I don't care how much $ Amare has--that has zero bearing on any decision after the season to potentially retain him. Obviously he wont be getting more than 4-5 mm from ANY team per year--atleast I think that. For that price its better to retain him while we change over IF we want to try and win. Putting Quincy D league Acy or Travis Wear at PF for 30 minutes would be a disaster area. If we had a good guards and a C like Memphis--the only thing you'd say about Amare is good job.

Whats our record IF we had this

C-Gasol

PF Amare

SF Anthony

SG Lee

PG Conley

6thg man Tony Allen

and then good vets down the end--wed be 14-3 as well. It is not Amare.

I agree. At the price Briggs is mentioning, I'd do it. Someone will give him much more than $3 mil per year though.

Amare will be hobbling again soon. People always forget the inconvenient truths. He is not going to stay healthy for very long. The guy is going to break down as soon as he signs a new contract. It is seriously foolish to give him money to play basketball again. You need a GM suffering from short-term memory loss to give Stat a new contract.

Youre right--I wouldnt give Amare more than 3-4mm maybe 1 year 5mm with team options. But I dont think any other club will either. I think some people are taking his current salary and equating that to his current production. Im not saying that. Amare can help the Knicks in a transitional phase. Since Amare will be cheap so to speak(thats what I believe) we can put all focus on improving the positions of need C and guards. Like I said--add Gasol Conley Lee and Tony Allen to Melo and Amare--and are we 4-15?
Zach Randolph--for his career has averaged more TO's than assists--and not considered a defender at all. In your mind set--hes a stupid player. But when you surround him with quality players and use him what hes good at interior scoring and rebounding--all of a sudden hes a nice player. Zach also has had knee problem galore.

We cant play Amare more than 28-29 minutes but the same goes with melo at 35-36. IF we continue to do this-then we'll be stuck with a 25mm per year gimp. He CANNOT play the whole second half in the 19 game of the year two games after not being able to walk. Same goes with Amare--26-27-28 even 29 minutes---fine with 7-8 games off on the back to back--very similar to Timmy D. This way they stay healthy. If we are pitching to Gasol--having Amare and Melo in place with a top 5 pick--Phil can say hey--we have what Memphis has but you'll be the star in nYC. Amare can give what Zach gives--were going or this guard were drafting this big and we feel real good about it IF you come here. You can call Amare dumb until your red in the face---at 4-5mm per for the Knicks in a transition--its smart. Hes highly productive AND if we had a good C with other quality reinforcements--hed be great"cost effective" player for the PF position for the 2 year transition until 2016 FA.

We wont be able to get another PF in the price range of 4-5mm who will be close to Amare. You get Jason Smiths for that money.

people are alll emotion. Remember its Amare's fault his knees broke down, its Amare's fault Walsh and Dolan paid him would nobody would. It was a gamble and it was a bad bet, but your 100% right Briggs, if we could bring him back cheap its a no brainer. You know he takes care of himself and does whatever he can to stay on the court and he wants to win.

This... take the emotion out of it and this is clear as day. We couldnt even get Wilson Chandler back for $4-$5mm

I dont think anybody blamed amare for his injuries or anything. In fact Stat is a fan favorite around here for the most part. His conract was a disater but tat wasnt his fault. If he took a ve chap cntact i wuld love to ave him even knowing his injury and defensive issues

I think thats going a little overboard. Sure there are those who et frustrated with him but i understand that. I like the guy but i admit his the one of the worst defenders i have ever seen. But again why do you get so upset wat anybody think of Melo or Amare? Everyone has a right to opinion.

You're the most emotionally driven poster here. Almost everything is you lashing out at posters with some cranky BS.

You make crap up all the time. NOBODY BLAMED AMARE FOR BEING INJURED.

But many have blamed the club for signing an uninsurable player nobody else would give that kind of contract to. That's the franchise's fault, not Amare's.

If you even bothered to play fair, you'd see even his harshest critics, myself among them, have complimented him on his diligent conditioning efforts and desire to get back on to the court to contribute.

The issues have been clearly framed by his detractors:

He's a stupid player

He's an ambulance case not worth spending money on again

That's what the objections have been, but you make up garbage and call us emotional?

Why do ypu people want Amar'e back? Is he a relative or something?
Okay, so next year you pay him what you think his skill level will pan out to on the floor....you pay him
whatever a 10 point 6 rebound player is worth. Not good enough - he basically stole 70% of the money get got from that last contract
if you look at it at a dollar/performance level, and I think I am being generous. Just get him out!!

Besides, even if value is debated, don't people want a fresh start? Amare cannot be argued to be a building block of any kind or part of any extended future. You want to rebuild a team? You don't keep around one of the highest profile contract busts in recent memory to remind everyone of the past. You have to clean the slate.

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!

yea it makes zero sense. The Knicks will not bring him back. They have all his medical records. Not even at a discount. Some team will offer him 3yrs $12mil or more and manage his minutes. Like the Spurs did with Mcdyess. They will have to deal with his defensive breakdowns

Resign Amare to 3 years 9mm$ 2 guaranteed
