Yeah we should make a statue. Even though im a diehard Knick fan but i really respect a guy like Tim Duncan. He is probably one of the best players i have ever seen besides jordan/lebron and the guy continues to take less. No wonder San Antonio wins for 20 years
Go look up his salary history. Taking less didn't happen until he was 35

dont bother fish, you and i have said this multiple times each and people just ignore it. yeah, duncan took less, only after he made 200million..

you're misrepresenting reality, aka lying.

duncan had won three titles and when he was 26 he earned 12 million dollars the year he won his first of three finals mvps.

again, by the time he earned 22 million in a season he had already won 3 titles and had earned 3 finals mvps. he led his teams to those titles.

meantime your defense of this greedy, me-first never was is truly moronic and pathetic.

what has carmelo done to actually earn the right to receive almost the entire maximum?

NOTHING

Ask Phil Jackson. He wouldn't entertain a sign and trade with the bulls and gave Melo the contract that he signed.

sorry but this is all on melo, unconscionable melo.

all of it.

every last unconscionable cent.

you can try to deflect all you want-- it was dolan, it was walsh, it was jackson-- but melo is the common denominator and has once again taken more than he has ever deserved and hurts the team he plays for in doing so.

it's unconscionable.

just an awful awful situation for the knicks.

Well now we'll get to see if your theory is correct. Can Melo be part of a Team Oriented system and win? Phil has bet it all on Melo being able to fit in his beloved Triangle and thrive. The team will be trained to have the spacing, ball and player movement that is the bedrock of the Triangle and Melo will play the Jordan/Kobe role in that system. It seems Melo is tailor made for that role. It's gonna be very interesting to see develop.

Interesting. Who offered the 5 different contracts in hopes that he would resign and would not entertain sign and trade offers?

After watching McDermott tonight in Summer League action both Phil and Nuggets may have regret, although Harris may be a gem.

Hoping C-Early can be one himself

I think Phil could have exercised due diligence and entertained S&T offers, to peak Anthony's value. What would the harm be knowing Max contract was always the Trump Card?

I think Phil knew the Bulls wouldn't be able to come up with the money to pay Melo unless he took Boozer. He must not have felt what the Knicks would have gotten back in a sign and trade was worth entertaining and if he held firm about Boozer the Knicks would end up with Melo.

Interesting. I don't recall you guys ranting about Amare "unconscionable" when he opted in this past month. How come Amare's move was not unconscionable? Amare has to know that he is not worth $25 mil per season.....why did he not opt out and and restructure his contract to do the honorable thing like Tim Duncan would have....in order to free up space THIS YEAR.

We all see how it works. You guys are obsessed with Melo....when basically 90% of the NBA is negotiating as high of a contract as they can get......and there are other guys playing for the Knicks, taking up significant cap space and NOT contributing on any consistent type of level....who for some reason do not draw any reason/blame from you.

Makes you really look silly.

If Amare opts out, no one is giving him more than around $4 mil this year. You'd be asking him to give up 80% of his salary. No one is suggesting Carmelo should have taken an 80% paycut.

I think the point was, Amare could have made a deal with the Knicks to opt out and then sign a deal with the Knicks that would have saved the team at least some cash. Of course, saving money this year is not really the issue. The key is next summer.

Yeah I got that but you'd have to have blind faith in Dolan's honesty to do that. There's no parallel to Carmelo. He'd be taking a FAR greater risk and greater possible loss than anyone was asking of melo. It's not even close.

Tim Duncan took less money. But lets look at the Spurs roster out side of the big 3.

Splitter - pick #28th by Spurs 2007, signed 3.4mil starting salary(3yrs 11mil 2010), resigned 10mil starting salary(4yrs 36mil 2013)
Leonard - pick #15 by Pacers (acquired by trading George Hill for #15 draft pick)
Mills - signed from D-league 1mil starting salary.
Green - signed from the D-league 94k starting salary, retained for 854k, retained again for 3.5mil starting salary(3yrs 11mil 2011)
Belinelli - signed as a free agent 2.7mil starting salary(2yrs 5.6mil 2013)
Diaw - signed for remainder of the season after being cut by Bobcats in March 2012, resigned 4.5mil starting salary(2yrs 9mil 2012)
Bonner - traded for in 2006, resigned in 2010 for 3mil starting salary(4yrs 13mil)
Joseph - pick #29 by the spurs

Duncan started his savings in 2012. None of the players mentioned were acquired through the savings. But were acquired through drafting well, cheap NBDL pick ups, cheap free agent pick ups at LLE & MLE prices.

Carmelo Anthony's contract doesn't hold the Knicks hostage from drafting well and developing players that fit the triangle. Or finding gems that in the NBDL or cheap free agents that fit the Triangle at LLE & MLE prices. Or small trades of role players who may fit the triangle better. All his contract does is not allow us to sign 2 other max 20mil contracts which isn't realistic anyway.

Completely agree. It allows us to sign 1 max guy which is more realistic, and then be resourcesful in finding talent like the Spurs have and develop the young players we already have. Phil is confident he can built a championship team based on Melo taking a contract which is slightly less than the max and thats what matters. Adding another max player and making smart moves beyond that should be all thats needed.

Melo is good but he is no Tim Duncan. We're need to not only be as resourceful as the Spurs (a daunting enough task) but actually be more resourceful than they were. And we're starting from a weak foundation and in the latter years of Melo's prime.

Well Tim Duncan is the type of player and character that comes along once every 15 yrs.

This line stuck out to me in Hahn's blog this morning.
The Bulls offered Melo the best immediate potential. To go to Chicago, however, he would have had to take a significant pay cut -- almost $10 million less than New York -- unless a sign-and-trade was executed. That, however, was never discussed because Melo never asked for it, which lends credibility to when he said, "my heart never wavered" about leaving New York.

If you can shoot you're gonna dominate SL. He's a great draft pick. I didn't think he was gonna be anything less than that. Bulls wanted Melo cuz he's a guy that can be dominant on a good team. McDermott is not Melo!!! He'll be good for them tho.
