within a year from our trades last season from JR Smith, Iman Shumpert, Pablo, and even Travis Wear...
So we have loopholes that we could use if we wanted to go over the cap regardless, on top of making trades with the bird rights/early bird rights of
Sign and trades, along with other players on contract
Cole Aldrich
AB
Acey
150% rule
Also since no moves are actually made, and in theory just agreed to, it could be that we are looking to use our cap space before actually doing the trade, which is more likely, of which is about 3m or under as reported
So we could use that cap space first with the cap holds and then choose to use the trade to go over the cap
Then we could use the LLE or Bi Annual Exemption of right under 3m or THE 6m MLE
In which we could use only 1 of the 2 exemptions....
So I believe we have about 3m in cap space and the 6m MLE to use
