He ain't even got color commentary experience.
More experience in the Triangle than Kerr
That is true. But does he have coaching in him. I'm sure Phil knows who might make a splash in coaching based on his interactions with his players.
He is a natural born leader. Kobe and Durant speak very highly of him. Kobe's favorite teammate. Pretty sure he's already talked about coaching when he hangs it up
Durant speaks highly of Scott Brooks and wants Westbrook to keep gunning. Why couldn't Fisher coach himself to have better shot selection. Maybe his weakness as a player makes him a great coach?
I don't understand
Durant lacks credibility because his stamp of approval is suspect and Fisher was not a floor leader or a good player. Sure he made some big shots but overall he is an highly overrated player. Sure he knows how to play the triangle but does he know how to coach it. Is he familiar with analytics, drawing up plays, and etc?
I'm pretty sure Phil Jackson didn't know anything either when he was winning championships with the Knicks 40yrs ago not as a great player but as a garbage man/enforcer/instigator. Same for Riley
Which is why you can be pretty sure he and his championship winning back went and sat on the bench for the Albany Patroons for a few years. Can we stop with the "he played, so that makes him a great coaching candidate" logic? It's stupid and there's more and better examples of it not working than it working.
Its a thought process and we just talking to better exchange ideas as to why it is, or isn't a good idea. Nobody here makes the decision.
Media really seems to take a lot of conjecture into the writing. The whole "Kerr's relationshiip" thing with Jax is pretty obvious because few quality humans with with other choices would work for Dolan if they can live closer to home, have a better roster, and had the leverage to demand big money for longer term!
IM not fretting on losing Kerr or second guessing Phil Jax existence and if his inability to land Kerr speaks about his effectiveness going forward and able to attract/retain talent.
For all we know GS was always Kerr's first choice and Phil Jax boasted his value so Lacob would fall over himself and pay up. Phil had advised Detroit owner last year on many. They never fired Dumars but they did make a bad hire in Cheeks and Signed Smith. That would be on Dumars. Maybe Phil was in on the plan to identify SVG for the duel role and had a strong idea that SVG would land their. We only know how things play out in the Media. SVG to Detroit media wise was never dragged out and seemingly was a very short courtship. Ainge Got Brad Stevens last year similarly.
Is/Was Kerr the only candidate? Is the media correct that Phil was only focused on him and now looks stupid? Was or has there been another plan all along?
Stay tuned.
