CULTURE CHANGE

that's just posturing by Knicks, nothing more.

so you think the knicks will agree to taking on boozer to help facilitate a deal that sends anthony to the bulls?

I think the Knicks are doing their best to up the ante in case that is the scenario

you're right. looks like the knicks are one step closer to parting ways with anthony.

not at all

why aren't they?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

because upping the ante means that jackson is interested in getting the best deal possible for the knicks, not the bulls and not anthony.

bottom line melo will not be offered the max by jackson, and melo is not going to stay in new york when he can get similar money even if it's on a shorter contract to play elsewhere. jackson's job is to WEAKEN the team melo ends up at as much as possible and STRENGTHEN the knicks as much as possible.

Taking boozer puts us in the repeater tax. His 15M will cost us alot and it also means we won't have the full MLE and we lose our best player. Has anyone thought about that?

You don't see it as being prepared for all scenarios. Again, it was reported on espn last night (windhorst) that Jax has already told Melo he would give him the max if that was what it took. But it does seem like being proactive and prepared for whatever comes up is good gm-ing by Phil.

Also, if Chigago amnesty's boozer and we do a S&T, do we get a chunky trade exception?

Phil will likely present Melo with many different scenarios based on how large his contract to stay in ny is. I'm sure one of those scenarios will include the plan and who he will chase if a max contract is agreed upon. My guess is the offer will be close to the max as to significantly beat out the other offers, but with more room to work with in the early years of the contract.

and if Melo takes a legit paycut you can expect a no trade clause as well, which will make a couple around these parts thrilled

I believe you that Windhorst reported that, but I have a really hard time believing Phil said that, especially how he's repeated again and again how melo personally said he would take less. Telling Melo they will pay him the supermax at this stage in negotiations is like showing your hand in poker so everyone knows what you have, it makes no sense. Saying we will pay you the max if it comes to that pretty much guarantees the worst case scenario.

I agree. Windhorst said on espn's free agent special. I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting it. I don't think of Windhorst as a guy that breaks stories. However, going into meetings with other teams knowing your wife doesn't want to move and that you would be losing 50 mil or so certainly would make it harder to just be swept off your feet with what is being presented to you.

Until Phil Jackson himself announces he will offee CA, a max contract, I would speculate it is coming from CAA, as reported who doesn't want CA to take any less $$$ possible.

Like all other agents, they make a % out of Melo's pocket
Winning, being a contender, how his family feels, all have much less weight to these agents, if any at all...

And here is the Bulls response via the media: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/28445671-419/carlos-boozers-time-with-bulls-all-but-over.html#.U7THgfmwLph

A source said Wednesday that Boozer’s departure is a “done deal,” adding that Boozer’s camp already has been informed.

If Melo returns to NY, he has to do it on a salary that allows NY to add a big piece in 2015. I mean, other than experiencing Free Agency for the first time, this tour is supposed to be about studying scenarios where he can join a team with championship aspirations. Phil has a plan and it includes Melo at a shorter deal. If he demands the max from us, he would be negating himself and us of that opportunity again.

Rambis isn't a curve ball but is a nice guy to have as a lead assistant on Fisher's staff.
