I've kind of held my tongue in regards to Okafor vs. Towns but the more video I watch, the more I become convinced that Ok4 is beginning to become underrated if that is even possible. He just has such an incredible offensive skillset for a 19 year old near 7 footer that we haven't seen in a long time. From a defensive standpoint, I think he is getting dinged for being asked by the Duke coaching staff to stay out of foul trouble and I think he has all of the physical tools to be a very good defender in the NBA.
Know I'm in the minority and I could very well be wrong by a mile, but I would take Okafor over Towns right now. I love the skillset Towns has and think he has the potential to be a great player in this league for sure(could very well see him becoming the best player in this class by a good margin).
It's just difficult for me to justify selecting him over someone I think is more polished right now and at the very same age. If Okafor was years older, I would understand the potential factor but I guess I don't see why Okafor can't get better as well.
I guess that's why I'm on a message board though and not Flip Saunders right now having to make that choice....it's a tough choice to me at least (do you take the guy that has physical tools more correlated to success in today's NBA or the player that is more polished right now at least offensively?).
Agree with you about OK4 becoming underrated. He has a compelling story behind him, and he's loved the game for a long time, from what I've been reading. Everyone seems to forget how good his short game is.
Also believe that he, like Porzingis, must transform his body, but in the exact opposite way.
Anybody ever see a body fat test result for him, expecially recently?
When I look at his body, I see a lot of excess fat at this point, and that could be an issue down the line. Needs to give Porzingis about 15 lbs from his body, and also work out a bit, but could keeping his weight down be a problem for him?
Knicks only have to look at Sweetney and Eddie Curry to see how weight can hurt a game.
OK4 has a much more mature interior game than Towns, but Towns looks like he has been transforming his body, and is the better athlete at this point, although guys who think he will be a 4 are fooling themselves. Does not seem to me that OK4 did as much to lose the weight that I believe is hurting him.
Would really like to find out about that body fat reading.
I would be happy to pick him at 4, though...and who would have thought that was possible a few weeks ago?
Supposedly a big Laker fan, though, and if LA wants a true center, he would be the guy. He'd have to get in better shape to keep up with GS, but can you what he would be doing to GS in the post on the offensive end? Love Mosgov, but his post game is limited. Love Porzingis, but his post game is developing.
He's a good passer, and from the way Phil used Amundson last year, you could see how OK4 would thrive in the Triangle.
EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?
