I'm very worried that many of us are going to be very disappointed after the lottery.

We should do a better job of talking up Russell & Mudiay.

The debate about Okafor & Towns reminds me of another debate about the first Okafor & Dwight Howard.

Yup anything short of winning the lottery will be a disappointment for all of us after enduring this disappointing season.

We are due!

you can add moses malone also... even great power forwards tend to change teams a lot... barkley, webber.. which is sort of telling in the way it is hard to build around them...

I'm talking about the guys who've been on 4-5 teams and often times losing teams.

Cwebb & Barkley bounced around a bit but they were valuable multi-dimension bigs. Hopefully Towns and OK4 can be those kind of high caliber/high value players

well what i was trying to get at was that it's tough to build around a great power forward also... someone who scores inside but someone who can't cover the paint... the talent you can't really pass up but a two way center is a foundation for a lot of different type of personnel...

He's indeed. We saw how far "dominant offensive talent" like Amare got us.

Definitely need 2-way guy

Its all how you put a team together--what the composition is in total. Jahil has INCREDIBLE singular talent on offense that overweight some shortcomings on defense. It's like when you start doing + and - Okafor needs double and triple += for his offensive skills. If we go back and say a guy like Larry Bird or Dirk Nowitski--ah let me pass because they dont play defense the way I like ti to be played. I think you can run an offense through Jahill and it wont be a long waiting pattern. He will be in his prime within 3 years yet will be at or near a stable 20 points scoring pattern(which I believe will go up close to or just above 30 in his prime) in year 1. Its up to the Knicks if they drtaft him to find complimentary players. I mean look at Davis--maybe the best player in the NBA 25-10-3-3?? and they are sitting out of the playoffs again. Its never 1 guy its TEAM. Knicks need baby steps--get a couple of really good players. Start a foundation and then fill it in with complimentary players. I will guarantee this 100% of fans will be happy if we walked away with jahill Okafor--there will not be on person complaining. And hes on 5 star review right now--hes going up against another lottery pick type talent on Friday and they play a 7 footer for 40 minutes. Its a big team Utah--I think fans will get a better respect for Okafor after this game. ALL of these other guys including Towns--man will they have a good game? Towns is just as likely to have 2 fouls in the first 4 minutes as he has production. Its MUCH easier to rebound and block shots if you can go lights out motor. Okafor has to be careful every time he bumps a player. I know this--if Okafor was on Kentucky he wouldve never moved from pick 1 only gained steam.

Phil has proven he is completely unqualified for this job. And Fish is clueless. And Dolan is the boss. Do the math. Stop bullchitting yourselves.

Watching Tyson play in Dallas tells you all you ever need to know about asset management. And that is coming from someone who was pizzed at Tyson for sandbagging the team. But I adjust. I realize the truth. Tyson is a winner. He was playing for aholes. He got out. And we got Calderon for him. This is a completely botched job and mismanaged franchise and Phil is not going to learn quickly enough to salvage his reputation. He'll get his pick. He has his pocket money. But he doesn't know his azz from his elbow when it comes to building a franchise.

Why don't you wait until the draft and free agency and then re-assess the situation instead of throwing a tantrum? Do you think you're better than the Knicks instant gratification mindset of the last 15 years with that statement? You want to push Phil to the curb before he's even had his trial by fire, just like management has destroyed the team for the last decade every time Jimmy Dol cries out "this isn't working!!!!" and pines for a new toy. The best way to evaluate Phil as a GM/President is to let him have his big moment and see if the bird can fly. Until then, all this talk of him being a failure is premature and worthless.

No tantrums were thrown. We are clearly the worst team in the NBA. We clearly have the least talent on our roster in the whole NBA.

Why would I need to throw a tantrum to prove what is completely obvious?

Why would I need to throw a tantrum to prove the Tyson trade was an abomination of asset management?

Why would I need to throw a tantrum to prove Phil Jackson clearly is not a competent GM thus far?

Before you try to throw shade and call someone hysterical, get your ducks in a row. This organization is pathetic. The onus is on those who would state otherwise, not those who state the basic reality of its current suckiness.

Phil has presented plenty to evaluate him upon. It's called Year 1. In Year 1, Phil is a steaming failure. So if you can't defend his year 1 report card, then spare us the silly personal attacks on those who pee on your glowing hopes for the future.

Man Dagger's post is spot on Splat.. this is the very definition of a tantrum. Phil sucks. Phil's a whore. Phil sold out. Anything esle is illogical and I have no skin in the game. How many posts in the same thread saying the same thing before tantrum is a fair word?

Phil has set up the Knicks for the most pivotal offseason possibly ever. What he's doing is NOT the same as the prior GMs and the guy gets his chance just like everyone in the business.

On the Melo factor.. you just get the BPA. I mean there isnt a top 5 pick that plays the same spot as him anyway so its moot, but the goal is a cornerstone player. Hopefully we get lucky. I mean its the draft.. you can do everything right, take the BPA and that guy could be Greg Oden or Brandon Roy.

Phil has said over and over again there are 180 FAs and the Knicks have a blueprint for the style of play they want to employ and the type of team/system they want to have.

Phil is a whore. A whore is someone who sells their flesh for money. Phil sold out. He did what Dolan wants in exchange for a big payday. He gave Dolan his glamour in exchange for money.

No tantrum. He's a whore.

And he's incompetent as a GM.

That's my POV. No hissy fits. That's how I see it. Like it or not.

You know what really kills me, ppl keep saying wait until this summer to see what he does. He has already screwed up everything he's touch, how the hell can you have faith in that. He hasn't done one thing correct.
how could anyone have such blind faith. I could understand if we were battling for 8th seed, but were making horrible history and phil has cheerleaders on this board.

