Horriific guard play and injuries this year is killing us. Im not blaming woodson or Bargnani who has shown some flashes of being a good player. Not great, but good. Because of his range it allows Melo to play "the 4" and beast. Problem is Melo-Chandler-Barnani-felton have not played too many games to build the chemistry needed for a run.

I don't trust La La encouraging words. If there is a time to rebuild now is not the time to commit to youth. GOtta have picks to do that.

Pretty much in agreement with everything written. I would include poor play/and lack of leadership by Tyson as part of the problem as well. Also, the firing of Grunwald really took away the stability that Woodson had with the organization. Since Grunny has left I would not be surprised by anything the current management/ownership group does.
if you go back a few years ago I would challenge anyone to find someone more against the Melo trade then myself. But like Isiah, Marbury, Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford... the whole list I call what I see and then sit back and watch. I have watched Melo dominate game after game. I have seen his inconsistency as well, and how it has hurt him and the Knicks. That all being said you can use whatever labels you want for him, but one stands out in my mind: Impact player. The closest thing he's had to a second great player to play with was Billups and Iverson. When he was with Iverson and AI put up more shots than Melo, Melo had the best FG% of his career and showed he could play with another star. When he had Billups, Kmart, Nene, JR... a pretty good team they went to the conf finals.

11 years and not one losing season... not one

Yea melo is top 3 lbj, durant, melo, and he's not going anywhere. Melo in my eyes is the best power forward in the league. That's what he has evolved into, he's a big dude, he can rebound big time. Limitless range, can post anyone, he's above average passer, gets to the rim faster then any power forward. there's not one power forward that can stay in front of him. Melo is better on defense as a power forward. With melo at the power forward we can run and get open shots. Melo as a power forward last year got him a scoring title, top in the Atlantic. I like brags but as a center, melo has to be our power forward. Once stat comes back make him our back up center, stat known as a power forward but like melo sf to pf. Stats first year with us was his best and that was at center. I don't think stat will struggle on defense vs opposing centers, he's still quicker. And that baby hook he's turned to this year has been automatic. Line up I want to see a lot of is...stat,melo,shump,thjr,ray. I'd love a upgrade at pg but that's not happening yet.

your right about everything but defense. He has trouble defending the 4. He doesnt get used, but he gets pushed around at times. Remember how David West destroyed him in the post? You live with that... but its an issue you have to consider when building a team around him

The Bulls wouldn't do this move, but if we are thinking about moving Melo, I think a package of Boozer, Gibson and Butler would be as good as we can do. We get two young players to add add with Hardaway that play both ends of the Floor. That would also open up the possibility of trading chandler for a future asset and start compiling young players for when the cap opens up.

owning our pick in next year's draft with Butler, Hardaway, Gibson a potential asset in a chandler deal would a nice start.

Or we could just go with a high energy team for a year of Felton, Shumpert, Butler, Boozer, Chandler with Hardaway, Gibson, Amare off the bench. Would probably be comparable to the Atlanta Hawks and secure a mid tier seed.

Not every elite athlete, with the focus on his productivity, can function in New York. Carmelo Anthony has the rare ability to life his game to any ocassion. We would be crazy not to acquire just two players who can hang with him on the court.... one a guard and the other a 6'10 forward with swag.

He would be crazy to leave 30M on the table in the worlds largest media market.

Win here and you are set for life.

we are winning nothing with him here. history is not on his side, nor is the present situation... unless he asks to be paid 12-13 million a year annually and have someone take over the team and put him in his place.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Knicks would have nothing to do with this... The Bulls would just offer Melo a max contract. Im not talking any trades. Bulls amnesty Boozer and they can offer Melo the max. They might have to move Taj Gibson, but even if they dont I think the #s work, and they can move him... he's good

Yeah i think Rondo would be good, but rather than get rid of every asset for him i would rather give up one or two for Lowry (while unloading Felton's long-term deal), and save some cap space for Green or Parsons. Lowry and Parsons/Green would be better than Rondo and either starting Smith at the 3 or the revolving door of trial and error. Lowry, Hardaway, and Parsons/Green are all players that fit perfectly with Melo, are all on the right side of 30, and can be secondary pieces/borderline all-stars in the right system.

I guess everyone has a different definition of winning. I view him as a winner, being the best player on above .500 teams every year. Just like i consider Ewing, Malone, Stockton, etc as winners. They didn't win titles, but some view winning a title as the only thing that matters, otherwise you aren't a winner. Others are selective and will come up with some crazy formula why Melo isn't and those guys and others are (certain amount of playoff wins, whatever.)

Yup, if you give yourself a chance by getting to the playoffs, you never know what can happen. Just like Dallas. No one said you could build around Dirk either.

Agreed with everything except no one wants anything to do with Felton

We need to trade Tyson for a protected or late 1st round pick and the. Use that to get Lowry or Rubio

Parsons would be great but Id definitely settle for Green. He can play some defense around Melo and can im occasionally carry a team with his shooting and scoring

Then you try to get Asik who makes big money next year from the poison pmbill but would resign for much less. Whatever the market is for a young serviceable big

Not like Tyson who is serviceable and gets a 4yr $60mil bloated deal

Yea which is exactly how I approach building the team around Melo if I was the Knicks. You would need to upgrade the coach if you are going to win in th playoffs though

Huge difference between Carlisle and Woodson

Toronto agreed to take Felton in a deal for Lowry. Dolan nixed it so he didn't have to part ways with another pick to their GM.

I do to know if I believe that. Unless it was the 2018 pick

Can't trade our 2015 pick

We should trade Tyson for a 1st Rd pick to send to Toronto with Shumpert the. It gets done. If someone offers more than at least we tried.

Then we can see if Minnesota is interested in a 1st and/or Shump for Rubio

If not swallow pride and get Lin and asik back here

specious reasoning: recall what walsh said leading up to the trade for carmelo anthony-- "a player is good at one price and not good at another." translation: you can't think about price without also thinking about value. melo was and is overvalued. if you are overvalued then you overrated and if you are overrated then you are not as good as you or your supporters think you are.

the knicks went into win-now mode with this ridiculous trade and ridiculous contract and now the knicks have really no shot at getting to the final four with melo as the main cog to "build around."

i said it back in the days leading up to february 2011 and i'll say it again now: you never, ever, pay players like carmelo anthony max money and you certainly never, ever, trade for players like carmelo anthony. and lastly, if you have already invested in a similarly flawed and overpaid player in amare stoudemire then you certainly never never, ever ever, neverever compound the problem by acquiring carmelo anthony at max oney and in a trade!!!!!!

he needs to accept a drastic paycut or he will continue to be the face of a failed knicks era just as marbury and thomas before him.
