He should be able to score like kobe, defend like mutumbo, run like cheater, dunk like jordan, pass like stockton, and lead like a president.Until then he's highly overpaid, selfish, is only here for the money and fame, doesn't care about championships and should come off the bench..
Nobody has said any of this. I would think though that that type of dough, I wouldnt expect scrub type playoff shooting percentages since scoring is his best attribute.
When you are playing 1 on 5 you can't shoot well.
When he played with (healthy) Billups he did well. Melo needs to play with an orchestrator - he is not MJ or Lebron.
Billups and Amare was healthy in game 1. Amare beasted, Melo did nothing but shoot poorly.I agree he isnt MJ or LeBron, thats why his pay should have reflected such.
Even he shouldnt feel comfortable nearly being the highest paid player in the league shooting 43% in the playoffs.
playoff shooting has not been good overall though it was good when paired with the appropriate players so he certainly gets dinged but perhaps there is a touch of an excuse though not an exoneration.
I was not happy that he got such a big payday so I will not defend phil's move though I am not sure that he had much choice, he was not going to let him walk.
Knicks fans need to come to grips with the fact Phil is no fool. He took a VERY LONG time to think about this team and what he could do with it. Phil is normally rather risk averse, so he had to feel confident in the talent of Melo and what he thought he could do with him if he stayed with the team and was the focal point. I think Phil is crazy like a fox. He thinks several steps ahead from what i've seen and so far his plan is going pretty much the way it's supposed to. He got a coach he felt he could mentor and that thinks a lot like he does. He got his star player to re-sign and at the least verbally buy into what he wants to do. He was able to make some changes while still preparing for more in the future.
if Phil could get it done, he'd gut the entire roster and start over, which he will have a chance to do next few offseasons. But keeping things in line with just Melo....Phil wanted Melo to opt in, he wanted to see what melo had the capability of doing in a structured offense before he had to buy full price.
Melo didnt afford Phil that chance and bought nothing but a near max deal at a slight discount.
Phil knows signing him to this deal he's taking a huge risk, if Melo doesnt work out according to plan, Phil cant trade him WITHOUT melo's permission.
But it may never come to that. I'm sure Phil hopes it doesnt, i hope it doesnt either.
You gotta chuckle at Melo's juice here
It makes you softly and slightly doubt Phil
How can a 12yr career loser tell a 13 time champion
To put Phil's mouth where Melo's money is
It should have been the other way around
As you said Phil should have stood by his public request and called Melo's bluff of leaving
Phil caved, which ultimately is a sign of weakness no matter how anyone tries to spin it
Could everything work, possibly but/////
Phil is in a dark ally backed against a wall, with a plastic knife in one hand and the other tied behind his back
Channeling his inner mutant powers hoping they're still active
Melo is in the movies eating popcorn watching this scene unfold