A cult of personality will only take you so far. Phil backed up his kool-aid truck to MSG when he came on board and some are still drinking up.

I actually would be able to call him just a failure if that is all I thought it was. But I lost respect for the man. I believe he acted in bad faith taking this job. And that was only possible because of his own delusions of grandeur.

I said early on he was acting out of hubris. Hubris is what allowed him to convince himself he could talk zen master BS and turn Melo from a ball frog into a prince. That's delusional. Nobody is going to transform Melo. The dossier on him is extensive. But Phil says all kinds of stupid chit. He has not been terribly suave and clever and I have found him to be pretty embarassing in his comportment overall.

He has traveled to how many games? Two? One in L.A., his home. He's old. He's a frigging consultant, not an architect, but he wanted that money and more adulation so he wanted to swallow the Knicks whole and in his fantasy world everything would be transformed because he's the great Phil Jackson.

I like setting up a farm club in town. I think Thanasis will be good. That's pretty much it. The rest of his tenure has fallen into the range of atrocious to so what.

Phil has no business being a GM at his age with the health issues he has. His vanity is massive. His competence is minimal.

Phil's delusions of grandeur culminated in selling his soul to Dolan for a fat retirement fund. He cashed in on his reputation. I find him to be just as crass, self-serving and manipulative as I found Melo to be, hence my descriptions of him will be crass.

No that is a poor excuse. Ok4 can be more willing defensively if he wants to. He has Winslow! Who on Kentucky is as good as Justice Winslow?

Who is going to get you a clutch basket if Towns fouls out?

Guns take my word--if Ok4 was on Kentucky--hed be a #1 lock that wouldnt be touched. I like Towns--in fact a scenario that I see as a nice scenario for the Knicks---Towns Kanter is a credible avenue--meaning it has possibilities of really happening. I think over the next 2 weeks we will see why Ok4 might just deserve that 1 spot. If we get Ok4 is there any possibility that if we give Drya Green a max contract to play the 4 a possibility without merit? Im not sure--I dont think so--I think it has almost no chance of possibility as GS will match any offer--I wouldnt give it a zero but maybe 3/100.

What has Phil done since taking over that would make anything you just wrote true? Seems to me that he's just trying to make deals that will improve the team. He's been as focused on the future as he is on the present. Perhaps more so on the future. Looks like he's been trying to constantly look for younger players who could fit in here.

In addition to these moves Phil has picked up picks for the team since he's been here. He may not have always gotten max value in every move but he is in fact adding assets. So i'm trying to see what you can base such a crass characterization of Phil on from what he's done since coming here. He's added assets and kept his cap space for this summer. Not a perfect job but not horrible either.

And how does that make Phil look good?

How is him getting almost nothing for assets a good look?

How is it that Phil has shown absolutely no sense of how to time a trade for maximum value and he pulls the trigger at the worst possible time and gets very little in return?

How has Jose Calderon worked out?

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Tough to judge Phil yet. he really hasnt done anything other than clear cap space. His real test is this summer. Some moves i have liked however the calderon move turned out to be terrible. I was hoping he would be able to land a first round pick but he only got a couple of secound rounders

It's not tough. You just don't want to. He has done far worse than JUST CLEAR CAP SPACE. The cupboard is barer than when he arrived because he doesn't know how to make deals and he euthanized any asset potential left and he has little to show for it. That is something that can be judged now. Waiting for him to redeem himself doesn't excuse his poor performance thus far.

It would be an even better draft thread if we could just find a way to trade Melo (Chucker, flawed game, etc)

You know in the begining, I actually thought you had too much hate for PHIL, but the fisher hiring was all she wrote for me.

I always like NIX optimistic outlook as well, especially with MDA, but this is by far the worse move dolan has ever made in hiring phil. All i have to do is look at the roster, the standings, not to mention his own admission to such careless use of assets, to realize how much of a loss cause he has been.

The guy was bored and his girl friend got sick and tired of him moping around the house in tie dye pajamas, so he decides to come to new york for 60 mill and complete burry the franchise for years to come. It wasn't bad enough that he broke knicks hearts in our contending years.

I'm sure everyone of us would rather walt frazier as our president

What has Phil done since taking over that would make anything you just wrote true? Seems to me that he's just trying to make deals that will improve the team. He's been as focused on the future as he is on the present. Perhaps more so on the future. Looks like he's been trying to constantly look for younger players who could fit in here.

He's cleared some cap space but used up more. We had more cap room set for this offseason the day he took over than we do have set now.

Yeah, Phil is kind of a joke in my book. As a GM, he is just awful. Clearly, we have the worst GM in the league. That's hard to accomplish, but he did it.

A cow suit barking orders to the staff would be preferable at this point, though I wouldn't wish that fate on our dear Clyde. He has the cushy gig. He should keep that.

The only thing that really matters is how Phil manages to put a team together with the assets he does have. Sure he made some questionable moves, but if you review any GM you will find the same thing. He still has added picks and young prospects in addition to keeping enough cap space to be a major buyer this summer. This should be enough to revamp this rosters top 6 rotation players, which is the most important work he will have to do this summer. That's where teams win in this league. The Hawks managed to bring in 4 of their top 6 rotation players inside of 2 years.

On July 16, 2012, Korver was traded to the Atlanta Hawks for Kirk Hinrich and cash considerations.
On July 10, 2013, Paul Millsap signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks.
On August 3, 2013, Carroll signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
On June 27, 2013, Schröder was selected with the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

It is therefore not a very difficult leap to think that Phil can bring in talent thru the draft and in free agency this summer to revamp this teams top 6 players. IMO we already have Melo, Shved and Galloway as possible rotation players. If you add our draft pick and 2-3 quality Free Agents, this team could have a very competitive top 6-7 man rotation next year. Nothing he's done prevents Phil from getting that done this summer.
