Towns is the type of player that can fit with multiple players and multiple schemes.

If we grabbed Towns in draft - it could allow us to consider a guy like Monroe because Towns can support him defensively with his length and rebounding along with his ability to play off Monroe offensively

Probably the cleanest pick in the draft because of his length, rebounding, defense and all around offensive game.

plus he is only 19 which means he will get stronger and hopefully develop more offense

He is very skilled offensively. You just don't see it in Kentucky because they get their points from the guards on the perimeter. You saw it a few instances today.
Look up Towns playing for St. Joe's Metuchen High School

still it would be tough to pass on okafor if we had the choice even though i like towns

LivingLegend made a great point in the other thread. Towns may be a better fit with Melo since he doesn't command the ball in the post. OK4 does and Melo will not be willing to share shot attempts. He has a brand to keep up

i hope melo doesnt influence any decision. Melo must know that fans will hate him if he refuses to let okafor grow if we happen to get him

The very second we draft Okafor, it would cease to be Melo's team. New York would immediately make the transition to the future and the promise of a big man like Okafor anchoring the team for the next decade. It's just the way things work. Any top 1st rd draft pick we get is going to be the one they rest their hopes in.

I could imagine a strong side trio of Okafor, Melo and Reggie Jackson or Okafor on one block and Melo on the other. It's not really a situation where it shouldn't work. The Triangle is made for 2 post men. You have the Triangle on one side and the Pinch Post on the other. The more talented the SG and SF are the more effective it will be. That's why I was suggesting Danny Green. He could make teams pay for doubling off him. Reggie unlike Jose would be a threat to drive as well as setting up his teammates.

im not asking for melo to stop being a scoring threat because thats his strength but okafor can help him stay fresh and carry the load

You just explained the main reason we need to trade Melo and get some more assets to rebuild with. If we draft okafor or Towns, we would then be on a different course.

Still it sounds alot like when Bernard was here. He got hurt then the Knicks sucked and got the #1 pick and drafted Ewing.

I'm so confused lol. So I guess I explained the best reason why we should keep melo lol

The thing is Melo is a very flawed overpaid player. Not good defensively, struggles playing within a system and breaking down.

Usually you'd love to have an established star to build around. I just don't think you can build around Melo at this stage

This team will not be good with Jose Calderon in any important spot. We need him to have his contract stretched for the cap space. Prigs and Calderon should not be on this club next year.
