But this is just getting ridiculous

He beat a little kid with a branch until they bled- the other guy beat his girlfriend unconscious and dragged her out of a lift- if players get suspended for untying shoe laces and smoking weed, then proportionally these two cases are way way worse.

This is happening in white collar industries as well. James Watson, the co-founder of the structure of DNA, was fired from the Cold Spring Laboratory in '07 for making racist remarks; Brendan Eic, CEO of Mozilla, was just fired for making multiple donations to anti-gay agendas; Taylor Palmisano, an aid for Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin, was fired this year for several tweets disparaging Hispanics. The list goes on and on. The reality is that no one wants to be associated with someone that's racist or can be construed as having racist tendencies because it's bad for business. The only real major exemption is conservative media, which needs it to maintain its homogeneous, OLDER base. But any real enterprise with aspirations for a future won't ever risk being cast in that light for financial reasons.

To be fair, Eich was forced to resign from the Mozilla Foundation, stemming from protest from other people within Mozilla because of the organization's self-stated commitment to inclusion.

Beat with a switch until he bled: wow. That's some old school "spare the rod" stuff. Something you'd hear people casually claim they want to see more of when they see a kid throwing a tantrum in Walmart, or the topic of a "kids these days" rant or a stand-up joke. I got spanked/popped as a kid, which may be frowned on by parts of our society today. But this definitely seems to cross the line into child abuse, which is a type of domestic violence.

I'll leave it to the legal system to sort out as the appropriate arena, and hope for the best for his family, same as Rice. As for what the NFL should do in either case, I can't say. And I'm of two minds regarding the media reaction. I think that type of discipling is lazy and brutal and its important to highlight this violence to the general public to persuade it to not make these same mistakes. But the media feeding frenzy is its own type of laziness and brutality, too.

The person who pulls the trigger, is not necessarily the one responsible for the kill. Eic resigned but I'm almost certain that he was given an ultimatum: resign and have the opportunity to claim some kind of severance package or have us remove you by force and get no compensation. I think the decision is pretty clear under those circumstances.

And Peterson is a moron and the reason why corporal punishment has been made illegal. People like him have no sense of moderation or nuance and use a heavy handed approach to torture kids instead of using it as an opportunity for them to learn consequences. I was rarely beat as a kid but when I was, I usually deserved it and it was far from sinister. I don't think there is anything wrong with popping a kid every now and again for behaving poorly but what Peterson did crossed a line. I know he hit the kid with a switch but it looks worse than that IMO. He needs psychological help.

...he was probably thinking that he won't be receiving any endorsement dollars this year (due to the injury) and therefore had nothing to lose. What's so objectionable about what he said? Are you suggesting that women should be allowed to perpetuate violence against men, without ever having to deal with the consequences of it? Again, Ray Rice was wrong for what he did and should've been prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But men that get jammed up on domestic violence charges are not all monsters and women who are "victims" of (domestic) violence are not all saints. Case and point...

He said it in reference to a situation where a girl was knocked out and dragged unconscious through a hotel lobby. Not sure that there is anyway to see it as anything but highly objectionable. Why he sees the need to put his views on it on twitter seems like minimally extremely poor judgement.

...he said it in reference to a situation that has been co-opted by others who want to establish a narrative. Janay Rice has already gone on record re-affirming that and the fact that she doesn't want her/her families personal life open for public dissection. So in this context, I got no problem with Paul George's tweet because it needed to be received by the public. But I suppose that a man coming out to say "I don't condone hittin women" and that we all should act like adults, is somehow objectionable. He'll get **** for it but he's getting his guaranteed money from the Pacers and won't be endorsing anything as he recovers, so the media can't him.
