He's much more defined than probably every athlete(exaggeration).

Athletes carry weight differently and can reshape their body and still weigh the same. People carry weight differently. Looking thinner or being thinner does not mean that you are in better shape. Melo has taken his condition seriously throughout his career and I am sure he is doing things to fit into the role Phisher wants him to be in.

There's quite a few cut/defined players in the NBA...people look at leBron and figure he's a freight train. he isnt that at all.

Melo usually does come into camp in shape which is a basic expectation for any NBA player, but I will say for his role he has to maintain it throuout the season. I cant say melo comes in in prime basketball sahpe though as he isnt truly built as a basketball player

Nobody has said any of this. I would think though that that type of dough, I wouldnt expect scrub type playoff shooting percentages since scoring is his best attribute.

This

Well that's the whole point of what Phil is looking to do with Melo. He wants to get Melo to another level and it starts with having Melo make a change in his approach to the game. Using many of the same skills he already has but in a much more productive way. Phil doesn't want the flow of the entire offense to have to stop in order for Melo to get great looks. He wants those looks to be in the flow of the offense and only have him use his individual skills when nothing else is available. Stick to the offense and trust it and his teammates. That's really his pitch to Melo. He said that Melo approved of this idea and he also liked how the Spurs were playing and agrees that the Knicks need to follow a similar approach.

When you are playing 1 on 5 you can't shoot well.

When he played with (healthy) Billups he did well. Melo needs to play with an orchestrator - he is not MJ or Lebron.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Billups and Amare was healthy in game 1. Amare beasted, Melo did nothing but shoot poorly.

I agree he isnt MJ or LeBron, thats why his pay should have reflected such.

Even he shouldnt feel comfortable nearly being the highest paid player in the league shooting 43% in the playoffs.

Mr. Olympian body builder, get real!

Now if you want to question Lebron juicing go for it, this may be a more logical retort

That's the part I'm referring to.

Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

playoff shooting has not been good overall though it was good when paired with the appropriate players so he certainly gets dinged but perhaps there is a touch of an excuse though not an exoneration.

I was not happy that he got such a big payday so I will not defend phil's move though I am not sure that he had much choice, he was not going to let him walk.

so if this is the case (which is so obvious) why does he get so much heat for always having to create his own shot.

The #1 reason Melo was high on the trade has to be calderon and larkin, we all know if melo is shooting in rhythm, there's no defense on the planet that can stop him.

At the same time, you can't take away his Iso's on the elbow and block, that's his game.he just need to make his move sooner.

Kenny smith broke it down on a telecast last season, he was making a comparison from last season, and the 54 win season. Melo was making a higher pct of shots or the correct pass when he doesn't hold the ball for more then 7 seconds.

His Iso's/posts need to be reduced and his assisted baskets needs to be increased is all he is saying.

Knicks fans need to come to grips with the fact Phil is no fool. He took a VERY LONG time to think about this team and what he could do with it. Phil is normally rather risk averse, so he had to feel confident in the talent of Melo and what he thought he could do with him if he stayed with the team and was the focal point. I think Phil is crazy like a fox. He thinks several steps ahead from what i've seen and so far his plan is going pretty much the way it's supposed to. He got a coach he felt he could mentor and that thinks a lot like he does. He got his star player to re-sign and at the least verbally buy into what he wants to do. He was able to make some changes while still preparing for more in the future.

if Phil could get it done, he'd gut the entire roster and start over, which he will have a chance to do next few offseasons.

But keeping things in line with just Melo....Phil wanted Melo to opt in, he wanted to see what melo had the capability of doing in a structured offense before he had to buy full price.

Melo didnt afford Phil that chance and bought nothing but a near max deal at a slight discount.

Phil knows signing him to this deal he's taking a huge risk, if Melo doesnt work out according to plan, Phil cant trade him WITHOUT melo's permission.

But it may never come to that. I'm sure Phil hopes it doesnt, i hope it doesnt either.

You gotta chuckle at Melo's juice here

It makes you softly and slightly doubt Phil

How can a 12yr career loser tell a 13 time champion

To put Phil's mouth where Melo's money is

It should have been the other way around

As you said Phil should have stood by his public request and called Melo's bluff of leaving

Phil caved, which ultimately is a sign of weakness no matter how anyone tries to spin it

Could everything work, possibly but/////

Phil is in a dark ally backed against a wall, with a plastic knife in one hand and the other tied behind his back

Channeling his inner mutant powers hoping they're still active

Melo is in the movies eating popcorn watching this scene unfold

There's quite a few cut/defined players in the NBA...people look at leBron and figure he's a freight train. he isnt that at all.

Melo usually does come into camp in shape which is a basic expectation for any NBA player, but I will say for his role he has to maintain it throuout the season. I cant say melo comes in in prime basketball sahpe though as he isnt truly built as a basketball player

7 All-NBA teams and a host of other accolades would suggest otherwise.

That means he's missed them 4 times throughout his career

Quite a bit since there are 3 teams

I don't think Phil would gut the entire roster, tho of course many would be gone if he could move them. He really doesn't have to worry since it's gonna happen anyway after this year. This is a free test run with no repercussions. He knows what he has in Melo it's the rest of the players that he's getting a look at this year. Given the cap situation he knows he's gonna have to bring back many of these affordable players.

With Melo, Phil has been here before. He's had to bet on a player with great talent but that felt they had to do it all themselves. I don't think Phil was in doubt or fear being able to convince Melo of the rightness of his way of doing things. Phil knows that he can come in with Rings and stories of how he did this with MJ and Kobe. That's why Phil can be confident in doing this with Melo. He knows how to appeal to the ego of players like Melo. He's gonna show him the way how to win and have fun doing it.

7 All-NBA teams and a host of other accolades would suggest otherwise.

That means he's missed them 4 times throughout his career

Quite a bit since there are 3 teams

Yeah and how many other active players in the league can boast that? Let's also overlook the competition he's had to beat out to do that over the years. It's like ****ting on Alonzo Mourning because he's only had 2 All-NBA appearances.

Don't they already have PED testing? Isn't that how Nick Cathales from the Grizzlies got suspended? Isn't that why Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis were suspended in the past?

Slim Melo? Melo Lite?
