I'm hoping the deal is for the cap room exception. Williams is a tweener and still a project but maybe they feel he can improve with a specific role in the triangle or as an interchangeable Forward with Melo and KP between the 3/4

This is a case where you can take a guy that has talent but may not have been able to put it all together yet. You put him in your system and see if you can get him right with a clear role. You coach him up and work on his flaws and things that may have held him back from contributing. The same way they took a flyer on Shved and he looked a lot better in the role we gave him. Some players have the talent but perhaps not the clear vision of how they can succeed at this level. You give them a better understanding of their role and suddenly things can click for them.

i definitely agree. i wouldnt mind signing him (for pennies) and see what he can do. i'm not expecting much except for a few bad fouls and nice dunks. if he exceeds my expectations then great. its just sad that we need ALOT more but we're not evaluating scrubs for roles. but baby steps first i guess

With some young players you have to look beyond what they've done so far. Sometimes it's circumstances that mess up a players head and they look far worse than they should. It's not easy but when you do some research you can find those players throughout the league. It's not like it never happens that players suddenly find their niche and play closer to their potential. It happens all the time. When you're in our situation you have to be open to this approach.

agreed. beggers cant be choosers. its just sad that were the beggers

Seriously she will people learn. So as of now DW's TS isn't great. Does that mean we should try to sign him? Will you be happy signing of at ever bum is left like Kendrick Perkins? I would sign Perkins for the vet min though. We need Someone to show KP & DW the ropes

^^^Perkins for the vet minimum would be a great signing. The guy is known as a leader. I also hope the Knicks somehow get Caron Butler. He probably gets signed for a bit more than the minimum.

I would like Caron. He knows the Triangle and can shoot still.

Perkins would be a horrible signing..a waste of cap space..dude cant even catch the ball in the post let alone score from there. And he's plodding even more then before...no thanks...

The nes NBA game for the most part is position-less and filled with tweeners. GS front line are tweeners..

Yeah, but tweeners who defend on GSW, at least. Never got that vibe from Derrick Williams.

Apparently the Knicks are focusing on Derrick Williams over Brewer. Brewer got more than the Knicks even had available in cap room.

This will end up as a demarre Caroll like resurgance in game. We don't have a player like Williams and he can really add something to this team

Yeah, if Fisher doesn't break him. If you watched the post game interview with Fish, he said that Williams wasn't where he was supposed to be on the floor in the system. Read into that what you like but some players just need to play on instinct. They can't be out there thinking their way through the game, they just have to find space, find the ball and react.

Briggs might have called it once again. He kind of reminds of Marcus Camby back in 1999 when we were bringing him off the bench and he found his role with us as an energy player. I hope Williams keeps this up.

I had hopes for him. You can see where this offense created cuts and space for guys like Lou Amundsen and Lance Thomas last year. With slightly better guards, far better bigs and Melo back in the fold, Derrick Williams should be able to find a lot of seams and do some damage.

Not sure he's a long-term keeper - he may just get himself a large raise from some other team - but I think he'll put up some numbers this year.

Maybe be our JR type guy.

Though I don't think he can create his own shot, he can feast within the concept of this offense.

These are the things we were hoping to see from Phil and the Tri. If Williams pans out then agents will take notice and offer players up to Phil that may be able to save there careers within the tri. Could land a bunch of good value guys down the road. Would have preferred a team option instead of player option for yr 2 but hopefully it all works out to our advantage.

DWill isn't a guard but he's got a few ball skills. Mostly it's his off ball movement and slashing ability. His teammates will get more chemistry with him and look for him more as a finisher. This is exactly what I expected he could do if he bought in.

I could see what Phil was aiming for with DWill's ability to attack the basket. There are so many lanes in this offense and prescribed cuts. It's perfect for DWILL. All he has to do is defend and he should be a plus.

Seem like he got a lot of his baskets off of broken plays, but i guess he's more of a instinct player as oppose to set offense. It's up to Fisher to put this guy in the position to utilize his skill set, and not force him to things he's not use to.
