I like him, but it's not like our entire future hinges on him. He's just a back up- this year's whatever the name was of that pg who ended up signing with the jazz and getting waived.

Our problem is playing in a big market- the media over exposes any cheap players we get, so other teams end up punching on them. If gallo played for the sixers no other team would be trying to sign him right now.

With these contract negotiations, the problem is they set a precedent for nepotism with other players - next thing Thomas would be demanding the same deal, as would any future player who plays okay for us in a ten day contract.

He can go elsewhere and not get any guarantee money either.
He can go elsewhere and sit on the bench.
The kid has a chance to get big minutes in NY.
Don't pouch with Phils cap space.
And lets not kid ourselves, Langstons agent might be trying to squeeze Phil for more than he should.
Its also Berman. Might not want to get all pissy about a Berman story.

The Darkhorse here is Philly. They need to add cap hes from there and they need players. Whatever advantage we had was ONLY while we had him There is zero advantage now. I would not be surprised by him leaving--we had our chance within the two weeks he was signed I did say give him a 4 year deal with the first 2 locked in a week ago--at that point WE had leverage. Now its really unkown

If we screw this up, I think I'm one more step to being done with this franchise. Its hard to root for a team that

1. stinks
2. over pays a 30 year old with tons of minutes with a 5 year contract
3. trades all their draft picks away without limits and
4. finds/lucks into talented players and then screws up letting them go elsewhere for stupid reasons.

Feel the same way, and the feeling would be amplified even more if Galloway turned out to be a keeper for another team.

Hopefully we are getting worked up over nothing, and they are just negotiating.

We will see.

They are getting close...
But this may cost us some cap space next year...
Guy have good agent which speaks good about him also.
It all depends if Zen/Fish see him as future point or at least backup.

Yeah someone is feeding Berman news. If they are close that means this is going to get done. Its kind of like having a free late 1st round p-ick and look at the cost of those picks now--very high. So it makes sense to sign him. Also we have the ability to either trade Calderon or waive and stretc his contract if needed which opens up nearly 4mm per year the next 2.

When, and how much, will the cap be going up?

...and at what point (I'm being critical of Phil, not you) do you begin to emphasize the acquisition of value players who you can use in your rotation and be less concerned with building up cap space for players who may, or may not, want to come to your team.

You need cap space for next year, or course, but you also need inexpensive players whose worth on the court is greater than what you pay them.
I've begun to view Galloway as a late 1st in assessing him- I don't think inking him for $1M next year is going to hurt the team, because he has already shown that he has some value to the team.

It would seem, by all indications, that Fisher likes him. To me he looks, at the very least, to be a role player who can help a team.

Hope they don't let him leave.

Hopefully the agreement was amicable.

I would also think he might be a little more relaxed on the court if he knows next year's money is guaranteed. I expect that there would be a lot of pressure on guys whose immediate play on the court might determine their future on a team. (Of course the play of Thomas, Amundson, and Galloway does not really support my theory, as they have all seemed to relish the challenge they were given as starters.)

I do not think we can offer him more than the minimum he could have made ANYWHERE
Especially with teams like Detroit after the loss of Jennings, teams like Philly, who are way under the cap, and basically any team under the cap and/or has exemptions from injury or unused MLE/BAE, or cap space


Any of these teams with the above could sign Galloway in hopes of developing him or even use him as a trade asset while paying him in the range of 1-2m on a multiyear deal with the 1st year fully guaranteed
A team which is now contending like Detroit would easily pay Galloway much more than what the Knick's can give
Let's not forget Galloway isn't exactly young and has never made a paycheck in the range of 9 digits in a year
While we can offer him a contract in the future, it likely wouldn't be this summer, it would likely be the following year AFTER the CBA rises, while Durant is a UFA and the Lockout ends


At this point, with the contract he could get, it is still low risk/high reward, but I think he made a mistake by not trying to get the most he can right now with many teams having interest in him and also could pay him a good amount of money compared to the minimum we could offer this year
