So you don't think Melo should take a discount to stay?

I don't get it. Sounds like some posters would be dissatisfied if he does the smart thing and gives his knicks a discount

Not what I meant at all. I think comparing Melo to Dirk's contract to Melo is a bad comparison. Dirk made over 22 mil last year. He has gotten paid. Taking 12 million less on a deal that has him locked up until he is 40 isn't the same as a guy that just turned 30 taking a 12 million dollar pay cut. The comparison is pretty off. Implying that a guy that is going to get paid 10 mil when he is 39 is giving up money for the team is a bit of a stretch. Dirk made his money. Find another thirty year old max guy that signs for 12 mil less than they could make and I think the op has a point.

so instead of answering my question directly you decide to hide behind and among other posts.

2013-14 Dallas Mavericks NBA $22,721,381
Career (may be incomplete) $204,063,985

these are nowitzki's career earnings. he started out at twenty years old.

2000-01 NBA All-NBA (3rd)
2001-02 NBA All-NBA (2nd)
2002-03 NBA All-NBA (2nd)

2003-04 NBA All-NBA (3rd)
2004-05 NBA All-NBA (1st)
2005-06 NBA All-NBA (1st)
2006-07 NBA All-NBA (1st)

2007-08 NBA All-NBA (2nd)
2008-09 NBA All-NBA (1st)
2009-10 NBA All-NBA (2nd)
2010-11 NBA All-NBA (2nd)

2011-12 NBA All-NBA (3rd)

you see all those 1st and 2nd all-nba awards? at the same age as when melo came to ny nowitzki was pulling down 12.5 million and had already achieved two all-nba second team elections. the year he won the finals MVP he earned 17.25. this past season his RPM was 5th best in the NBA.

after all of his accomplishments, each of the following three seasons after winning he title, he STILL did not earn as much annually as you expect carmelo anthony will.

best of all, and here is the crux of the matter: he agreed to take 16 million less per year on his previous 4-year contract! and this is after having shown that he is the vastly more accomplished player already!

carmelo anthiny has not done SHYTE his entire career by comparison.

in short, your initial <crickets> non-response to my question and then this utter crap response you make above shows that you are frightened of real debate... and a liar.

Papabear Says

What debate?? You lost. Melo is getting paid. Who cares what the Mavericks paid Dirk. You must now prepare for the 2nd coming of Melo. now no racial remarks be clean.

guess you didn't read the post. you do know how to read, don't you? or is one of your grandchildren dumbing it down for you?

Papabear Says

Oh I can read. you said (here you go, carmelo-- read, watch, and learn) Learn what?? So is Melo dumb? This is not about learning. It's about hating as you usually do about Melo. All I'm saying is get used to seeing Melo play for another 5 years or more in a Knicks uniform. I just love it don't you?

i know you didn't read the post goldilocks, and your granddaughter didn't dumb it down for you either. as usual you are writing like you have just inhaled too much turtle wax.

1) learn by a superior player's example and follow what he did to succeed. if you don't then yes you are dumb

2) if it isn't about learning then it has to be about a money grab

3) it isn't about my hating him-- if he ends up taking the max then every true knick fan will hate him

4) i doubt the knicks will hold that much interest for me going forward. what i do look forward to seeing is melo add to his already impressive resume' and rock solid legacy.

Papabear Says

For someone who posts 24 - 7 you probably have a chip on your shoulder. You never played the game? Your example of a superior player makes no sense. Ive seen many players who were superior players but never won a ring.

You need to keep my grand daughter out of this.

1. You say every true fan will hate him if he grabs the money? You are in a world of your own. It is about your hating him.
2. Melo's Legacy will be one of the top 100 players to ever play the game and you can't stand that.
3. You are irrelevant when it come to the Knicks. Melo will be back and everything you say about him won't change a thing.
4. In my career I met many egotistical people like you who think they are smarter than everyone else and have nothing to show for their talents because they think they are better than everyone else. They wound up being losers like you. And when you get so angry the real you comes out. That why you used the race card on Melo. Face it you should not even be commenting about Melo because your comments are irrelevant. Everyone here knows what you are. Mr 24-7 When do you work??
Melo works hard and is the best player on the Knicks and he should get paid the Max. So get use to seeing Melo's face smiling because he is back.

Athletes and sports owners don't live in a logical world. Whats logical about Lebron wanting a max contract which would hurt the Heat in trying to fill out the roster? Whats logical about Morey, noted 'Metrics-guy wanting Melo on his team? Whats logical about offering Gordon Hayward a max contract? Ben Gordon getting the contract he signed? What's logical about Gortat's deal? Etc....

These owners and GMS talk a good game, but when push comes to shove, they shoot themselves in the foot.

I agree that some GM's make desperate illogical moves that's how we ended up in this mess.

Lebron is a tool for taking the max but then again, he was always a narcissistic tool.

Morey wanting Melo actually makes a lot of sense being that they already have key players in place so to overpay for Melo would be the right move as a final piece to a playoff team. And, melo's has become a more efficient player he is no AI.

lebron is a tool, I agree, but one thing is that he took less money before and being the best player in the league for years has never been the highest paid player on his team.... so I can understand why he wants to get paid..

The money is negligible compared to endorsements and legacy. Its all about the "I gottsta gets my money" factor. It does not make sense.

Why does Lebron NEED max money? He will be a rich and famous man forever - max money is all about posturing and ego.

it could be, but again, he is a two time champion, multiple times mvp, he has done it all, now he wants to be the highest paid player on his team... can't fault him for that..... It is not like he has never won and is asking for the max knowing it will hurt his team... It makes sense to me that he finally wants to get paid what he feels he is worth considering what he has accomplished... what he makes off the court is a separate issue...

Why should Lebron take a pay cut while Micky Arison cuts payroll
